I got the Ico and Shadows of the colossus collection for christmas, only beaten the second colossi...? yeah colossi. And got to say i LOVE it, im a big fan of anime and manga though, so its not surprising, but I have minor issues with some of the controls >.>. It's really great though.

this game is THE best game ever made. not to mention, the previous Ico was good too. waiting for their next project The Last Guardian, but still Shadow of Colossus is the best among of all three. you have to think, use your brain how to kill the boss. this ain't like any other game which "Press X for finisher" or something shit like that. if you can't think well enough to kill the boss, i'm afraid you just have to stop playing it or you won't make any progress at all.
This game is amazing! The bosses are awesome and the exploration elements are really good. The bad thing about the game are the that the controls can get really unresponsive.

Most games now insist on quick time events because the developers are too lazy to actually give you the controls you need to do something exciting like this game does. Taking down one colossi is far more rewarding than taking down any of the giants/Gods/demons from God of War, sure they had personality but there was no achievement in pressing buttons when the game tells you too.

Honestly this is like, in the entirety of video games, top 3 along with Arkham City and Ocarina of Time. What sets this up above those two is one aspect, its replay value. It is much shorter than the others, but the moment your done and you put it down, you just HAVE to play it again.
i know i may get some hate for this but i just didnt enjoy this game. I mean it was very cool in some part and the graphics were nice but the controls were just annoying for me. When i was climbing the colossus it was just annoying because it never stopped shaking and the climbing controls were bad. The horses controls also didnt help me at all and it seemed like Agro would have a seizure. I think this is the most overrated underrated game.
@tardersauce12 Agro is a pain to control during fights, I ended up switching the triangle button to L1 though so i could move the camera better while riding and it really helped. I don't know about the climbing though, once you know some of the Colossi's movement patterns I could scramble up on to them without any trouble at all. I found climbing much more free & precise than games like Uncharted.
hey jeremy you played it on 3D yet or hd yet? i just did about 5 mins ago, the 3D on this game is up there with uncharted's 3D MAN! just watching them walk towards you and have them stomp their feet right in front of you and see all the sand jump up you actually feel like covering from it, and and and and and..... what a game
Problem is...youtube ruined the ending of this game for me. As badass as this game sounds, every youtube reviewer who has reviewed this game (except for Jeremy) has spoiled the ending and defeats the purpose of me buying it.

The only thing is I don't think that the colossus are "terrorizing the world". You go out and kill them because a voice from above tells you it'll bring back your loved one. They are sleeping when you approach them, they wake up, and you murder them. They did literally nothing to you. By the way, this is one of my favorite games of all time.

Also you have a grip meter that shows how long you can hold on before you fall off so you have to build that meter up, aswell as your health meter. Under-rated? Really? Try over-rated. I can't stand how many people consider this an "epic game" and how timeless it is. No, you see, Zelda is timeless, Mario is timeless. This game is nothing but the result of a group of lazy game developers who thought that they could still make money by cutting out what makes a game a game and just having boss battles. To top it all off the game itself screws up on numerous accounts, including, first and foremost, terrible, glitchy controls and movement.

The point of playing a video game in the first place isn't to use your imagination either, it's the equivalent of taking out every cutscene and line of speech from, let's say Halo or Assassin's Creed or really ANY video game that has a storyline and releasing it with the devs telling you to "use your imagination."

Each enemy in the game can only be killed in one certain way. You don't get to try out anything new. And even then, the controls are terrible. Deny it all you want, but it's true. Oh and another thing, more often than not, people don't play games to search for the story. They may be able to fix the controls in the re-release, but they can't fix the monotony.

@krios739 The movement and controls are terrible you think? Try GTA IV. At least SotC has animated movements that are more responsive and don't take physics too heavily. In GTA IV for example it takes so much to simply turn and start running because of the physics engine lagging your movements. It's a game so why should it have so much emphasis on dragging physics? SotC is more responsive to button presses even if the model looks glitchy while doing it.

Mario saves Peach and Link saves Hyrule. Master Chief defeats Covenant, Covenant takes Reach even though we knew that already. SotC's ending has nothing we've seen before.

@krios739 the game introduces new elements each time even if it seems like just another colossus. portal is a similar game, each test room may look the same but each time they add on to what they have taught you. shadow is a puzzle game that looks like an action game on the outside, and once you solve a puzzle, does it matter if you find a different way to do it the next time? why would you even want to?
@MrSlimshorty Doing a different puzzle using the same mechanics as the first one is boring. It's different in other games when the environment isn't also the enemy. Portal is another offender, though it was improved in the sequel. And finding new ways to face a problem (be it a single enemy or a whole swarm of them) is what makes games fun and replayable.

No matter how epic this game is why doesn't anyone mention how shitty the frame rate is. The frame rate ruined this game for me. I am so freaking hyped for the PS3 version! super smooth frame rate rules.

what JJ said, but also the animation quality of the character and the horse rivals many games of today... and this is a PS2 game! Also you have a grip meter that shows how long you can hold on before you fall off so you have to build that meter up, aswell as your health meter. I still have to finish this game, it's so epic and love how unique it is. What other game has only boss battles? What other game is a platformer at the same time that it's a boss battle?

Under-rated? Really? Try over-rated. I can't stand how many people consider this an "epic game" and how timeless it is. No, you see, Zelda is timeless, Mario is timeless. This game is nothing but the result of a group of lazy game developers who thought that they could still make money by cutting out what makes a game a game and just having boss battles. To top it all off the game itself screws up on numerous accounts, including, first and foremost, terrible, glitchy controls and movement.

@krios739 they took out what made rpg type games shit boring and compensated with great boss fights. they made a story that was obviously very deep but let your imagination fill in the gaps. this game is timeless and the controls are fine, you just suck at it.

@MrSlimshorty it doesn't even qualify as an rpg-type game, the boss fights are repetitive, the story was stereotypical and there's nothing "deep" about it. The point of playing a video game in the first place isn't to use your imagination either, it's the equivalent of taking out every cutscene and line of speech from, let's say Halo or Assassin's Creed or really ANY video game that has a storyline and releasing it with the devs telling you to "use your imagination."

@krios739 ots amazing how you think this is repetitive but halo or assains creed arent. you can say anything is repetitive. why? because all games are going to maintain the same concept thats what makes the game individual. this game is NOT halo or creed, it has a story that builds without dialouge or frequent cutscenes. The game looks simple but you find it is very dark and emotional apon searching. i understand this game isnt for everyone, try and understand it is for someone.

@MrSlimshorty The reason why this game is intensely repetitive is because there is no room for trying out new things. There is no strategy. Each enemy in the game can only be killed in one certain way. You don't get to try out anything new. And even then, the controls are terrible. Deny it all you want, but it's true. Oh and another thing, more often than not, people don't play games to search for the story. They may be able to fix the controls in the re-release, but they can't fix the monotony.

@mgs3re4dmc3 It's a video game. Imagination shouldn't be playing into it. I've already explained a bit why it shouldn't either. It's a like a game purposely not including something vital and then having the tagline "Use your imagination!" It's lazy and not at all fun.

@krios739 The movement and controls are terrible you think? Try GTA IV. At least SotC has animated movements that are more responsive and don't take physics too heavily. In GTA IV for example it takes so much to simply turn and start running because of the physics engine lagging your movements. It's a game so why should it have so much emphasis on dragging physics? SotC is more responsive to button presses even if the model looks glitchy while doing it.

The actual game itself is what I have a problem with. You would've known that if you had been reading my comments instead of just catching the "I don't like this game" part.

@krios739 Ooh, now you're attacking my persona. With regards to "imagination", your argument is contradictory. You say video games shouldn't have imagination play into the experience, but your point about replayability cannot be stated if imagination doesn't come in to allow the player to try out new things. The imagination aspect is the player's fault if they cannot find ways to be creative with the game. Also, how is the story "stereotypical"? What classifies as a stereotypical story?

And how is the story the same hundreds of times? How is Halo's story not the same hundreds of times? How is Mario or Zelda not the same story hundreds of times, despite being "timeless" as you say? Mario saves Peach and Link saves Hyrule. Master Chief defeats Covenant, Covenant takes Reach even though we knew that already. SotC's ending has nothing we've seen before.

@krios739 the game introduces new elements each time even if it seems like just another colossus. portal is a similar game, each test room may look the same but each time they add on to what they have taught you. shadow is a puzzle game that looks like an action game on the outside, and once you solve a puzzle, does it matter if you find a different way to do it the next time? why would you even want to?

@MrSlimshorty Doing a different puzzle using the same mechanics as the first one is boring. It's different in other games when the environment isn't also the enemy. Portal is another offender, though it was improved in the sequel. And finding new ways to face a problem (be it a single enemy or a whole swarm of them) is what makes games fun and replayable.
