William the Conqueror was the perfect example of a medieval king and is unjustifiably judged through modern eyes rather than the period which he existed. He was a just and capable ruler that knew how to maintain the loyalty of the barons around him. He retained many Anglo-Saxon customs and brought order to England. William the Conqueror and Henry II are probably two of the most historically mistreated monarchs in English history.
