HPU was my dream school for a long time & I was so happy when I got accepted & recieved a scholarship. I've been accepted to a few schools already & I'm trying to look up info like this to help me pick the best for me. This was helpful, thanks.
also, does anyone know the gpa requirement because the websight is pretty vauge, or if they dont know what theirs was when they got in. or if they went to community college in hawaii and then here and suggest that? thank you!:)
anyone who goes to HPU my dad went to hawaii and was looking at some colleges for me and said that they have some dolphin park...or some entertainment thing involving animals.. is this true? and does anyone know about their dissection rules like if someone HAS to dissect? thanks!
@StoriaCrissosa I don't know if you're allowed to or not, but if you're worried about people seeing inside your room, they look pretty opaque. Also, you don't wanna block out the sunshine:)
a lot of people on here are complaining on how expensive it is but really if you see how expensive colleges and universities at other states are its not that bad. i live in California and although a lot of people think i'm weird because i am highly considering going out of state ,since its supposed to be more expensive, this school is much less than my other options in California. some of the colleges that i would like to go to in CA are more than this university in Hawaii.
Money talks, and bullshit walks. This is a private university, which means bucks up. You must have a modicum of brains, but if you have the dough, you can get credentials without too much fuss and bother. The professors are about ten times better than UH Manoa, and so is the campus and social life. Definitely the place to be, but only if you're serious about converting your dough into a diploma.
okay so which dorm is the haunted dorm oh and i was just near there yesterday on wednesday i went with ipukukui group from kamehameha schools and we helped in the lo'i patch ho brah dat was like so fun
yeah i talked to an admissions counselor yesterday and they said the scores arent a major deciding factor in whether one gets accepted or not, but rather how what your schedual looks like and how involved you are in the community and extra curricular activities. they said they like 1100 on the SAT and 28 on the ACT though.

I live on Maui and spent my freshman year in these very dorms. The place is a sad excuse for what is considered an accredited university! I had classes on the downtown campus and had to take a shuttle to class every day to a campus that I would not even consider a college campus. The classrooms are surrounded with homeless people and it is scary! I transfered to the University of Hawaii Manoa- A REAL COLLEGE CAMPUS AND ATMOSPHERE!!!
"Rural" campus colleges are generally bigger than downtown college campuses (cost per square ft). HPU's history and mission is different from Manoa. If physical beauty is all you want than try the Mid-West colleges-the buildings are well kept inside out. If you compared teaching, tutoring and nurturing than private colleges win hands down vs public institutions that is how they keep their competitive edge. As for the homeless- which downtown doesn't have homeless? Best test: find a job after.
i live in colorado but have family in honolulu so i was wanting to go to college in hawaii. i personally think these dorms are terrible compared to ones here in colorado. are the dorms at UHM any better? can anyone reply with a link to a video of UHM's dorms or any pictures? also what are my options with living off campus?
To be fair, HPU is NOT a campus university, the Loa dorms (video) were inherited when they merged with Loa college in '92. With the coming 70 million expansion it will change. If you are looking for 5 star digs, like most students, then off campus shared housing is best for either HPU or UHm (call the college housing for info). However, choose your program wisely-HI college experience is very "unique" and cannot be compared to CO/MidWest. Good Luck!
i have looked at the dorms for UH at manoa and they are pretty good (much newer)! do you know if HPU's dorms will be updated within the next two years? either way i know i will be going to college in hawaii. i have lots of family down there both in honolulu and in hilo and i'm pretty much getting sick of the cold and snow...its 17 degrees and snowing today...so hopefully i'll be down there soon!
It is good that you have actually seen some of the remodeled dorms; my cousin who spent many years at UHmanoa said they badly needed it (especially with all the state cuts). She preferred living off campus close to Waikiki. I doubt if new dorms will be ready at Loa in 2 years but I could be surprised!
I really didn't like it at all. They really need to do something about the dorms there. Well, they needed to in 2000. They don't really look any different now.

I live in New York, where its still snowing and its almost april lol, so its going to be a big change.
But I was wondering, and this might seem like a really random question, but are we allowed to hang curtains in those long ass windows??

@Agentseaturtle haha this school is pretty easy to get into. just join a bunch of clubs, do community service, and have an awesome class schedule. :)

chaminade has the view of the backside of waikiki and diamond head plus some of downtown honolulu. its nice.

Isn't the Chaminade campus shared and heavily used by a high school and also probably owns the property upon which Chaminade is situated?

Question: Is the dorms co-ed?
-Sabrina
Novatone 4 years ago
Hey Hey Novatone!
Yes, these dorms are co-ed. The first floor would be girls, second floor would be guys, and third floor would be girls.
Some combination of that, but each floor is a gender.
=D have fun at the dorms when you come!
