Great shot and nice buck!! We took 5 bucks this year out of the Sled Springs unit and one is a whitetail that almost hit the books! You can check it out in my video. Again great shot and keep the videos coming!
Right on! Good to hear; I love the fact that we have whitetails in Oregon! My buddy shot 29 inch, high 180s class buck in the Owyhee unit this year only about 5 miles from where I shot this deer! I look forward to checking out your vid!
Cool video buddy. The fact that you got it on video and took the time to edit it is cool. Forget all the haters that said you should have passed on it. A good buck is in the eye of the hunter. Keep it up.
how far did you drive to kill a little 2 1/2year old buck? -- Shoudla passed him for a 4 year old! --more meat, bigger rack... (they get 34" wide in there)!
Yes, I probably should have waited, but I only had this one day to hunt and I really needed to put some meat in the freezer. This buck may have only been 2 1/2 years old, but he is very tender; possibly more tender then a 4 year old. Anyways, we'll see what God gives me next year.
@KcinOutdoors -- your comment about 'tender meat'... Tonight I ate shoulder steak from a 5 year old, mule buck, his rack was 34" wide.. he had 225 pounds of meat on him. AND tonight (without tenderizer) I gave some meat to gramma with NO TEETH! and she was able to gum it.... Mule bucks are NOT like black tails.
I shoot BIG mule bucks cause they have lots of 'TENDER' meet. The rack is a bonus! Harvest a trophy, You WONT be disappointed!
Well, thanks for the input jwdundon. I will attempt to hold out for an older one this year. In fact, my family farm in Estacada holds some of the biggest blacktails in the area; maybe the trophy buck is in there somewhere. Did you shoot that 34in wide buck this year off fall Cr. Rd. per chance?
@jwdundon every one always says this kinda stuff. "i gave to my grandma/grandpa and they gummed it ". i doubt it some guy told me he shot a 7 year old 6 point rosevelt elk and it was tender, he also said his grandpa gummed it. if you like killing deer for the rack dont lie and say its cuz they are tender. people will respect you more for killing it for the rack then if you lie. also if it is tender it cause not one hunts them in your back yard alfalfa.
I will try to be polite. I have killed 'my share' of bucks, and my family has as well. I agree IF you kill a BLACK TAIL thats over a forked horn, expect a "JERKY" BUCK. I have been amazed out of the 14+ monsters (mule bucks with a rack of 22+" wide) ALL HAVE BEEN TENDER. as tender as a forked horn. THESE bucks are from the mt jefferson wilderness.
Sure I hunt for racks, but, I pass up monster black tails, eventhough THEY ARE IN MY BACK YARD.
My Dad just missed a 6x6 elk this morning. He is very mad now.We are going again tommorow morning at whatever time.Wish us luck!We achery hunt down in North America. There are some pretty good sized elk and deer and buk down here.
wow nice mule deer what unit where you in good job on the video keep making the great videos that was awsome thanks for the comment on my bucks my blacktail was ok i have killed much bigger one's i will draw the silvies unit next year so i can get anthor mule deer. have a good one good shooting
Ya, I know... I shouldn't have missed the first shot. But, I was so sneeky... and the shot was at such a distance that the buck didn't even know what happened...
