  • I cant get up in the morning until i've listened to this song.

  • Took the fireworks (letting off the happiness), and the vanity (fevers and mirrors), the circuit board (digital ash in a digital urn) and the city streets (I'm wide awake it's morning), shooting stars swaying palm trees (cassadaga) laid it at the arbiters feet (the people's key). It's all his album covers.

  • @MrToadRocks

    that's genius!

  • @MrToadRocks No, it's just some of them. There is no mention of "Lifted: or the story is in the soil, keep your ear to the ground".

  • Wow only 13 stupid people have watched this video out of the

    264,226, that is quite amazing:]]]

  • I am so happy for you Conor!

  • here's some more artful misery from some irish boys

    /watch?v=sFhZBIrHtBo

  • @MrOllieRobs i like it :)

  • waahhhhaha, stop making my cry ;')

  • Death obsessed like a fat girl...

  • Very much love this song now thanks to my boyfriend Phil One of our road trip songs

  • perhaps he is. but i doubt it.

  • I love this song:) I could listen to it all day <3

  • @brighteyesband this might be one of my most favorite Bright Eyes songs, if not simply because it's great, but also for the meta first verse. Thank you for all your wonderful music throughout the years, it's hard to believe it's almost been a year since this video's release.

  • When Conor cant sleep he thinks about his perfectly balanced natal chart and his moon in Aquarius.

  • gostei ;)

  • The Lyrics are brilliant, just like every song by bright eyes. They've changed so much over the years, and they're still amazing.

  • man, lots of illuminati symbolism.

  • @leraginasian ? My Guru has stated that Bright Eyes was "Enlightened" and all evidence to me suggests this, but are you implying that he is a member of the illuminate?

  • for the most part, I don't care for Bright Eyes, but this is a good tune.

  • can't get enough of this song aaaaahhhhhhh

  • This album is so fucking good. <3

  • "... for the every man, blessed Sisyphus, slipping steadily into madness, now that's the only place to be free". I think we're all mad, until we realize that we are. And that's when we realize it's all just an inside joke, no one will explain it. It's just the lizard that bites not the architects.

  • death obsessed like a teenager :)

  • Love how it shows the band coming together like a reunion of old friends for another jam :)

  • @skers316 haha, same. Exams and a project due tomorrow.

  • :')

  • Replay button is getting a lot of action tonight :)

  • I prefer the old stuff but I still love them. <3

  • I need to do homework.. but all I wanna do is listen to Connor Oberst!!

  • Come check out our new music video on our page!

  • Great live!

  • This band is my reason for living <3

  • I feel like if I keep listening to The People's Key I'll start to like it more... but Bright Eyes' older shit just holds too much of a place in my heart

  • Laura Berhenn rocks my socks. <3

  • 11 people don't know what a shell is . . .

  • The only language I speak is Bright Eyes

  • Check back in 30 years

  • @garbomoray- Dylan was and is a huge influence on Bright Eyes/Conor Oberst. That's odvious. Dylan never plagiarized anyone. He came from a folk music tradition where it was expected that you borrow a line or tune and then turn it into something completely original. The same can be said for Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen and many others. Led Zepplin completely plagiarized almost Willie Dixson's entire catalogue. Maybe in about 30 yrs. Conor Oberst is amazing, but nowhere bear Dylan. Check back in 3

  • My private life is an inside joke.. And no one will explain it to me. He speaks my language.. All to well.

  • great great great

  • THE greatest song writer of this generation!

  • this is my favorite song with the word "oscilloscopes" in it

  • @EricNathanielMusic Touché, sir. What an excellent observation.

  • And thus is why you should not do acid

  • @brighteyes256 why?

  • @MrTredwell Yeah but, at least with Conor its legal, and not, you know... really fucked up.

  • I feel like I'm listening to someone else's song. Like Bob Dylan.

  • @YngwiesDaughter13 Oh thats funny. You know what's even funnier? Dylan just got busted plagiarising Henri Cartier-Bresson, Leon Busy and Dmitri Kessel, TO NAME A FEW. How do your own words taste? Dylan WISHES he was Oberst.

  • @GarboMoray

Wow... I meant it as a compliment jackass.

  • JUSTIN BIEBER GETS LAID MORE THAN YOU?

  • I got thrown out of the Las Vegas show on The Cosmopolitan rooftop because when Connor didn't understand why no one was in the pool I proceeded to get in it. I wasn't the only one to be removed. My friend Caleb was in there too and was asked to leave. Billy Martin was the only one of us who managed to stick around for the whole show. However, being able to see all the hidden passageways throughout the Cosmo really wasn't all that awful. Try and catch me next time. ZippadeeDoooDaaDayyyyyeeOOooOh.

  • sleepology.bandcamp.com IF YOU LIKE BRIGHT EYES CHECK THIS BAND OUT

  • Conor Oberst is a musical genius.

  • @demiarchh Don't forget about Mike Morgis!

  • manic highs, depressed lows. trying to explore your mind with these chemicals searching for whatever the exists that can bring peace. btw... the 'pomegranates' are more of huge blaring light orbs with simplistic personalities... but the creations they make... yea sorta like pomegranates.

  • the psychedelics gota end eventually........ IMO I think conor finally found some semblance of peace and at some point with dmt finally had that real epiphany.... and realized its time to keep moving because nothing is meant to be static, ever. idk, the last album feels so much like a tribute not just to the fans at large but with all the insanely specific descriptions that only those who have experienced these would understand... lol machine spiritual it is indeed.

  • "My private life is an inside joke and know one will explain it to me" Hahaha, genius

  • <3

  • @1:31 KURT COBAIN!

  • i love bright eyes. i'll never stop listening. ever.

  • My brother introduced me to these guys and i have loved every single note of every song by them ever sence. Amazing.

  • If I was talended enough to create music, I wish it sounded like this.

  • i believe conor has met dimitri :)

  • Nice work. Dreamy ending. Like the campfire too. Soft and powerful. BIG FAN!!!

  • I like this it reminds me of early Jezabels in some ways but then it's got it's own thing happenin can't really say what it is maybe soul assylum maybe bright eyes

  • love the song! the production is kinda dark though, I can't see shit

  • Sounds a little Queen-esque imo.

  • Fucking love the random monkey at the end of the music video (mainly because I didn't notice him before)

  • Fucking amazing. This is my second time hearing it and I'm in love.

  • Bright Eyes do 80s pop-rock... I dig it.

  • ten people have button dyslexia

  • كونور oberst

  • At first I thought he was making out with a wall

  • @emorocker897 your name is emorocker...

  • @vulvie Lmfaoooo like times a million

  • @vulvie this is what i call an EPIC win

  • my private life is an inside joke. no one will explain it to me

  • a la gente que no les guste este grupo esta mal de su cabeza enverdad tienen problemas

  • AWW.[/]hermosaa rola!!.[/]

  • this is more than a song. the album as a whole is an awakening/enlightening for all of us. im so glad to see the time of love and peace is coming, signs are all among us. and i thank bright eyes for their share in the awakening period <3 i love you all!

  • I'm seeing them with the Mountain Goats on thursday xD

  • @Paradigm6790 i don't like mountain goats much but i'm jealous? wierd!

  • @Paradigm6790 seeing them with the mountain goats tonight. way more excited about the mountain goats actually

  • @ruma17 I saw them with the mountain goats last thursday. Best concert I've ever been to. You won't be disappointed. Both have excellent stage presence and great music. John Darnielle of the Mountain goats is a witty motherfucker on stage.

  • @Paradigm6790 I just saw them last night with the mountain goats and I couldn't agree more. It was amazing

  • @Paradigm6790 Both were incredible. John was cracking me the fuck up during his set

  • @ruma17 4reals?

  • ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

SHUT UP AND ENJOY THE MUSIC!

    ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

  • such an awesome song!!!

  • I wonder what it's like being one of the best writers of our time. Do you think he is aware of it?

  • "my private life is an inside joke, and no one will explain it to me" great fucking quote

  • Conor definitely has moved on--think about his "solo" work (Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band) and then listen to this--his whole style has changed and developed away from what I'd call Bright Eyes--and that's perfectly fine. It's not like he's not making music, his music has just developed out of A Perfect Sonnet, Lua, and Lover I don't have to Love.

Am I sad Bright Eyes is done? I'm sad because it was great music, but glad Bright Eyes will always be Bright Eyes and nothing else.

  • @GeorgeMaj15

    Very well said, sir.

  • i'm really sad this is the last bright eyes album.

  • @imtimjames Whhhaaaatttt!?!??!

  • @cletoryss Yeah i think he announced that before he released this album. but i think he is still going to make music, probably just under another new project. I think it would be soooo awesome if he did another album for desaparecidos though

  • @imtimjames We can only hope

  • saw them at T in the park least week, best band of the lot.

  • They absolutely rocked this song when I saw them a couple months ago. It was an amazing concert!

  • Is it just me or does this remind of an 80's alt-rock song? And then at 3:00 he starts ding dong doing The Robert Smith.

  • @MoneyKur I watched an interview once where Conor said he used to listen to The Cure when he was growing up, so some inspiration may have come from there....

and yeah I thought it was a bit more 80's on first listen.

  • @aperfectsonnet123 haha ya he even dances like the cure

  • was yesterday at their concert :D :D it was great!

  • 7 People dont know Music :'c

  • funny to hear conors voice improving through the years

  • Mike Mogis looks like such a dude! haha

  • @sharkbyte08 Mike Mogis is a player, lol

  • Fire DO walk with me.

  • FUCKING FADE TRANSITIONS! :<

  • Lol anyone else get the video bout cute lil bunnies when they looked up bright eyes?

  • here it come that heavy love

  • Seeing them in four days. Might explode.

  • Tunes Award Winner 2011

  • Saw these guys play Saturday night. Simply amazing concert!

  • Conor Oberst, lyrical genius. I'm just sad this is his last album with Bright Eyes

  • @Watchingsounds Yeah, but this is a pretty good note to end on.

  • I had NO idea this had been released as a single but its definitely my favourite from the new album.

  • I love these guys. if my heart could sing, it would sound like these guys!!!

  • @rockintheshoebox or like job for a cowboy

  • Simply epic. I freakin love this shit!

  • @sunhoney1

I'm perfectly content with not having a life thank you, however since it concerns you so, maybe you should consider getting one... I mean no one who creates fake YouTube usernames to make it appear as though there is strength in numbers can actually say they have ' a life '

    Godspeed and goodbye.

  • why don't you guys stop fighting and enjoy the blissful quiver of conner's voice please thanks

  • omg. get a life already both of u. y do u care what I think? idc what u say yr crazyism is more than I can take, y don't u find a place 2 level out & chill man?

  • "I'm still angry with no reason to be at architect who imagined this, for the every man blessed sisyphus--slippin' steadily into madness, now that's the only place to be free."

    Albert Camus? Anyone? Maybe not.

  • @EasyG53 That's what I was thinking of too - I guess I'm not sure what Conor's views of existentialism/nihilism are.

  • @EasyG53 Also: "I'm never going to move it alone.."

it: the rock? Metaphor for life?

  • @fouss14 ohhhhh yeahhhhh, nice. =D

  • This is a man who can write music. He has effectively ruined every other musician for me over the past couple of years.

  • @DisenchantedMyChem Same here.

  • Comment removed

  • @sunhoney1 What's wrong with children enjoying his music?

  • Comment removed

  • @EasyG53 Nothing if they're in fact listening, it's enlightening and expands ones mind.

  • @sunhoney1 No sir, people like you are what 'sucks about Bright Eyes today'. What's the point in being an elitist? We're all listening to the same music (even if for different reasons) and we're all going to die. Just because someone's barely pubescent doesn't mean they can't listen to good music. Because music, unlike people, doesn't believe in any isms. Including that of age. So shut up and let the people listen.

  • Comment removed

  • @Ix3britishboys12 Here's an ism for you. INTELLECTUAL.

  • @sunhoney1 I don't understand why you deleted your original comment. Anyway, who are you to judge anyone in any way? You're not God. And by calling someone unintelligent you aren't being an 'intellectual', because a true 'intellectual' wouldn't be able to call someone stupid from 1 youtube comment nor would they result to name-calling instead of just trying to get their point across (no matter how wrong others may think that point is). So maybe the person who needs to grow up here isn't me.

  • @Ix3britishboys12 I didn't delete my comment??? Nor did I judge anyone or call myself "God"??. Where did I call you 'stupid'? You proved my point by running out of words and relying on the typical "shut-up" response the last time I talked to you little Justin Bieber.

  • @sunhoney1 So you're telling me that the E-mail youtube sent me saying you said "@britishboys12 My whole point was the entire comment base is on his looks! That's not listening to music. That's whishing thinking. Telling me to shut up is proof you're one of them so here's an "ism" for you, intellectual. Consider being one. Conor grew up, maybe someday you will as well" was completely fabricated? What exactly does being "one of them" entail? And why are you creating fake usernames to attack me?

  • @Ix3britishboys12

sunhoney1 is obviously the equalitarian here. if u look at her channel... I'm a subscriber.. and you young sir are the elitist.

sunhoney1 was offended by what appeared to be an attack on Conor Oberst's sudden loss of youth i.e. "agism" since you are so fond of the use of ism's.

That was in sunhoney1's mind elitist behavior I assume? It is in mine.

    Beiber lmao.

  • @Ix3britishboys12 Shut up? Oh that's brilliant proof of your age. The ism is about Conor Oberst the discusiion is not about his music it's agism, get it? Whose the elitist now? We're all going to die??? Where did that come from? Further proof of your age for sure, emo stands for emotive hardcore. Stop crying. Bright Eyes is not "emo" and Conor is not writing about dying here. Why don't you stop typing and read what some of the adults have to say about the lyrics?

  • @TheAnyaray I'm sort of confused. Was this comment directed towards me? Because I never called Conor Oberst Emo.... When I said "we're all going to die" it was me saying that we're all human.. If you had read her original post you would have seen that she said that she hates when "children" listen to certain music and only comment on things like looks. That is ageism. That is not Egalitarianism* which is what you meant when you said equalitarianism which isn't a word.

    Postscript: how old am I?

  • @TheAnyaray I didn't mention his lyrics in any way.. All I said was to let the kids enjoy their music. Just because someone might be 12 years old doesn't mean they HAVE to listen to Justin Bieber or Hannah Montana. And by saying "Why don't you stop typing and read what some of the adults have to say about the lyrics?" you're descriminating against me based on (what you percieve to be) my age. Which is ageism. If a kid says "omg he looks so different" that's not ageism. It's an observation.

  • When I first listened to this cd I was a little disappointed, but the more I listen to it the more it grows on me. I love it now, especially this song and Beginners mind. Conor never fails to impress me

  • I love people's key but to me nothing can beat Letting off the Happiness

  • @IonicDistortion I dunno, "I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning" was pretty golden...

  • I do have to say I dont care what he looks like, I would wreck that.

  • why do bright eyes fans act like they all know every drug conor oberst has ever done? how do you know if he even smokes bud much less if he's a crackhead or something. lyrics are just that

  • I always found he looked like a boy, if anything now he looks more his age, but still young for where he's been

  • He works a lot... Furthermore, It is likely that he has abused questionable substances... causing him to age quicker than someone not as cool.

  • i love the artisticness of this video. the part that i loved the most was at the end when they zoomed in on the piano. this earns 100 rockintheshoebox points

  • I Love this song :D

  • CONOR IS A BEAST

  • love this song sooooooooooooo much.. best song on the album in my opinion. i like that he never directly states the meaning to any of his songs and is talented enough to create lyrics that can apply to anything. "here it come that heavy love, tattooed on a criminals arm"---- soooooo creative and awesome!!!!!!! <33333
