I love these guys! They came to my hometown when I was like 6 or 7 and I went to see them, fantastic show, plus it was my first concert! I had a blast even at that age, loving their music. I never knew that The Beatles were the original writers of this song because I heard this version first. Their version is ok but Paul McCartney performs it much better nowadays with his current band cause he has a lot more energy. But this version is epic! EWF really added something special to the song.
The only good Beatles cover in the whole assinine "St Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band" Movie in 1978 man that movie blew chunks but EWF's part was epic.
I've tried to nail down who is playing guitar on this track, but it's hard to pinpoint. I'm not convinced that it's NOT Larry Carlton because he was one of several guitar players involved in the SPLHCB Sountrack. However, it's more likely to be Michael Beal. Strange that it's such a "mystery"! The guitar track BURNS! and you'd think that it would be more widely known who was playing it!?
@PascualMercury - It is in fact Al McKay (leading) and Jonny Graham playing with Verdine on bass. Check out the original video of the film - 1978's musical Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band starring the Bee Gees.
Could this be the only remake that is better than the original? There is so much tension in the intro and it is finally released with that EWF joy in the do do do's. This song is pure happiness.
Was the guitarist -at 2:22- part of the group ?? (this was at the Hall Of Fame if I'm not mistaken...) I am not talking about Verdine White, but of the guitarist juming...
Seems to me like it would rather be guitarist Roland Bautista, who was part of Earth,Wind & Fire in 1973 and then from 1981 to 1983...but I'm not sure,though...it might also be Al McKay, like the other (@CapLockFreak) already told you... both are light skinned...(and both are guitarists...)
The picture at 1:45 is from the rock and roll hall of fame ( I was there), the picture at 2:22 is from the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony (concert) Vadim Zilberstein is the guitar player's name.
O.K. ... then its neither Al McKay, nor Roland Bautista, like some comments pretended... I think that you are the one who is right ... (if it would have been McKay or Bautista, I would have recognized them...) Thank you.

On second thought, I think it might be Al McKay like mentioned below. He sure is good and VERY Larry Carlton like indeed.
