I agree with Dr. Daniel Seigel. What he says makes sense. Genitals don't have a brain that says "Oh! I have female genitals! I'm a girl! Start behaving like one!". The brain choses the behaviour and feelings, and the genitals are just another organ in the body. I also agree with him when he says what society does that concludes people to believe that they're what they are depending on their genitals. He outsmarted Dr. Phil on this one, in my opinion.

Also a reason why so few actually "become transgender" as adults (I assume a large part of it is having surgery) is because it is so expensive, invasive and takes a long, long time. Many people simply do not have the means to go through with it.

@poppylv21 sexual identity and gender identity go hand in hand, most boys who have gender identity disorder either have a sex change and seek relationships with men or else become homosexual men. They are not exactly the same thing, they they do relate!
If it's a phase, no harm done, it will pass eventually. If it's not, then the issue of sex changing operations and other things will come up at some point, but as far as I can see the parents are very supportive. As long as the kid feels accepted and loved, he/she will turn out ok, whether as a boy or a girl.

There's a big difference in who you want to be in a sexual relation with and what your own gender is. 've been living as a woman for 16 years, post op since 1999... and I'm bisexual. Kids usually think like "okay, there are fish that can breeth air too". ;D Not meaning that transgendered people are weird but that kids actually take pretty nicely all the things that are weird to them since everything is weird and new when you're a child. As an adult you think you know how things "should be" and that's when prejudice takes place.

I hate to say it, but i think this kid just likes pretty colours. It doesn't mean he wants to grow up to be a woman. This family might want to get a good therapist. Gender confusion is a rich word for gay. The whole show is contrived imo.

Transgendered people don't always start living as women in adulthood because it's pretty hard in many sociaties. I am strongly against parents allowing their children to do whatever they want and feel like. This boy is too young, he was only 3 years when he wanted to be a girl and the parents simply let him? God made a mistake, does he even know who God really is? If adults want this, then it is another issue but children should watched closely, go for therapy and be allowed to grow to a matured age before any major decisions are made

This little girl is very smart knowing all that this young. This is not a kid "doing whatever they want". In regards to my comment below, in simple terms, we should all have the 'Human' right to individual persuit of happiness, regardless what our gender is or what labels people place on others. @CrystalMystique i agree, but there is such fine lines between what you just said that many other christians believe it's a "sin." they would think something more like, "why does it matter what gender you are? you are born male/female, and you should conform to that." i would rather not get into the religion of it, and just stick with who i am, and what i know, and the present. it's about being able to adapt in your life and find happiness wherever it might be. that should be anyones goal.

Gender roles are mentioned many times in the bible and most christianity proclaims them as essential for spousal relationships, but this contradicts the notion of being more than animals and choosing who we are. It shows a lack of concious understanding of the soul, which can't be put in to such a narrow and earthly box as gender. There is nothing in gender that could ever be divine. Christians are unconciously terrified of questioning their god. I know because I used to be one, and devout at that. Conciously I questioned all the time, but always with a powrful bias.
