Regardless if the HMO is private, it is operating under the direction of the state of Oregon. This is not the HMO's decision, it is the state's because of the contract between the two. Investing their healthcare dollars (rationing) in one person when it would take healthcare dollars from another (considered more viable) , is exactly what Obamacare is proposing.

So, you're not longer an "asset", but rather, a mandatory obligation that must be fulfilled. The state would, essentially, provide that ground for people to walk on. The difference is you have choice -- if the service of one insurance company is unacceptable, you can switch to one of the other 1300 insurance companies. Under a "single payer" system, you're not going anywhere.

For example, Tarceva is a drug approved for only certain types of cancer by the FDA based on many pharmaceutical studies. Is it effective for this woman? Well, this biased news story does not ever reveal her diagnosis!
Please stop to realize many news agencies are simply interested in ratings. And a "crying cancer patient" makes good ratings, not necessarily ACCURATE news.

Regardless if the HMO is private, it is operating under the direction of the state of Oregon. This is not the HMO's decision, it is the state's because of the contract between the two. Investing their healthcare dollars (rationing) in one person when it would take healthcare dollars from another (considered more viable) , is exactly what Obamacare is proposing.

Also, Tarceva is covered by Canada's socialist medical system, can be covered by several Medicare supplements, and there are also reports on the web of other private insurers denying coverage of this drug.

But, the time came when the treatment would be worse than the cure.

If that were the case, you'd think the letter would note that, perhaps? Or that the gentleman interviewed, for the state, would mention that? It isn't as if he wasn't aware of the topic of the interview. (It was hardly a hostile, ambush-style, sit-down and he doesn't bring this up **AT ALL**.)
In other words, we have full story: they don't want to spend the money for the treatment, the end--coming to a country near you, soon, if the President gets his way.

I agree. That's the way it is now with insurance companies. But universal health care would basically provide a cushion for the lower class. So, you're not longer an "asset", but rather, a mandatory obligation that must be fulfilled. The state would, essentially, provide that ground for people to walk on. In many respects, it's like interstate highways.

The difference is you have choice -- if the service of one insurance company is unacceptable, you can switch to one of the other 1300 insurance companies. Under a "single payer" system, you're not going anywhere.

People are all up in huff that Oregon would not pay for this drug even though most insurance companies today would not have paid for this drug either. She can always BUY IT HERSELF, if it is that important to her, even if it means debt.

It is, in all respects, modern day slavery. Conservatives and Republicans would argue it's necessary (could society have begun WITHOUT slavery???). Democrats and liberals would argue it is, nonetheless, immoral. Personally, I think technology and robots make modern slavery obsolete. We don't NEED people working at McDonald's, we could EASILY design robots that do their work twice as fast and efficient. But this is about MONEY, CONTROL, and POWER. Who has it? And who doesn't have it?

It's like providing a floor for people to walk on, so they don't have to walk on dirt. Or, equivalently, providing some kind of BASIS for poor people to use as a springboard. The right-wing doesn't want universal health care, because it would, essentially, get rid of modern slavery (which is the basis of conservatism and the right-wing). Conservatives know that, if the poor were given universal health care that would allow upward mobility of the lower class. Thus, they would lose their power.

You know what? I could build a straw bale and mud cabin for 4 grand, assuming I had the land. If I'm ever so desperate to keep living that I'm willing to shell out that much just for another month in this temporary body, someone needs to go ahead and take me out. If private insurance says no (and their denial rate is lower than some governments. For example, MassCare turned down 23.8% of claims versus about 5% for private insurers), you have alternatives. You can go around them. If you're reliant on the government plan, and then government says no, where can you turn?

Of course its not going to say that (let people die) directly. The government isnt about to openly admit such intentions for obvious reasons. But it does say it in Orwellian terms and bureaucratic legalese. People will be denied much needed life saving/lengthening procedures. Therefore govt will have to let people die, basically because its resources are limited and it wont have the money to pay for anything and everything to save everybody.
