If they ever re-release any more updated Star Wars original trilogy collections. I would use this exact scene for Return of the Jedi. And i think George Lucas would too. You did an amazing job. Fantastic work my friend.
When Luke learns his sister is Leia, I always picture the Back to the Future scene where Marty kisses his mom, and she's like "I feel like I'm kissing my brother"
Obi-Wan was trained by both Yoda *AND* Qui-Gon. He was instructed by Yoda as a small child(youngling) and then when he reached a certain age(teenage years?) he was passed off to Qui-Gon Jinn to become his next Padawan apprentice. He then spent a decade or more with Qui-Gon until the tragic events of the Battle of Naboo.
So...both EMPIRE and PHANTOM are right. He had two teachers, not just Yoda.
@TheDarthEddie Which in retrospect I believe really affects the overall perception of Yoda's role and ObiWan's role. If you take the original perspective of the Jedi as warrior-monks who hone their body/mind to be in tune with The Force (as a manipulation of cosmic energy, not silly microparasites that give you super powers) having one Master/Teacher that trains their padawan apprentice to become a Jedi Knight (note not a master) and then takes on their own makes more sense.
@waitingforbrain hehehehehhahahhaah too true. if Anakin hadn't been burdened with that suit and so messed up and stuff he woulda owned Luke, Luke's technique was wild and sloppy, too stiff, though in his defense he didn't have all the people and stuff to train him like Anakin did, he didn't know how to do Djem So properly... but still i think Anakin woulda beat him in a fair fight.
I wish there more people like an Obi-Wan Kenobi: That unwavering pound of confidence, an encouraging voice, modest, always kind and full of warmth. But sadly, I think those people only exist in movies.
It's pretty obvious why Obi-Wan didn't immediately up and tell Luke that Vader was his father, as the first thing he would do is rush to him and be either killed, captured or Luke may even willingly turn to the dark side just to be by his father's side.
Yoda kept saying he was "not ready". He wasn't because his role was not to kill his father but to turn him back from the dark side and resist the temptations of turning... and that was how the emperor was defeated.
To clear up about Obi-Wan's training, Lucas says in the comentary of Episode 2 that Yoda starts off training the jedis when they are little kids as we saw in Episode 2 and when they are old enough he turns them over to a jedi master so originally when Obi Wan was a little kid Yoda trained him then handed him over to Qui-Gon. Anakin was never trained by Yoda as he said he was too old
@willisapril he's barely getting by with that excuse...just like Leia remembering her mother from 'feelings and images'...would a new born infant reeeally remember that? come on......just sayin ;-)
For straight talking & honest truth about how we come to be on earth try the superb book ,' The reason driven life ' by Robert M Price for the thoughts of a real life Obi-Wan Kenobi. Price has the answers and asks the questions which show which theories are not the answers. He also shows which questions do not make sense. Another great thinker on the light side of the force is astronomer & slayer of failed hypotheses; Victor J Stenger. May the force of their septical logic be with you
Leia may have been the other Skywalker, but she was not the last hope if Luke failed. It was still Anakin, he did fulfill the prophecy and killed Sidious.
And here is the major contradiction with the prequels. Here Obi Wan says that he was trained by Yoda. When, according to the prequels, it was Qui-Gon Jin. Obviously here they recut it to try and make it sound like he didn't say it.
@TSPURSBOSS In the end of Phantom Menace Yoda talks with Obi-Wan and said that The Council made Obi-Wan a Jedi Knight but doesn't approve to train Anakin, but Obi-Wan said that he will train Anakin.
Wait, Wait new theory, in the Attack of the clones you see the scene where Yoda is training multiple children around the age of 5 and 6 maybe a little older. do you think Obi Wan was apart of that? before getting older? Just a thought
@TSPURSBOSS Yoda trained every Jedi before someone pick him or her. Yoda trained Obi-Wan too, as he trained Qui-Gon and Count Dooku..... Everyone who was under 13 years old.
@Restrojon After Obi wan trained Anakin. The original quote was how Obi wan tried to train Anakin in the manner in which he was trained by Yoda. Which leads to the second contradiction: How was Anakin able to live on in the force when Yoda didn't reveal his communication with Qui-Gon until after Anakin was lost to the dark side?
@Brittonsp i think what happened was when qui gon was in the afterlife he somehow he found a way to come back present himself to yoda and passed the knowledge on how to come back and how to communicate with others as a spirit
@Lonehawk2k4 But Yoda didn't reveal this until AFTER Anakin was lost to the dark side. If this is the case, then Anakin should not have appeared at the end of Return of the Jedi. George Lucas really botched this one up badly.
@Brittonsp i actually have two theories on y anikin appears at the end of ROTJ either one lucas was just going for that happy ending and disregarded everything star wars taught us about the story or two since anikin had so much of the force within him he was able to do it by instinctively since he was concieved without a father and had a higher cholrene count than yoda
@Brittonsp (countinue) i do have a 3rd but i see it as unlikely which is darth sidious teaching him but i dont think that would make any sense force ghost seems more of a jedi thing than a dark side thing
I had these images pop up in my head the first time I saw episode 6 after I finished the prequel trilogy in 2005. Never would have thought someone would put it on YouTube though
@Statalyzer Vader had no idea his child had been born until hearing that the first Death Star was destroyed by a Skywalker. All he knew was that he'd killed Padme
@Arvestotia But wait! Luke DID get the high ground during the fight, but Vader finally learned how to overcome it; throw a lightsaber like a boomerang at your opponent
@xlrwolf10 It wasnot random and out of nowhere. In the Empire Strikes Back when Luke is hanging below Cloud City and calls for help from Leia, she hears him. That was a hint that she too had some force ability, she was telepathically connected to Luke.
You i like this...... but i wish when luke says there still good in that you would have showed padme before she died and how she said the same thing.....
It could work if Padme died while on a ship with her children when it crashes leading Anakin to believe that no-one survived (when in reality Obi-Wan managed to save the twins)...
Now if only the Prequels hadn't been piles of dogshit, this scene would have been even more meaningful. Now it's just a reminder of how bad they were.
It was all fucking bullshit. George Lucas simply changed his mind about the genealogy plot too late after the original Star Wars was already released. This is commonly known as "playing it off."
One thing I didn't like about Episode 3 was Luke and Leia being born at the very end. I think it would have been more interesting if Padme had already given birth to them and they were both toddlers throughout the movie.
@palpatine17 that would make no sense, becouse darth vader never knew of their existence, untill episode 5, when the emporer tells him that luke is his son,, and he doesnt find out about leia untill the end of return of the jedi, when he is fighting luke
@JOKAWILD26 Anakin only knew about Luke. Even Padme didn't know she was carrying twins til she gave birth.
Vader allowed himself to forget he even had a son, as he tried devoting himself to the dark side and forget about Anakin(especially cos of his killing Padme), but Obi-Wan's presence on the Death Star probably jarred those memories loose,
@williamskidfears but becouse padme had died, anaikin assumed that the baby died with her,, thats why in episode 5 when the emporer tells him, that luke is his son,, vader goes,, but thats imposable ?
@easynowww Not really. All younglings are taught by Yoda before being selected as Padawan learners by their Masters. So, yet again, what he said about Yoda teaching him was true...from a certain point of view
As usual, the ever-dogmatic Obi-Wan left out a couple of things. Like, Anakin was seduced to the dark side, because the Jedi treated him as a pariah rather than as one of their own, and he couldn't turn to them when he needed them most.
Oh, he also left out the part about how he fucked up Anakin's last shot at redeemption and got Luke's mother killed....
Then again, I guess that's truth from a certain point of view.
Anakin might have been a whiney-ass however there are so many "what-if's" that the Jedi could have done, including Obi-Wan, to properly train up this powerful Jedi away from the darkside.
He had only a vague idea of what would take place in the prequels. Lucas changes his statements all the time; the truth is, in 1975, the only thing on his mind was Episode IV of Star Wars.
See:
The Cinema of George Lucas by Marcus Hearn (written 2005)
Skywalking: The Life and Films of George Lucas by Dave Pollock (written 1984)
@maujo2009 In a way he was. Yoda was head of the Old Order for centuries, and he was responsible for enforcing the traditions by which all Jedi were trained. Also, I believe Qui-Gonn(with whom Obi-Wan disagreed)was Yoda's Padawan at one point.
I love how that bit with Obi-Wan and Anakin laughing in the lift is probably the only part of the prequel trilogy which fits the sentence "Anakin was a good friend".
@cashford2 Yeah, they were kinda always arguing throughout the whole movie. But remember also that they were cheerful at the beginning of ep. 3. They were joking around and knew each other very well like good friends.
Oh that works so well. I'm impressed. It's interesting to notice how much film making has changed. In the old days they would have long conversations like that with just talking heads, but these days they use a lot more flashbacks.
What exactly did Hayden do wrong with playing Anakin? I thought he did a fine job. the reality is no matter who they would have picked for the role, no one would have been satisfied. Well done Hayden!!!!
Agreed. Though the acting in the films weren't as great as I would of hoped.
I think that's the only part that let the prequels down. By Hayden did a good job, as did the other actors. Also, different standards. They had so much hype it was a let down, at least for those that find the movies bad.
@101CBR600RR My opinion is that Hayden did a terrible job with the love part at ep. 2 but was an average-good actor at 2 and 3. Personally I think it was Natalie Portman (Padmé) who was the worse one in that drama. Their love was forced and fake (compare it to Han Solo and Leia which felt natural and believable).
@mozzillla Attack of the Clones had great potential, and the framework of a good plot was there, but it shafted the important parts of the story for the love story, which was not done well at all.
All-in-all, the movie had its moments, and I wouldn't call it a "bad movie" (Obi-Wan's half of the movie was good), but considering that its part of the same series as Empire Strikes Back, is it any wonder why people were pissed?
@HatedSovietLion In my mind and in many of my friend's as well, the prequels all were pathetic, except that Episode one was nearly not pathetic. It was the best of the prequels, but by no means equal to movies 4-6.
@Shadowybladeatgmail Really? Episode 1 was better than the others? I gotta disagree. I actually really enjoyed episode 3. Almost more than the original Star Wars. It's up there for me with Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi
@Shadowybladeatgmail LOL! A cartoon and stuffed animals of the same name in the early 80's. Put it this way, it was so sugary sweet cutesy fuzzy bunny, that it could have killed a diabetic, just from watching it.
@Shadowybladeatgmail He's referring to the idealism that defines the rest of the series. Episode 3 was markedly different in that aside from the birth of Luke and Leia, the ending is a downright tragedy, wheras even in Empire Strikes Back (the darkest of the original trilogy), the heroes' wills remain strong, and the movie ends on an idealistic note.

Vader allowed himself to forget he even had a son, as he tried devoting himself to the dark side and forget about Anakin(especially cos of his killing Padme), but Obi-Wan's presence on the Death Star probably jarred those memories loose,
williamskidfears 1 year ago
@williamskidfears but becouse padme had died, anaikin assumed that the baby died with her,, thats why in episode 5 when the emporer tells him, that luke is his son,, vader goes,, but thats imposable ?
JOKAWILD26 1 year ago
@JOKAWILD26 True.
williamskidfears 1 year ago
@williamskidfears It was Qui-Jon-Jinn who taught Obi-Wan, not Yoda, a blooper there!
easynowww 1 year ago
@easynowww Not really. All younglings are taught by Yoda before being selected as Padawan learners by their Masters. So, yet again, what he said about Yoda teaching him was true...from a certain point of view

@easynowww what part
mozzillla 1 year ago
@palpatine17 I think it would've worked either way. After all the prequels weren't about Luke and Leia to begin with.

Then again, I guess that's truth from a certain point of view.
williamskidfears 1 year ago 2
@williamskidfears I love it!
Anakin might have been a whiney-ass however there are so many "what-if's" that the Jedi could have done, including Obi-Wan, to properly train up this powerful Jedi away from the darkside.
Yet, it was Luke who actually figured this out.

@williamskidfears
But then again, the prequels created these left out "truths".
TieLandProductions 1 year ago
@TieLandProductions But, given that Lucas wrote these scripts back in 1975, these left out truths are still valid.
williamskidfears 1 year ago
@williamskidfears
He had only a vague idea of what would take place in the prequels. Lucas changes his statements all the time; the truth is, in 1975, the only thing on his mind was Episode IV of Star Wars.
See:

Wikipedia also confirms this, but people often refuse to trust it as a credible source in Internet discussions.

Man, this is insane! I'd love to see this edited into a star wars blu ray lol (I mean it's not as if they haven't touched the originals before)

imagine learning that's your Sister after all that sexual tension and how much you would hate Han Solo LMAO
RayRayBx 1 year ago
@RayRayBx But it fits. Han is what Anakin would've been if left to his own devices, while Leia is the very incarnation of her mother.
williamskidfears 1 year ago
I don't understand why Obi-Wan insists repeatedly that he was trained by Joda, when in actuality, he was trained by Qui-Gonn.
maujo2009 1 year ago
@maujo2009 Yoda is the master of all jedi younglings
DonnieTheKid 1 year ago
@maujo2009 In a way he was. Yoda was head of the Old Order for centuries, and he was responsible for enforcing the traditions by which all Jedi were trained. Also, I believe Qui-Gonn(with whom Obi-Wan disagreed)was Yoda's Padawan at one point.

Why do u cut this prequel crap into this classic? It does't fit in any way.

I love how that bit with Obi-Wan and Anakin laughing in the lift is probably the only part of the prequel trilogy which fits the sentence "Anakin was a good friend".
cashford2 1 year ago
@cashford2 Yeah, they were kinda always arguing throughout the whole movie. But remember also that they were cheerful at the beginning of ep. 3. They were joking around and knew each other very well like good friends.
Nintendoggy 1 year ago
Oh that works so well. I'm impressed. It's interesting to notice how much film making has changed. In the old days they would have long conversations like that with just talking heads, but these days they use a lot more flashbacks.

What exactly did Hayden do wrong with playing Anakin? I thought he did a fine job. the reality is no matter who they would have picked for the role, no one would have been satisfied. Well done Hayden!!!!
wispfan341 1 year ago
@wispfan341
Agreed. Though the acting in the films weren't as great as I would of hoped.
I think that's the only part that let the prequels down. By Hayden did a good job, as did the other actors. Also, different standards. They had so much hype it was a let down, at least for those that find the movies bad.
101CBR600RR 1 year ago
@101CBR600RR My opinion is that Hayden did a terrible job with the love part at ep. 2 but was an average-good actor at 2 and 3. Personally I think it was Natalie Portman (Padmé) who was the worse one in that drama. Their love was forced and fake (compare it to Han Solo and Leia which felt natural and believable).

@HatedSovietLion what was wrong with attack of the clones
mozzillla 1 year ago
@mozzillla Attack of the Clones had great potential, and the framework of a good plot was there, but it shafted the important parts of the story for the love story, which was not done well at all.
All-in-all, the movie had its moments, and I wouldn't call it a "bad movie" (Obi-Wan's half of the movie was good), but considering that its part of the same series as Empire Strikes Back, is it any wonder why people were pissed?
BroadwayRonMexico 8 months ago
@HatedSovietLion In my mind and in many of my friend's as well, the prequels all were pathetic, except that Episode one was nearly not pathetic. It was the best of the prequels, but by no means equal to movies 4-6.
Shadowybladeatgmail 1 year ago
@Shadowybladeatgmail Really? Episode 1 was better than the others? I gotta disagree. I actually really enjoyed episode 3. Almost more than the original Star Wars. It's up there for me with Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi

@Shadowybladeatgmail LOL! A cartoon and stuffed animals of the same name in the early 80's. Put it this way, it was so sugary sweet cutesy fuzzy bunny, that it could have killed a diabetic, just from watching it.
bozpity 10 months ago
@Shadowybladeatgmail He's referring to the idealism that defines the rest of the series. Episode 3 was markedly different in that aside from the birth of Luke and Leia, the ending is a downright tragedy, wheras even in Empire Strikes Back (the darkest of the original trilogy), the heroes' wills remain strong, and the movie ends on an idealistic note.
