what wonderful thing it would have been if she had remained in this repertoire that she could really sing fantastically well and not start hallucinating she is Callas singing all the asoluta roles ridiculously
Unbelievable night. I recorded the entire concert at the TCE. Mindblowingly magnificent ! I HAVE HAD THE CHANCE TO HEAR ONCE IN MY LIFETIME Madame Grüberova! I Yes, the Pirata wasn't good, because of the lack of low register, but Elisabetta, Lucia, Konstanze, Fledermaus were so amazing! WOW !
I was there and I must say it was a memorable night. Absolutely unbelievable! In the concert program it was written: "Notre meilleure chanteuse? Non: la seule!". And that's what it is: she is more than simply the best: she is unique! The "Primadonna Assoluta" of Belcanto. There's no other like her. It was a memorable night in Paris, 17 December 2009, Theâtre des Champs-Elysées. Unforgettable. She is a miracle! BRAVISSIMA!!!
She did not perform a solo-recital in Paris since 1990! The reaction of the public was unbelivable: 25 minutes of applause and much flowers. Some people were speechless, because of her singing. From one listener she good a road sign, which was inscribed "Avenue Edita Gruberova". It was indeed a great evening, not only for Gruberova, but also for the art of belcanto!
I was there too and a friend of mine was the chap who offered her the plaque. In Konstanza's aria, she sings with precaution. But what a challenge to start a concert with this gruelling aria. It was a memorable evening. I published an account on Forum Opera, just FYI. Best.
Much better than most other arias that night, though for the honesty of it, I'm just hearing "a 62 years old woman admirably making it through the score" and not a "Mozart's Konstanze", if you get the difference.
I think she should just stick to the higher tessitura arias where she still has something to say (or sing) and lower-sitting arias out of the repertoire because no matter how she tries to camouflage it, her low is completely gone - here too.
