Really miss when they made games that required you to think and die alot of you made stupid decisions. now it's all about constant action broken by as few deaths as possible. I can't tell you how many hours of this game were spent with both of my legs broken crawling around desperately looking for a med pack. It made you think of things the game developers might not have planned for yet still allowed you to do these things.
This was one of the last games of the "they don't make 'em like this anymore" genre. All games should be open ended but the publishing companies want us getting bored quicker and buying more. I think the future is open source gaming.
Companies don't want us bored, that's why games like this are not made anymore, people like you find them boring. If you actual played this game you would know it's not some action packed thriller, it's a slow paced suspense game.
So many people complain about the modern ones (like LA noir and Heavy rain) that they have no reason to attempt it.
Not getting hopes up for 3 although it might be as good as it should be.
@videosfromderelix 3 is going to be really good. Play the leak if you haven't, Eidos seems cool with it and actually like the feedback they've gotten. Made me preorder the augmented edition after I played it.
@videosfromderelix You misunderstand. My favourite games were Elite, Frontier, Civ I, II, III, IV, V, C&C, Deus Ex, Thief I, II, III etc. I love the immersive games and I lament that hey really aren't available anymore.
@jacksawild Oh I see, you may want to try Crysis 2 then. I have yet to play it but I loved Farcry because of how imersive it was.
Seems like they have cut back on "immersion" because so many "gamers" complained that they were trying to be too realistic, as if having our type of game was taking away theirs.
I would love to play a game where you are slowly crawling through the mud and covering your face in it to hide yourself. Something with that "rambo" esque feel, setting traps and whatnot.
@jacksawild I go for consoles for that kind of stuff, no worries that way.
PCs I mostly use for exclusive pc games like black and white 1 and 2 and of course deus ex or games where they fucked up the port, like deus ex or civilization.
The ENB Series messes up the textures to make it look like everywhere was coated in plastic or something and bloom makes some places too bright. Petty you couldn't have a workaround to get nice looking bloom on D3D10 render, not ugly on D3D9 and without the horrible texture issue ENB has,, Top that with New Vision and HDTP full and you'd have great looking game.
@Ronin228 Could never do that myself, I'm a bit of a sucker for the dramatic entrance and the possibility of interrogation. Doing another play through, going to see what happens if I just knock her out instead.
Really, all I'd want to use is the HDTP mod for Deus Ex. No offense to guys converting the Direct3D to a more up-to-date profile, but this REALLY is the opposite of an improvement to the graphics, between the muddier textures, and the over-bright bloom effects... :\
Imagine if there was an official update/rerelease to this game (similar to what starbreeze did with the first riddick game when they included it on dark athena)
if you slow down a bit >.< you can find all kinds of stuff in that area. God I must have played that game through dozens of times to completion and found new stuff each time. You can find a data pad in one of the cubicles that has the elevator number or find a crawl space back there (or bathroom I cant remember) that bypasses the whole elevator. Of course assaulting the front all matrix style like neo rescuing morpheus was the most fun.
For all you wondering, its the D3D9 or D3D10 render than changes the lighting (I used D3D10 and noticed a big difference in lighting). HDTP doesn't. why is everyone being critical? it was a nice exploration - you have to think like it's the first time you played this not like you have better/quicker ways
is this a new level? I played this game like 6 times and cant remember this facility. It also looks fan-made. for once because of the "They Live" - homage 'Obey', 'Trust' secondly because of the unreasonable architecture (go one level down with the elevator to go 4 levels up with the stairs, to get to an elevator again, that brings you even further down) and thirdly because of the extreme mission "Kill my boss because he watches me"
what is this level for? sub-mission or integrated in the plot?
it's actually part of the plot though I must admit I can't quite remember where it ties in. the "kill my boss" part is a submission, the main mission is to acquire some item from the laboratory / facilities further down the elevator. it's part of the Hong Kong segment.
@Fidbert You're sent to China after escaping Unatco, to find one of Paul's allies, on the resistance side, called Tracer Tong. Tong is the only one capable of turning off you and your brother's Killswitch. During that time, you are engaged in bringing to an end the war between to Triads, while, at the same time, infiltrating a Versalife building which is a cover for some high-level MJ12 operations.
@deraal86 it happens right after you get the dragons tooth sword the first time then you meet tracer tong for the first time, after that you go to versalife which is this level
@deraal86@Fidbert You infiltrate VersaLife to get the blueprint for the Dragon's Tooth, the sword that will end the triad wars in Hong Kong. Once you have the sword, you get to meet Tracer Tong. Remember now? :)
hmm the kill my boss is a secondary mission but i cant believe u have never been to that versalife base, i thought u HAVE TO go there to advance to the next missions.
@deraal86 hey the first part is tracer tongs hideout :) kinda integrated, you need to do a lot of missions inside versalife. The Dragons Tooth sword is at the bottom, as is the ROM modules to make it. And i think theres also a mission to find out what goes on in the labs grey death wise anyway. Trying to get DE2 :D
@deraal86 You could probably have missed most of this level, if you had simply hacked the computer at the fornt desk and walked up to the elevator. I think the dude is there partly for background and partly for players who don't have cash or hacking. It's definitely in the game though...
@deraal86 The reason you had to go into Versalife (if you look carefully , one of the main halls is the location where page talks to simons in the intro) was to steal the plans for the Dragon's Tooth sword so that peace could be made between the triads in Hong Kong. You then have to return and steal some data on how to create the grey death virus so that Tracer Tong can start synthesizing a cure for the plague.
@godfather12m Yes, that happens because , first you must make peace between the triads by aquiring the Dragon's Tooth, then Tracer Tong sends you back to acquire the grey death virus info, but you can pass by that part of the lab on your way to getting the dragon's tooth as well :D .

You need to stfu.
Not really, but I downloaded the HDTP pack from the website of the people who made the HDTP, the file said HDTP and the shortcut that the file installed said Deus Ex HDTP so I'm pretty fucking sure that the HDTP makes everything dark.
It had some unnecessary bloom lighting (or something like that) so it might have some new effects, but from what I could tell the HDTP didn't make the textures better, just made the lights brighter and everything else darker.
1st of all, why stfu me when I was giving a perfectly reasonable and inoffensive explanation? 2nd, HDTP is the High Definition Texture Project - it's _purely_ textures, it doesn't change a thing about how the renderer works in DX. What does change this is enbseries (which adds the bloom) in combination with the improved D3D renderer. Maybe you downloaded the high quality pack which combines all these things. Whatever the case, do your homework instead of telling other people to shut the fuck up.
@F33bs You're replying to a 4 month old comment there, boy.
And besides, If I downloaded the HDTP from their website (IIRC), and it suddenly changed all the lighting to super dark, it fucking changed the lighting to super fucking dark. But I'm not gonna argue about this anymore, this is an old thing and I'm on a new computer so I can't check anything up.
@LufsyLurqy I just thought I'd add more salt to the wound since you were too much of a rude douche to get it the first time. Think of this as a learning opportunity for you. HDTP doesn't change how the renderer operates, its a reskin of existing textures.
@F33bs Fine, I can't convince anybody about this, but how THE HELL DO YOU KNOW? Maybe your version is different, but I hadn't downloaded any other mods, and when I launched HDTP, sure enough, The lighting changed.
Just look at the video above, you can clearly see that the lighting is changed.
@LufsyLurqy remember the message I sent you? what you downloaded was the _high quality pack_, not just HDTP. sure, it was hosted on the HDTP project servers.
as for the video, please take the time and read my description: this video features HDTP, _the new D3Drender and ENBseries, hence the change in lightning. now was that so hard?
how come you think a youtube user is your personal tech support just because I uploaded two videos? I happen to have a life. learn how to use google and stop annoying people on youtube just because you're unable to find your own DOS game cracks.
Best game ever. You should set the on-screen items to toggle off/on. I always liked to run around with nothing on the screen - it always look more real and immersive.
They should just remake the game with better graphics, same story and gameplay, probably upgrade the sound effects but not the voice acting, if you know what I mean.
Original Deus Ex with 16xS combined AA looks amazingly smooth, I could get it to run flawless when my 8600GT was overvolted but I was playing at 1600x1200.
I don't think it's unplayable, it'd just a matter of getting used to the new intense contrasts -- dark corner really tend to be pitch black using bloom while lights can be quite bright. I still think it adds to the overall atmosphere.
Haha, I love fanatics. They can't accept 1 single piece of criticism. I bought this game within 2 months of it's release, completed it 4 times and when I make a true comment people give me the thumbs down. It is a great game, but compared to modern games it is stiff. Does it even look like real life? Nope. Do people speak like that? Nope. Is it a good game? Yep. I say, grow up fanatics and face it's flaws as well as it's beauties.
I still love DX for its amazing gameplay. so what if the dialogue ain't true to life? and who cares if the graphics ain't exactly top notch? this is one of the most immersive games ever and in the end, art is always a means of escapism. and on that level, this is a highly succesful piece of art :).
I've visited HDTP website every month now for... hmm I can't say for sure but it feels like 3+ years now. I was viewing it well before it's first release. It is great game, I was hoping that a release of an updated engine (via another project) and HDTP that I could play it again. I am still waiting. Like I am for Kotor 2 restoration project.
Half-Life is 11 years old and it is more fluid a game. I am bored of most modern games, I can't find many; if any that have a good story. Doesn't mean I see Deus Ex through rose tinted glasses. Even when I first played it, the game was stiff. Everyone walks with their arms by their sides, the voice acting was almost robotic (poor acting) and the terrain was sparse, as I stated. People jump to conclusions, however you placed an if in your statement showing that you are not completely judgemental
Meh, it's based on the first unreal engine, and every engine back then had obvious limitations of some kind.
Although I agree totally about half life, always thought of it as a much more fun game. With deus ex you can spend forever and a day working out an exit strategy, which I like, but half life, (as you say) was much more fluid and fast paced.
Both games were good for their respective times though.
I love half-life, it's one of my favorite games don't get me wrong, but story (the richness of it's context etc) it doesn't come cloes. when you're playing deus ex, it's like you're playing in a book. And also those little details of realism like us having to actually punching the codedoor digits etc, and having to consult notes to advance in the game, that's priceless for me. It's true about the graphics etc though :)
I didn't know another Half-Life was on the way! That's very nice! :) I totally agree with you regarding the 2nd Deus ex. A good game on it's own but definitelly not a worthy sequel.
I would love to play through Deus-Ex with full high definition models and textures one day. It's still one of my all time favourite games, incredible immersion.
Are you running the game in OpenGL or d3d? I know that the GL display mode occaisionally gives people problems with draw distance, but if you're on direct3d mode then I'm afraid I have no idea.
this video was recorded using the new direct3d9 renderer (the enbseries stuff doesn't work with opengl). I just switched to the opengl renderer and haven't experienced any trouble so far.
truth be told, there isn't much to see in terms of HDTP models. this is the very first release from 2006 (I believe) which really didn't contain any significant changes. If you take a look at their website, you'll see what the next release will have in store for us :)
the only problem i have with this rederer is everything look a little to detailed, makes some textures depth look better just not everything

Best game ever. You should set the on-screen items to toggle off/on. I always liked to run around with nothing on the screen - it always look more real and immersive.

whats the difference between this and regular deus ex? i thought they made high polygon models?
chengda85 2 years ago
They should just remake the game with better graphics, same story and gameplay, probably upgrade the sound effects but not the voice acting, if you know what I mean.
MahajiHaji 2 years ago 3
Agree, and maybe extend the game with more chapters!
:D

Original Deus Ex with 16xS combined AA looks amazingly smooth, I could get it to run flawless when my 8600GT was overvolted but I was playing at 1600x1200.

Try out New Vision, too. Its beautiful and with some .ini editing, can be used with ENBseries.

every time i use the bloom thing theres so much bloom teh game is unplayable and if i turn it off the textures look gay and ugly. welp.
SHOPATTHEMALL 2 years ago
I don't think it's unplayable, it'd just a matter of getting used to the new intense contrasts -- dark corner really tend to be pitch black using bloom while lights can be quite bright. I still think it adds to the overall atmosphere.
and stop using gay as an insult.

i wish i wanna have Deus Ex 3 with CryEngine3 on it :)

How about a DX3 that's as good as the origional D:
MahajiHaji 2 years ago
I personally find the bump-mapping effect to be extremely crude-with a bit too much of that immersion-breaking "plastic-wrapped" effect going on.
DJGamer 2 years ago 2
true, though you can do some tweaking here and there. it still looks plasticky and unreal, I totally agree.

I meant doorcode lol sorry for the bad spelling... :)

Also, I hear from the HDTP forums that the mod for it is done, it's just being comiled and will be released on a "glorious day".

Thanks for the info rixille! :)
euheide 2 years ago
Hmm, bloom, Revision, Shifter, HDTP, numerous graphics fixes and alternative renderers...
It seems the game is becoming heavily augmented.

UKFabMan 2 years ago 2
so true, thanks for your comment :)

Does the new lighting mess up where u can hide in terms of shadow? That would be bad news to me, b/c I'm always sneaking around D:
MagicHippieKiller 2 years ago
nope, this is all about new looks, the gameplay hasn't changed at all.
Fidbert 2 years ago
Levels look very sparse compared to most new games.
UKFabMan 2 years ago
That's probably something do with the fact that this is a 9 year old game mate ;)
I don't know if you've ever played it but from my perspective it has a much better story and more versatile gameplay than most game of today.

UKFabMan 2 years ago
Meh, it's based on the first unreal engine, and every engine back then had obvious limitations of some kind.
Although I agree totally about half life, always thought of it as a much more fun game. With deus ex you can spend forever and a day working out an exit strategy, which I like, but half life, (as you say) was much more fluid and fast paced.
Both games were good for their respective times though.
pamew 2 years ago
I love half-life, it's one of my favorite games don't get me wrong, but story (the richness of it's context etc) it doesn't come cloes. when you're playing deus ex, it's like you're playing in a book. And also those little details of realism like us having to actually punching the codedoor digits etc, and having to consult notes to advance in the game, that's priceless for me. It's true about the graphics etc though :)
euheide 2 years ago 5
Aye, good point, the strengths of one game are the weakness of the other.
In any case, Halflife and deus ex are two of my top gmes, still play em :)
Can't wait for half life:black mesa, and of course, Deus ex 3!
Let's hope it's a little better han deus ex 2, which was an okay game on its own, but not a good sequel.
pamew 2 years ago
I didn't know another Half-Life was on the way! That's very nice! :) I totally agree with you regarding the 2nd Deus ex. A good game on it's own but definitelly not a worthy sequel.
euheide 2 years ago
well, the black mesa release I mentioned is actually an unnofficial remake of the first half life, but everything Ive seen so far looks awesome.
Basically half life: source done right.
pamew 2 years ago
If it's like what I've seen in a a video here in youtube, then it's gonna be a blast! heheh :)
euheide 2 years ago
I think I'm going to install Deus ex and play it again today. Haven't played it for a long time :)
euheide 2 years ago
Yeah, it's like playing a book with many different ways to finish the book.
rixille 2 years ago
can't believe you havent whacked everyone yet
leslondon 2 years ago
I would love to play through Deus-Ex with full high definition models and textures one day. It's still one of my all time favourite games, incredible immersion.
bezboznik84 2 years ago 3
looks beatiful!
by the way.. I have a little problem, the lift's buttons doesn't have arrows until I press them...
This is normal? Can I fix that?
carlitoxxe 2 years ago
Are you running the game in OpenGL or d3d? I know that the GL display mode occaisionally gives people problems with draw distance, but if you're on direct3d mode then I'm afraid I have no idea.
pamew 2 years ago
this video was recorded using the new direct3d9 renderer (the enbseries stuff doesn't work with opengl). I just switched to the opengl renderer and haven't experienced any trouble so far.
Fidbert 2 years ago
really? interesting, I always seem to get draw errors as I say (signs + posters not appearing unless looked at from obtuse angles etc)
Nice video btw, nice to see theres still some life in the old girl lol.

Looks better. But I couldn't really see the HDTP models.
qn5r 2 years ago
truth be told, there isn't much to see in terms of HDTP models. this is the very first release from 2006 (I believe) which really didn't contain any significant changes. If you take a look at their website, you'll see what the next release will have in store for us :)
Fidbert 2 years ago
I can't wait for the new HDTP models. But it has been a long time waiting!!!
