I think the reference is to the bathyscape Trieste, the small submarine which reached a record maximum depth of about 10,911 metres (35,797 ft), in the deepest known part of the ocean on Earth, the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench near Guam, on January 23, 1960. Though the lyrics of the song are sort of an introspective rambling, with no direct connection to the submarine or the city, it's probablyly ment as a metaphor for something. Cool nickname btw, Kusturica?

Trieste as in Trieste, Italy? I'm guessing not, Trieste is a beautiful harbor city in Italy; the Vienna by the Sea.
