If "God" created it all......what was going on all those millions of years BC.....who "created" the Egyptions and Romans that were around centuries b4 ?? Listening to "thumpers", trying to explain or debate creationism vs. evolution is actually entertaining.....they're totally illogical and unrealistic.....and they make their "rules" as necessary....they're a joke !!
The eye evolved from simple light sensing cells, to pinhole like camera to the eyeball we have today over millions of years. Lots of animals have better eyes than us, "gods kids". The examples are there, the evidence in dna, The transitional forms, now its its down to science not yet understanding abiogenesis and the exact moment of the big bang and they throw in "god did it" When origins are known they'll find something else. Fear of the unknown is the only way any myth works.
@nerdwonder Just because you know how somthing works does not mean there is no God. Science is simply the observation of an event or events that occur, which is not proof that there is no God.
@jihadifanclub You miss the point, its Christians in the vid making the claim god is responsible for the big bang and natural evolution, just because science doesn't know something does not mean there is a god. The reason people place their gods in scientific gaps of knowledge is because myth needs an unknown to work, a few thousand years ago we didn't know what night and day was, so it "was god" same thing happens today with science's unknowns. Catholicism works like any myth.
@jihadifanclub We will never know everything, god will always be placed in the gaps. A small % of scientists do 'cause religion indoctrinates children before they can use logic and reason, the fear of hell and the reward of heaven are used to terrify and bribe little kids into believing or they will be tortured by their "loving" god till the end of time in hell. This is a traumatic and powerful brainwashing technique that remains well into adult hood, for scientists too.
@nerdwonder How about scientist that believe in a creator but do not follow a particular faith or follow a faith that does not have th concept of heven or hell?
@jihadifanclub The women in the vid and most scientists have a particular faith complete with a heaven and hell, so the question is an abstract hypothetical. There is no evidence for intelligent design, intelligent design simply points to scientific gaps of knowledge as if it's proof or asserts; life is complicated, therefore a creator did it. It too is a myth that needs unknowns to work. A ID "scientist" cant use indoctrination as reason, they are simply delusional, unscientific
@jihadifanclub Can you prove there is no invisible pink unicorn that creates and controls all? No? Does that mean it exists? Of course not same goes for every god. Im not here asserting there is no god, i am here complaining about how believers use scientific unknowns to justify and validate their gods, like the women do in this video.
@nerdwonder What is exactly wrong with using scientific unknowns to validate god especially if you still believe in science? I really dont see the harm in it is what I am trying to get at. Theist are simply saying that everything has a creator regardless of if we know how somthing does or does not work.
@jihadifanclub Unknown=god is a false assertion. Whats the harm? Spreading ignorance for one, the one host on this show thinks the earth is flat cause bible says so. Its better that the unknown pushes us to new discoveries instead of being left stagnant with false supernatural explanation. Religion has actively suppressed science in the past, ask galileo, and still tries with ID is schools today. Look up "inquisition" if you want to see how harmful false assertions of god can be.
@nerdwonder Well, I guess as far a Christanity is concerned this may be the case in some instances. However, this is not always the case, as a Muslim I don't see how my faith goes against science. In other words these people on the View do not represent all people the believe in God.
@jihadifanclub Didnt claim they did. Islams history is not free of human rights violation or stagnation of knowledge. Islam was a scientific cultural power house till about the 13th century, till theologists in power demanded a more dogmatic approach to it, now Muslim nations have the least amount of scientists per capita and are far behind the rest of the world. Both bible and Qur'an teach brutality and both speak of afterlife punishments. Its easier to abuse faiths than truths.
@nerdwonder Can you provide evidence that the Muslim world until the 13th century fell because of theologist? Can you prove that Muslim nations have less scientist per capita?
@jihadifanclub Try google "Islamic golden age" or "Muslim scientists per capita" The info comes from "Human Development Index reports" It did go from number one to next to nothing, a more dogmatic approach to worship is cited among other reasons. The Qur'an has the same myths about creation, same tribalistic brutality as the bible. Same threats of afterlife punishments for kids. People have abused the Qur'an to create suffering and violence, to gain power, same as the bible.
@nerdwonder Obviously you have not been to many Muslim countries. Sitting behind a computer and looking at "studies" and "facts" based upon Western "experts" of politcal science is not accurate..in fact it is laughable that you study our populations as if you were filming an animal documentry and draw up bogus conclusions. You fail to notice the MOST of the non Anglo Saxson world is undeveloped and exploitation, colonization, and nationalism is to blame NOT religion.
@jihadifanclub Trust what a religious authority says about itself over independent study? Ridiculous. Nice Qur'an inspired tribalism, disparaging the west for being the west, your jihad is based on hate not fact. It is simply a census, im not impressed with righteous words. Try science, show me as in depth a census that says otherwise. Your claim that islam is less mythical and brutal while being more moral and scientific is also based on your feelings of superiority, not fact.
@nerdwonder What EXACTLY do Islamic scholars tell Muslims to do that goes against independant study? When did IO say I hated the West for simply being the West, especially when Islam is not cultural hence its not east or west? How is our jihad based on hate? You are making TONS of claims with no real evidence to back up what you are saying. Please site SPECIFIC examples where Muslims are doing these things you claim.
Um, where exactly did Elisabeth attack the Theory of Evolution? She didn't. She said the exact same thing as Whoopi. She just like many Christians (myself included), she feels that both Evolution and Creationism go hand-in-hand.
Although I don't care for Elizabeth I would say I leaning more on her side. I don't understand why people who don't believe in God feel the need to try and make others feel bad and/or stupid for having a religion. I do, and plenty of scientist, believe that religion and evolution go hand and hand. Opposing the alliterative, the big I don't know theory, because you can argue the the bang theory, but what caused the bang? How did things even come together to bang?
@MissNisha2006 and if god created everything, what created god ? If you say nothing and he always existed, than god creating everything isnt a sufficiant explanation
Although I'm personally not a fan of Elisabeth I think she makes a good point and I don't understand why people are hating on her in this particular video. Elisabeth made some of the exact same points/examples we make in philosophy class so I doubt she got her facts from an "encyclopedia." The fact of the matter is it's very unlikely the Big Bang happened since, as Elisabeth was saying, there are too many scientific consequences to say that science and ONLY science is responsible for everything.
@lldl1704 they're hating on her because she used the same damn arguments against god and evolution that we've all heard a million times before. And for the record science isn't responsible for anything, science is a method of understanding the world not some religion or a god. The Big Bang has nothing to do with evolution in this case, they are 2 different studies of science. And while I'm on the topic the Big Bang is quite a bit more likely than whatever it is you learned in fairy tales 101
How can you tell if a bag is designed? By comparing it to something undesigned! Nature! Everything else! And at the end of the video when she talks about coincidences etc, you really should read some of Stephen Hawkings and other scientists work about it, it really is interesting.
That awful jacket she's wearing was one of her own "designs" that she sold on QVC. It looks like one of those bed jackets old ladies wear in the hospital when they're receiving guests.
Cockroaches are smarter than these idiots. This is unbelievable, how stupid can they be, there are no Gods they are man made primative creations. The bible is regarded as the word of God. You can't chose to change it's meaning to go with the times. We are intelligent enough now to figure out how things really are the way they are. The bible is the way it is because it was written by man not God.
ugh... why do creationists always say "there must have been a designer it didn't just go 'poof' and appear!".... but evolution doesn't teach anything about the origin of life. creationists are the one that think POOF shit just appeared, not evolutionists...
Jeez.People who don't believe god think that space, atoms, biological systems, chemical compounds, etc, said "BAM I'm here!"Or that when you die nothing happens.Religions believe that everything had to have had been created or set in motion by a divine being in order for it to exist or evolve into something else and when you die there's hell for bad and heaven for good. If atheists want to deny god, let them. Religious people, keep doing what you're doing. When you die, that'll be the true test.
If its in the bible dont bother to look it up!! It is like when you see a pile of shit you dont have to stick your nose in it to know it is a pile of shit very much like Sherri and Elizabeths oh so ever highley educated opinions what a joke!!!!
Elisabeth is ignorant. you can't just make these claims and refute others without even looking at both logically. Like using the human eye as a claim for a creator. yes it's complex, that doesn't mean there's a creator. it is far from perfect. blind people have the same eyes as seeing people, they just don't work. if god is so powerful and perfect, then why does he make so many mistakes.?
I like how Elisabeth used the Stature of David as an example, "you don't go to Italy and see the statue of David and think *poof* that just came into existence", yet she believes man did? Like the Bible itself, most 'Good Christians" contradict themselves.
You can totally believe in both. What if God created Adam through evolution and the Bible just gives the cliff notes version? Just saying - you don't have to believe in one or the other. Science just may be a physical manifestation of something more spiritual at work and the spiritual could be a more complex way of how things work than what science has discovered yet. Can't we all just get along and enjoy the ride? lol
You will find many people still believing in god even though they no it isn't true due to their upbringing. Kids were scared to death in their time with hell fire. That sort of brain washing is not easy to get rid of. That is why the church wants to get it in schools, it wants to get to kids whilst they are at school. Keeping it out of schools to stop scaring kids is the best option. Is these people were born in pakistan they would be saying the same thing about islam. Death is you leave it.
I hope other countries are not watching this... If they are, we can only let them know that Elizabeth Hasselbeck gets her information from the "Encyclopedia Moronica". As does her friend and follow idiot Sheri. Creationists always begin with the "for me" statement, like that's supposed to preclude them from being questioned. There is a complete lack of critical thinking and intellect when "I believe", and "for me" statement precedes a profound question. Better to use "I Think".
@gregsim12001 Whomever you may be, I love you and I just want to say that "i think" you hit the nail on the head while using ninja focus with regard to the principles you have put forth regarding the debate strategy utilized by most ignorant and unrealistic creationists. Keep fighting the good fight.
EH, you are one of the worst examples of a christian. You are one of the reasons people stay away from "Christians". You are very mean spirited and judgmental.
@Fallnights So those laws in the OT no longer matter? Jesus begs to differ:
'Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke or a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished." --Matthew 5:17-18--
So what are you waiting for? Go stone some homos and shellfish eaters!
@ThePhantom135 Are the laws in the OT still valid? - Yes. Did Jesus said what you quoted? - Yes. Am I going to stone "some homos and selfish haters"? - No. Why? Because I'm not without sin! Are you without sin? - No. Is anybody now existing without sin? - No. Conclusion: You are not allowed to stone anybody. One of the 10 commandments says: "You shall not murder" and Jesus says you are guilty of murder just by hating someone in your heart.
@Fallnights What you just said sounded really contradictory. Jesus validates stoning people for certain crimes but then claims that it's murder and no one has the right to do it. ???? This is why I'm no longer a Christian. The Bible the (supposed) infallible word of God is full of contradictions and outdated moral codes. And hatred is the same as murder? Please. That's just some kind of guilt trip method Jesus (or whoever wrote his lines) used to keep people in his religion.
@ThePhantom135 The circumstances may have been very different back in the days of the OT, that's why some acts (such as stoning) were allowed for a time (this is just _my_ theory and conclusion). But what I KNOW is: You are not allowed to stone someone today. Saying that Christians are supposed to stone certain people is a false teaching. You say you used to be a Christian, but how close did you get to Christ?
@hortulanus94 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished."
@hortulanus94 Again, still sounds like shitty planning. Have an entire society kill each other over retarded laws that will be "fulfilled" 2000 years later because THAT'S when God decides to intervene. But you know, the Lord works in mysterious ways.
@hortulanus94 Besides, even if the OT laws no longer matter, THEN WHY CREATE THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE?! Moses says crap like "Stone adulterers and disobedient children" then Jesus comes along and says "No, don't stone people." Well, great. Hundreds of people have just been executed. That doesn't sound like it was planned by an omnipotent divine being that exists beyond space and time, more like illiterate, barbaric Bronze Age goat herders.
Ok am I the only person who thinks its shameful she actually gets paid to share her brainless opinions with the world? Like seriously Hasslebeck is a joke and a pitiful person in general. My cat has a more braincells than her. . . .. thats evolution Elizabeth . ..my cat is more evolved than you lol I look forward to the day she is finally taken off the air and shut up for good.
@travitheMuffinMan The possibility of such a process was demonstrated in 1953 by Stanley Millar and Harold Urey, who simulated the effects of lightning storms in a primordial atmosphere by subjecting a refluxing mixture of water, methane, ammonia and hydrogen to an electric discharge for about a week. The resulting solution contained significant amounts of water-soluble organic compounds including amino acids.
@travitheMuffinMan or violent lightning discharges, caused molecules of the primordial reducing atmosphere to react and form simple organic compounds (e.g., amino acids, nucleic acids and sugars)
Let me explain. the atmosphere at that time would have been a reducing atmosphere providing the hydrogen atoms for the synthesis of compounds needed to create life. In the 1920s, the Soviet scientist Aleksander Oparin (1894â1980) and the British scientist J.B.S. Haldane (1892â1964) independently suggested that ultraviolet (UV) light, which today is largely absorbed by the ozone layer in the higher atmosphere (cont.)
If I sit around for a billion years I'll probably hit the mega millions so what's her point? Oh yeah and I believe in an almighty force..........but he definitely ain't human.
Why would people even want to consider a celebrity's opinion on evolution? These people probably don't even understand 1% of the theory of evolution, they're just a bunch of middle aged women, sitting on a sofa speaking whatever garbage that comes to their minds; let them live in their ignorant world.
Where do creationists get this idea that the human eye is perfect? Eyesight diminishes, so there. Not only that, we can't see in infrared, or ultraviolet, and our night vision is horrendous.
Science tells us that it took evolution some 40,000 yrs for man to develop a thumb... unfortunately, it will probably take another 40,000 yrs for people like Hasselbeck to pull it out of their ass's. She's basically proof that evolution isn't finished with us yet.
The human eye is NOT perfect at all! The nerve cells in our eyes arn't placed in a logical way, causing blind spots in our sight. Also, over half of people need glasses because our eye is still a pretty new and ''work in progress'' structure. Most humans suffer of back pain in their life, caused our upright position, which occured too fast for the spinal cord to change for it's new use of column instead of arch.
Evolution is not perfect, since it has to work with yesterday's model.
Yes, she's a blonde, but let's not insult unneccessarily. She's just reworking the Watchmaker's Argument, aka the Teleological argument. We should be upset more with her interlocutors for not successfully shutting her up.
Hmm, the complexity of the human eye, eh? Why, then, is it backwards? Yes, light has to bounce off our retina because the cones are facing the wrong direction. Also, we can see very little visible light/wavelengths. If this "creator" is so smart and made us in his image, why are there other animals with more acute vision than ours? He challenging us or something? And side note: eyes don't "contract"...the pupils constrict. Big difference.
If things were off by one hair, then we wouldn't exist. Yeah, and guess what... Things were off a few hairs for the Chooka galaxy, and the Shobamba people, and the liquid Turahrgos of Galaxy R7. You know why you never heard of these galaxies and creatures? Because they never happened. They never happened because the universe was off a bit. This is what kuncklehead Elisabeth doesn't get: ony when conscious beings happen are they able to say, "Hey look we're here!" It's a tautological truth.
Sittng here watching the beginning, wondering when she was going to get to the inevitable creationist observation about the complexity of the human eye. It's always about the eye with these people. They seem to be stuck on the eye thing. No evolution because look -- eye! Eye: complicated, my capacity for thought: simplistic. No match! And sure enough...she gets there!
The stupidity of Elizabeth is astounding. Comparing a handbag to evolution is ridiculous. People need to take a semester on Natural Selection and Evolution to understand its complexities. Religion is mythological nonsense.
Handbags and shoes do not occur in nature. They do not grow out of the ground and are not produced by two bags, who love each other very much, mating. If they naturally occurred you would not ask who created them. I doubt you've ever looked at a rabbit and thought "wow, what an amazing rabbit, clearly someone designed it and put it together much like a bag!". Also, the big bang has absolutely nothing to do with evolution.
@hebrewgod I agree. But the big bang has a lot to do with evolution. In fact, the big bang is still happening. So, it's kind of evolving.., kind of. Evolution is like gravity in the sense that it doesn't have a point to it. It just is.
@moe761 She wasn't speaking metaphorically. She literally meant that because something is complex then the most likely cause was that someone designed it to be complex, which is absurd on levels I can't even put into words.
@hebrewgod I promise you that I have never in my life seen a bag or pair of shoes that I liked and said "I LOVE that/those! Who's the designer?" Because on my budget and the budget of most of their viewers, the answer would always be "Some designer who works at ABC Company. How would I know?" (Depending on where you shop, there may be an insult about your intelligence, or lack thereof, thrown in at the end.)
She's worse than Oprah with a fraction of the money.
Why is religion the ONLY thing we still cling too from the bronze age??? Personally i don't think you can believe in both the catholic religion and evolution, since one clearly proclaims we all came from adam and eve. who by the way had two sons (cain and abel... both guys, look it up). So how are we descended from two guys--explain that one Hasselbitch!
@blazemyhood wowww haha do you just come up with stuff in your head? They had more kids than just the two guys, it's all in the book of Genesis, you should probably look it up sometime (:
@lolraptourz look up Genesis 5:4 , I wasn't saying they didn't have Seth just that they had daughters as well. This is why I feel people should really look into things before speaking.
@account1234252 so in other words, when i said that they had a third male child and you said i was wrong, i was actually right, cuz they did have a third male child. also, if cain and seth were having sex with their sisters, gross.
@lolraptourz tell me where I said you were wrong about that? where I pointed out that you were wrong was when you said they didn't have any daughters. hahah dudee this is sad obviously you realized your wrong.. not even worth debating anymore. God bless you and I pray that you come to really meet Jesus one day, he's all you'll ever need. Peacee (:
@account1234252 Me: "Yeah. They had a third male child." You: "stop stating false facts"
It's right there for anyone to see. Now show me where I said they had no daughters.
"I pray that you come to really meet Jesus one day, he's all you'll ever need."
How dare you wish for my intellectual stultification. And really, all I'll ever need? Not food, water, air, shelter? I just need some dead guy? Really? I hope you grow up and realize that Santa's not real.
@blazemyhood The bible never said that Cain and Abel were Adam and Eve's only children, dumbell. One of the passages says, ..."be fruitful and multiply." Obviously that doesn't mean only having two kids. Besides, if evolution is true, then tell me whether or not the primordial atmosphere contained oxygen, since the amino acids would've been destroyed by oxygen if it had been in the atmosphere, and without oxygen, they would've been destroyed by UV radiation from there being no ozone layer...
@blazemyhood actually Catholics are contextualist (please don't try to challenge that, I am Catholic have gone to a Catholic school all my life and go to religion class every other day during school) and as contextualist we don't necessarily believe every single thing in the bible. Catholics also believe that science and religion and co-exist for example my school teaches that evolution did happen but God helped push it along.
@banjohenry No one's challenging religious context. It's the entire content of religion that is in question. Creationists "Believe". Evolutionists "Think". Both are mutually exclusive of one another, therefore cannot co-exist. Another analogy if I may: Science is a tool to derive fact by using empirical evidence. Religion is a collection of cultural belief systems, and worldviews that relate to a deity (Supreme Being). Again, both contradictory to one another, therefore cannot co-exist.
@gregsim12001 Please meet my mother, who believes in God, but thinks about science, reads about it, and also promotes Darwin....They co-exist within her weird mind - btw she also strives to reduce her CO2 emissions, grows natural produce at home, etc etc...but won't throw away the belief in a God...annoying for me...but hey...lol. Each to their own...
@Missrainbowmuffin You leave your mother alone, Missy, or you'll have me to answer to! LOL Sounds like your mother and I think somewhat alike. I believe in God, but not creationism or even intelligent design. I wholeheartedly believe in evolution. I like Whoopi's "God clapped" explanation of the big bang. Then he just sat back and watched. Oh he might have thrown a spanner in the works once in a while, but he really just wanted to see what would develop on its own.
@MaeNotEast Okay the reason why I am this way towards her is because she asked me "What is stopping me from killing you?" - she was dead serious (pun intended) - After that incident I am 100% against any religion that allows people to think such a way, even if she is an educated woman who I respect. The belief in a deity to me is outdated and only continuing a history of violence and fantasy
OK, so our universe has a supernatural cause or beginning. But how does the Christian deity fit into this?? To claim the Christian god is responsible for all creation simply because the supernatural is involved is one big, weak, argument from ignorance!
No Lizzy, 99% of everything that ever lived on this planet didn't go extinct because some divine design decided it wasn't worth preserving. Mass extinctions are due to catastrophic events such as "killer asteroids." This is PROOF that our existence and placement are not based on an intelligent agent. Why would an intelligence concerned for our well being leave us surrounded by massive asteroid belts that will continue to release killer rocks our way??
"im a christian. i try to read the bible"????????!!!?!?!?! she believes a god inspired a fucking book but hasnt read the entire thing? if i thought god inspired a book, i would read the goddamned thing
The perfect things like a child.... Umm who designed a child? Well Elizabeth, I don't know if you skipped biology class that month or so, but when mommy and daddy love each other very much, they share their love and a sperm and an egg meet up, get together, start dividing and developing and 9 months later you got's yourself a child !
the bible proverb that says "it is not what comes into a man's mouth that makes him bad or evil, but what comes out of it," follows with Hasselbeck.. such stupid ideas! I cannot believe she discusses the evolution... it's so funny! I am being sarcastic!
God must want us to figure it out... doesn't that seem capricious? Are we some sort of plaything to this divine entity? Please, I love that designer bag, who's the designer? It's only natural that a designer bag would have a designer...Oh the stupidity!!!! Joy must feel like she's in hell.
Ha, ha, ha, if a person believes in God he/she doesn’t need scientific evidence. Trying to prove there is a God with “science” is preposterous. All Belief systems function by neglecting common sense and by using only (non testable ideas, and the continuation of rituals and traditions).
At the moment one starts applying scientific knowledge to a belief system, one is accepting the possibility that there is not enough evidence for that belief system to be true. Science is an on going search of facts, and by making new findings or eliminating previous assumptions the scientist can better explain the way the universe works.
Science is never an absolute because there are new findings that refine what we already know and disregards what it no longer needs. On the other hand, religion is a fixed system that doesn’t accept new ideas, and when it does is only to support their ideology. The purpose of the scientific method is to further get us to the so called “truth” and it doesn’t give a shi/t about an ideology.
god gave man free will cant complain how we treat each other.

You fail to notice the MOST of the non Anglo Saxson world is undeveloped and exploitation, colonization, and nationalism is to blame NOT religion.
jihadifanclub 17 hours ago
@jihadifanclub Trust what a religious authority says about itself over independent study? Ridiculous. Nice Qur'an inspired tribalism, disparaging the west for being the west, your jihad is based on hate not fact. It is simply a census, im not impressed with righteous words. Try science, show me as in depth a census that says otherwise. Your claim that islam is less mythical and brutal while being more moral and scientific is also based on your feelings of superiority, not fact.
nerdwonder 16 hours ago
@nerdwonder What EXACTLY do Islamic scholars tell Muslims to do that goes against independant study? When did IO say I hated the West for simply being the West, especially when Islam is not cultural hence its not east or west? How is our jihad based on hate? You are making TONS of claims with no real evidence to back up what you are saying. Please site SPECIFIC examples where Muslims are doing these things you claim.

I do, and plenty of scientist, believe that religion and evolution go hand and hand. Opposing the alliterative, the big I don't know theory, because you can argue the the bang theory, but what caused the bang? How did things even come together to bang?

Although I'm personally not a fan of Elisabeth I think she makes a good point and I don't understand why people are hating on her in this particular video. Elisabeth made some of the exact same points/examples we make in philosophy class so I doubt she got her facts from an "encyclopedia." The fact of the matter is it's very unlikely the Big Bang happened since, as Elisabeth was saying, there are too many scientific consequences to say that science and ONLY science is responsible for everything.
lldl1704 5 days ago
@lldl1704 they're hating on her because she used the same damn arguments against god and evolution that we've all heard a million times before. And for the record science isn't responsible for anything, science is a method of understanding the world not some religion or a god. The Big Bang has nothing to do with evolution in this case, they are 2 different studies of science. And while I'm on the topic the Big Bang is quite a bit more likely than whatever it is you learned in fairy tales 101

Elisabeth is ignorant. you can't just make these claims and refute others without even looking at both logically. Like using the human eye as a claim for a creator. yes it's complex, that doesn't mean there's a creator. it is far from perfect. blind people have the same eyes as seeing people, they just don't work. if god is so powerful and perfect, then why does he make so many mistakes.?
wigglesworth19 2 weeks ago
I like how Elisabeth used the Stature of David as an example, "you don't go to Italy and see the statue of David and think *poof* that just came into existence", yet she believes man did? Like the Bible itself, most 'Good Christians" contradict themselves.

You can totally believe in both. What if God created Adam through evolution and the Bible just gives the cliff notes version? Just saying - you don't have to believe in one or the other. Fallnights 1 week ago
ThePhantom135 1 week ago
@ThePhantom135 Are the laws in the OT still valid? - Yes. Did Jesus said what you quoted? - Yes. Am I going to stone "some homos and selfish haters"? - No. Why? Because I'm not without sin! Are you without sin? - No. Is anybody now existing without sin? - No. Conclusion: You are not allowed to stone anybody. One of the 10 commandments says: "You shall not murder" and Jesus says you are guilty of murder just by hating someone in your heart.
Fallnights 1 week ago
@Fallnights What you just said sounded really contradictory. Jesus validates stoning people for certain crimes but then claims that it's murder and no one has the right to do it. ???? This is why I'm no longer a Christian. The Bible the (supposed) infallible word of God is full of contradictions and outdated moral codes. And hatred is the same as murder? Please. That's just some kind of guilt trip method Jesus (or whoever wrote his lines) used to keep people in his religion.
ThePhantom135 1 week ago
@ThePhantom135 The circumstances may have been very different back in the days of the OT, that's why some acts (such as stoning) were allowed for a time (this is just _my_ theory and conclusion). But what I KNOW is: You are not allowed to stone someone today. Saying that Christians are supposed to stone certain people is a false teaching. You say you used to be a Christian, but how close did you get to Christ?

@travitheMuffinMan The possibility of such a process was demonstrated in 1953 by Stanley Millar and Harold Urey, who simulated the effects of lightning storms in a primordial atmosphere by subjecting a refluxing mixture of water, methane, ammonia and hydrogen to an electric discharge for about a week. The resulting solution contained significant amounts of water-soluble organic compounds including amino acids.
Samsukkaa 3 weeks ago
@travitheMuffinMan or violent lightning discharges, caused molecules of the primordial reducing atmosphere to react and form simple organic compounds (e.g., amino acids, nucleic acids and sugars)
Samsukkaa 3 weeks ago
Let me explain. the atmosphere at that time would have been a reducing atmosphere providing the hydrogen atoms for the synthesis of compounds needed to create life. In the 1920s, the Soviet scientist Aleksander Oparin (1894â1980) and the British scientist J.B.S. Haldane (1892â1964) independently suggested that ultraviolet (UV) light, which today is largely absorbed by the ozone layer in the higher atmosphere (cont.)

It's actually incredibly easy to believe in creation and evolution.
It's as simple as God created the universe to be perfect, and the universe would be perfect if it was constantly evolving.
I think the problem is people take the bible literally.
They think the 7 days of creation are 7 days where a day is 24 hours and an hour is 60 minutes etc...
Why would an omnipotent being be constrained to our measurements of time?
If you take the bible as a metaphor, then it can coincide with science easily

Hmm, the complexity of the human eye, eh? Why, then, is it backwards? Yes, light has to bounce off our retina because the cones are facing the wrong direction. Also, we can see very little visible light/wavelengths. If this "creator" is so smart and made us in his image, why are there other animals with more acute vision than ours? He challenging us or something? And side note: eyes don't "contract"...the pupils constrict. Big difference.

Dear Elizabeth,
Handbags and shoes do not occur in nature.
Yours,
H.

@hebrewgod I agree. But the big bang has a lot to do with evolution. In fact, the big bang is still happening. So, it's kind of evolving.., kind of. Evolution is like gravity in the sense that it doesn't have a point to it. It just is.

Obviously that doesn't mean only having two kids.

Catholics also believe that science and religion and co-exist for example my school teaches that evolution did happen but God helped push it along.
banjohenry 3 weeks ago
@banjohenry No one's challenging religious context. It's the entire content of religion that is in question. Creationists "Believe". Evolutionists "Think". Both are mutually exclusive of one another, therefore cannot co-exist. Another analogy if I may: Science is a tool to derive fact by using empirical evidence. Religion is a collection of cultural belief systems, and worldviews that relate to a deity (Supreme Being). Again, both contradictory to one another, therefore cannot co-exist.

the bible proverb that says "it is not what comes into a man's mouth that makes him bad or evil, but what comes out of it," follows with Hasselbeck.. such stupid ideas!

If god wanted us to "figure it out" it would have given us some evidence.
