  • you remind me of my teacher Ben, don't listen to these haters... my cousin cuts through my saw cable while using a horse, when i've never cut any cables or myself using a similar method to yours for years... skills. keep it up mate

  • @hfcleo --- Right on...thank you for taking time to comment.

it's just another day in the wood pile :D

  • This is the sort of butcher you don't want to be working for you...

  • @xylosfurniture --- awh, come on man...I'm not building a piano here, it's just rough-cut framing lumber.

...what, you don't think you can make a clean cut without saw-horses..?

thanks for watchin', seeya again soon!

  • Is your blade really loose or is the camera playing tricks on me?

  • @daveol415 --- nope, saw blades good; I got a real cheap camera, not very good resolution...just doin' what I can with what I have =)

    thanks for watching

  • thats one of the most dangerous things I have seen ,please wear ear defenders in future

  • @tigertruckerman --- hey thanks for watching...and your concern for my well being is much appreciated!

  • what's that circular saw brand and model that you are using?

    it looks very nice

  • @master7447 --- Why that's a Skilsaw Mag 77. It is a heavy-duty, hard working saw; excellent for rough frame carpentry work and all around general construction.

  • Not a fan of standing or having your legs behind the saw. One kick and your half way to being a pirate.

  • @junglemuffin --- Thanks,

Tools were made to help us...Never use a power tool in fear...Grab hold of that saw like you mean it! Don't be afraid of it...If you've got any strength at all, use it...Think ahead and act, You are in control! =)

  • @MrMldillman Using that logic, it's perfectly fine to point a loaded gun at someone if you don't have your finger on the trigger. Pure cowboy talk.

At the end of the day, if I asked you if you'd encourage your own son to stand behind the saw like that, we both know the answer and we both know why.

As someone who has spent thousands of hours on the saw, the only reason for standing behind the blade like that is pure laziness, and there's no excuse for that.

Saws and nailguns don't say sorry.

  • @junglemuffin --- yes, you are correct...We both know there is a proper way to operate all power tools.

One thing my Grand Daddy taught me over 40 years ago is respect. He said, "son, if you are going to use those tools, you'd better learn how. They are made to help you but if used improperly they can kill you!"

After over 25 years of framing one house after the next it's easy to loose that respect. And that's what will get me hurt...Thank you for helping me to see the light!

  • @MrMldillman well said !! I could see how in a pinch some of these methods could be used but still with caution!!

  • @TheTexasSmoker --- you betcha, thanks for watching! =)

  • Reminds me of listening to some idiot with 3 fingers missing talking about how he used a pencil to hold the blade shield of his skill saw because it was faster. For your wife's sake, I hope you keep your fingers my friend. I've helped build houses enough to know some of the stuff you do is pretty common other stuff you do is reckless. After he realized he had lopped off his fingers, he jerked the saw back and sliced his leg open. All that time he saved and now he works 3X slower (no fingers).

  • @krisruddles --- Thanks man, I know what you mean...If you noticed, I've still got all mine!

But I watched my buddies innerds fall out all over a stack of lumber one day on a job way up in the mountains, miles from any help.

He was cutting rafters on a set of sawhorses when his skillsaw kicked back...His safety guard was pinned back and that darn saw ran up and split his fat belly open like a melon...

You got have respect for the tools or they'll teach you a lesson never to be forgotten!

  • a fool and his fingers are always seperated it may be today or some time in the near future.

  • @lgttb1 --- yep, I've seen it before...Had to pick up and put 'em in my pocket just to keep 'em warm.

    yeeoooch! lol =)

  • This is a good video if you want to see how to do something the wrong way. Besides a lack of safety there would be potential for something not being cut very precisely and it doesn't look like he cares about either.

  • @MrBEB123 --- lmao =) thanks bro..!

And I gotta tell ya, it's all just one big Blur too...I didn't even use my safety glasses much less my readers. lol

Too many years of slappin' sticks my friend, time for a change for sure...and you can take that to the bank!

  • Interesting. But, saw horses are way safer, are easily portable and not even expensive. So, why in the world would you do this exactly and risk getting hurt?

  • @BrightMint Ask any old framing wood butcher, they'll tell ya...Sometimes you just gotta do what ya gotta do. And sometimes when you're framing houses it's just plain faster. But look close, I still have all my fingers and toes. =)

  • This is all so unsafe.

  • @CJT714 yeah, I hear ya man...

After 25 years of framing houses and cutting wood with my eyes closed it's a wonder I've still got all my digits. Seen some real nasty mishaps over the years for sure. And you can take that to the bank! =)

  • I can say I've used all those techniques doing carpentry. . . Accept that one with the vertical support while doing a bevel cut (I like it!). I've also used other techniques I didn't see on the video. The foot thing has to be the #1 go-to way for most carpenters though. All in all, I prefer to work off the ground, on saw horses, like a white man. ;)

Good on ya for another good video Mitchell!

  • Ok, you're making me want to get my power tools out. It's been awhile since I made anything, other than the soft box lamps I recently built myself. ;)

I really enjoy your videos, you share the important details, tell us what's going on, keep it moving... yeah, you're great on camera and I always enjoy your vids.

    Thanks!

    Susanna
