  • Ah! one of the best nights of my music loving nights back in 1975, when I bought this with WeatherReports 'Tale Spinnin' I felt I had graduated. Didn't need any drugs at all. Consider yourself dead if you don't like this! (the tune I mean) ¦¬D

  • Nice jam, except for the drums. Sounds like he just discovered "the shuffle".

  • It doesn't get any better than Stanley Clarke on bass guitar...period

  • this guys good

  • Stanley, Larry & Louis.. Need I say moorre!!!

  • @MOJAMZ1

Sad thing is, Louis did not continue to evolve. Stanley and Larry are still relevant in 2010. Love those records that Louis hit on back in the day.

  • thud bomb!

  • this version sounds so good!

  • I got this record in 2002 for $2 in Kansas when i was like 18 and it changed the way i look at musi and Dj-ing!!

  • Heathrow by Level 42 sounds quite a bit like this

  • @kinshasaAPP Yeah it does. I checked it out and loved it, and the live version. My other favorite from level 42 is Turn It On

  • @heckto35 Jazz funk for the win, eh? :)

  • @kinshasaAPP Heck yeah man!

  • @kinshasaAPP Stanley Clarke was a very huge influence on Mark King and King never hide that… There are more Level42 tunes that have some kind of reference to stuff Stanley wrote…

  • @santibanks It's awesome!

  • @santibanks But we all should thank Larry Graham for the basic concept! If it weren't for hime, Stanley,Mark or Wooten probably wouldn't be as big of names as they are today!

  • Jaco IS a legend.

  • um dos sons mais bonitos do planeta. Ouço isso freqüentemente, há 34 anos, É o baixo mais bacana do mundo, uau....

  • I remember the first time I heard this Jam. Early 80's. My cousin turned me on to Mr. Clarke. He had a Carver receiver, Nakamichi cassette deck(auto reverse, the cassette came out flipped and went back in) and those Bose speakers (maybe six inches wide and 12 inches tall) but they blew your ears off. We had beverage of choice and "plants". Been a fan of Stanley ever since.

  • @8thmandchigh I have my album of this carefully stored away and had not heard this in years. I too had the desease of the ears & wallet starting back in the late 70's. I had a Phase Linear Preamp & 400 Powr Amp driving Infinity Quantum Reference II towers. I attribute this song (and others) to the ringing in my ears but what the hell it was great fun. A little wine, a little weed, good friends and great music.

  • when i bought this amazing solo album of Mr. Clarke & heard this first trk of Lopsy i jus went nuts over this incredible song!..GREAT! GREAT! FANTASTIC! album!

  • This cut was off the hook;everybody was jammin tough back then!!! Stanley was at his peak then no doubt about it!!!

  • jazz musicians are the best there is period

  • there was a live version of this one on youtube with clarke, corea, combham and ponty but i cant find it anymore :(

  • Yeah it was great somone must had removed or taken it off. It was a great version.

  • yea man.....tony is unreal.....so many ideas in one cut...raw, primative, instinctual,,,,and still so modern!!!!

  • To me this is one of the top 5 kick ass bass solos ever, better yet that it actually functions as a song.

  • I love the sound of the alembic bass.

  • Ok... I love the Ramones, but it is retard rock and should be compared to Stanley and crew.

  • Tony Williams could play with the Ramones. But he's dead. So are The Ramones.

The hardest thing about drumming is keeping a strong basic beat that young girls cream their silk panties to.

All the drummers mentioned here are my favorites you jazz/rock morons!

    Mary Xmas to you all!

    TBD

  • Not Billy Cobham on drums, but the late great Tony Williams giving an absolute *clinic* on how to play a 6/8 rhythm.

  • This album.... I got in '76 and it opened my mind to all kinds of music.

  • I bought it less than 3 hours ago. for less than 3 dollars :)

  • When I first heard of Stanley, i thought that he was just another bassist, with just another band. These guys are amazing. Stanley had amazing work on the bass, and I love how jan hammer plays the keyboards. great work by them all

  • Got to be one of my favourites, essential for 'desert islands, etc.

  • Greatest drummer ever, next to the Ramones drummers!

  • Ramones drummers?!?! Get real!!!! Billy Cobham, Lenny White, Tony Williams(May Peace Be Upon Him) and others I don't remember at the moment, were rocking the skins before those boys were a sperm in their dads nut sack!!!!! Please!!!!

  • There is no possible that Ramone would even be allowed in the same studio with Tony Williams, Billy Cobham or Lenny White. Just not even possible....LOL. First of all they would be far to technically skilled and know to many forms of music for Ramone.

These guys at least two of them are talked about as two of the best drummers ever in any genre. Come on now...........

  • @taxiboysdrummer erm.... nope. sorry man! haha

  • Apples and aircraft carriers.

  • Everybody on this track is SMOKIN'!!!

  • geil :)

  • Badd Dude!!

  • thanks man :D

  • I remember when this came out. it had that Hendrix/audacity

it changed the image of the bass and it gave to the world an alternative to jack bruce, ...

  • whenever i try to play keyboard i try to play like jan hammer in this song

  • you shouldn't, make up your own style

  • Big fan of the song and always will be. Great name choice to...

  • Yes, that's Jan Hammer alright. Bill Connors on guitar...I don't know where he went to.

  • Jan Hammer Synth???

  • It's Tony Williams' loose, explosive drumming that makes this tune so special....

  • agreed. it's so integral

  • funky monkey

  • Waaahnsinnnnnnn

  • Absolute master of the instrument. Complete control and accuracy. And a great songs too.

  • @TijucaWeirdo I agree, since I know this perform I've been searching similar artist... in vain! Incredible groove

  • @TijucaWeirdo Since I know this Stanley Clarke I'm searching for similar artist... In VAIN!!! Huge

  • @ilisvilikas Jaco Pastorius had the fluid to become a legend but unfortunately his life was cut short.
