I live in another country where labor taxes are higher than in the Netherlands, and social rights are lower. This is a virtual medium, you don't know with who you talks. So stop exagerating. It is true that since the introduction of the Euro prices all around Europe are much higher. But fuel taxes, on cars, sigarets , alcohol, houses or the VAT are different in each country. This a crisis in the Euro zone (beside in Germany and Scandinavian countries) but its not because of EU

The States are not part of the Union, but still they have huge problems. Human greed did not start with the European Union, its as old as humanity. The only thing about the Euro is that national member states lost their grip on monatery policy, and in situation of crisis before could devaluate their courrencies in order to be competitive again. Today the only policy to reduce deficit is a fiscal one and this is much less popular.
Argentina defaulted in the same basis before.
