robert has been a beast since he was a kid. I met him in High School. dude was cold and real cool. he was doing amazing bebop solos in HS. He's just doing music that he likes but believe me. the dude can play anything.
i think if you listen to the overall effect of the music...
i really dig robert glaspers trio stuff, mainly because of the wonderfull feeling thr goup make as one... you cant just judge a player on his or her chops... at the end of the day music is supposed to be feeling, not always maths...?
rob glasper is dope, period.... check him out playing some jazz/hip hop live with his band The Experiment... they were playing with mos def in houston and it was hot!

Robert Glasper is a really good player...a lot of potential to be a great name in all of Jazz. Right now, he plays everything in the same key with a lot of the same progressions in a lot of his songs. Once he is able to play songs in all keys and not rely so much on formulaic playing, he will be a great jazz name. But yea, his style and chording are definitely fresh....just needs more of an arsenal to really be that guy. Bless.
Same key...hmm Robert Glasper graduated from the New School where he played a lot of straight ahead jazz developing a complete original style from many amazing players. The stuff that your probably referring to is his latest hip hop, or trio stuff. Check out his straight ahead stuff. It will blow your mind.

I don't hear what all the fuss is about, a lot of chops but with tedious results. This performance is derivative of McCoy Tyner.

You have no absolutely no idea. Keep listening to more Glasper, he is really great.

can you name one thing that sounds like mccoy? He's not doing quartal voicings, pentatonic sliding, any of his trademark sounds.

I found one similarity, indeed. He plays piano too. :D
