No, it was originally planned for Clooney to sing the song himself, until they heard him sing and decided to get someone who wasn't tone deaf. So they got an established country singer, Dan Tyminski, to dub it.

Bluegrass has its origins in the 1940's.

The Soggy bottom boys version uses different melodies and some different lyrics. Originally it was 'goodbye to Colorado' rather than 'goodbye to old Kentucky'
