Ian seems to have a frog in his throat. The band and overall sound is... not up to Mott's old standards. Kind of tired, really, although they pick it up in the end to their credit.
re form mott the hoople now ian hunter and get that overend watts back on the creamy bass guitar, no arial bendings, he really wasnt good was he ... punkle kevin ..
Mick Ralphs has always underplayed the Guitar Hero bit - too much, maybe. He is the anti-Yngwie! Mick Ronson was similar, but Luther/Ariel - now there's an extrovert. :)
yes. More from Mick woulda been great, but Andy Yorke did a great job. was there that night, great gig, bought back memories from 69-74. The following year he opened with hymn for the dudes. how awesome was that. I had no vocal chords after!!
Incredible, just incredible to think that here is a guy nearly 68 years old, still rockin' hard. And think of this...any other old rockers have long since stopped making relevant, dynamic CD's and are simply touring by trading on past golories. This guy has just released the best solo album of his career and the Album of 2007. He's as insightful, exciting and relevant as any of today's so-called "young dudes".
To quote Pete Frame's Rock Family Tree - (sic)"on any given night, the best Rock'n Roll band i the world". All I know is they could hit like a metal band but brought that fun and stink like a garage outfit. Ian Hunter wrote like he had been rocking in the year 1492 - confident, and winking at you the whole time, cause you were in on the joke too....

Ian Hunter is a freaking legend! Seeing him and Ralpher together again is awesome. Too bad those two can't get Overend, Verden, and Buffin all together for just one more show. I've been lucky to see MTH live as well as Ian solo on numerous occasions. Thanks MottOne for posting this. I guess I'll play this DVD (again) as soon as I get home. This DVD and "Strings Attached" are incredible DVD's. I can't wait until "Shrunken Heads" comes out on May 15th, 2007!!!
couldn't agree more. I saw MTH live about ten times 69-74 and was here on this night. It's my mate gets thrown off stage at the end. Dave from Dartford lol.
I bought the first (self-titled) Mott the Hoople album -- which is where this outstanding song can be found -- when I was a senior in high school. It's wonderful and amazing how well this song has weathered 37 (?) years...Thank you, MottOne, for posting it. Ian still rocks.

A little more lead from Mick woulda been good. Who was the flashy lead guitarist?
pegleyjr 4 years ago
Andy York, must be weird for Mick seeing someone else play his lead parts

I'm sure it's much worse for Mick to know that Boz Burrell is no longer among us.

Excellent Mott Track although Boz Burrell never played with Mott the Hoople he was in Bad Company....Peter "Overend" Watts wast Motts Bass player

Mott the Hoople was one of the best bands around at that time.
Incredible they never made it to world fame.
