To Steve 'Fat Git' croft, you did not play this and Bradford was shit, that's not very good, and this was made big by searling at Morecambe.....You played at small venues with no soulies , but the MAJOR VENUES like Morecambe and Notts Palais has over a 1000 in, so please go back under your Yorkshire hole and stay hidden like a crab....
It was me (and Steve Croft) that played it - me at Clifton Hall and both of us at Cleethorpes Winter Gardens. It may have had Mecca spins, but it had no Nighter spins until we played it. Inevitably, Morecambe, Stafford, Bensons etc. came thereafter.
I would love to find this on cd myself Ronnie Dyson was an angel in our mist from the late 70 ;s till his departure into the next world I wish we could see more of his video's grate voice and range tone clear delivery . my GOD bless his soul ..... GnobleB
Can anyone tell me where I can buy this song on CD? It's not on any of Ronnie's official LPs. It apparently came about when he hooked up with the Trammps for a while in the 70s, but it's not on their LPs either. Please, anyone,Help me if you can! I love this song!
You're dead right about the Morecambe sounds. I#d like to add one minute from love Marc Sadane (i think). It was also early plays of Sidney Joe Qualls " I don't do this" wheich eveyone asscoiates with mid/late 80's. What about Randy Brown ""always in the mood" I used to shuffle around in the the little square dancefloor in the middle of the main pier area - then I'd have a couple of whelks at about 4 am...
I forgot how this tune made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. I got into Northern Soul in the 80's, I can't imagine dancing all night anymore, but i have some great memories from those days.
Talking of Stafford , remember the Monster Robin Salter played on his Modern spot "Dont want to see myself " wasnt that Terry Callier ? I was asking Colin Curtis at that time about it and he ,eventually , got a copy for Searling
i only stopped in the modern room for an hour or so, then i was back in the oldies room, as my heart is there really, as that is what got me started at the young age of 14
good oldie stuff there : Dave Evison use to mix it up great upstairs |: Gil Scott Heron , Mel Britt , the O'Jays "Identify yourself". Always remember the "Bib Man" at Stafford-he use to wear Dungeres - couple of years before the Perry Boys wore them (like me )
great sound : got a few plays at Blackpool when it was released (so Colin Curtis says !!) but I always remember it being huge at Morecambe Pier in 84/85
great times ; remember the other big cuts around 85 which all got British released, were : James Cobbin and Prime Cut -Caught up in the Middle ; Clarence Carter - Messing with my mind ; Colors -Am I gonna be the One !!! ; and Mel Carter -Love Test .. All monsters at the Pier in 85/86
yes of course but by 85 Staffords modern stuff was fading a bit (apart from Robin Salters efforts) . The 60s newies were becoming the thing Stafford was known for . I went to Stafford from start to finish , by mid 85 attendances there had declined whilst Morecambes were huge and getting bigger .Two great venues though !!
