I know it may seem obvious, but I'm somewhat new to this and just hoping to make sure I get things right. There are a number of reasons you could be strumming like that, I've thought maybe you incorporate sixteenth notes at times and it's setting you up for that, but I just wanted to ask so I can be sure. Should I strum like this because it makes it easier to put the emphasis on the proper beats? Thanks for any response I might get, from anyone.

I've been trying to learn this song as best as I can, and I've been working on the chord progression, but your strumming pattern seems different from what you described as the ideal one for a beginner. It seems to me like you're hitting eighth notes on those chords throughout the song, yet you're strumming them all down. I could be mistaken, but if I'm correct, is it simply because you prefer that for this particular song, so you don't need to stick to the beginner outline for strumming?

@Blue2Guitar I find if I just don't play the low E, then you don't have a problem with it. The secret is knowing where you're strumming from. On those chords that don't use the E, but use the A as a root... just start with that (5th) string.
