The reason for 4 tracks dates back to when District line trains travelled to Hounslow as well as Piccadilly.
Nowadays the former District line track travelling towards London is used as a test track / not for passenger trains, whilst the other track is used to help regulate train services, as seen here.
One of the trains seen here is going to Heathrow airport, whilst the other is only going as far as Northfields depot, and with two tracks available the latter will not delay the former.
This isnt rush hour! They should do a video at 08:30 on a weekday when the platform is full from front to back and you miss about 4 trains trying to get on one!
lol i was replying to a question about when the 73 stock trains were refurbished! Still good to know what London's suburbs were like before i was born though!
yes but it was a suburban station to which people travel, and it was filmed from the far end of the train (ie; not near the station / platform exit). Oh, and also, this was filmed near the end of the rush hour when the majority of people travelling straight home from work would have already passed through this station.
Finally, this station is quite close to another station (Northfields) so it is not one of the busiest.
What year was this clip filmed it was certainly before all 1973 tube stock was refurbished in a dvd on the piccadilly line i saw the interiors of the refurbished stock and it features longitudinal seating throughout compared to what they were like before
Sorry, but I do not know... I assume that it has something to do with visibility (ie: railway staff working on or near the tracks seeing them approaching), although nowadays they all have red fronts, not just red bands!
re: the need to ask, well they like it but I rarely did. However you MUST NOT use a tripod, as this is a safety risk. Also, you must not enter areas closed to passengers.
They are not keen on people filming in the rush hour but if you keep out of the way of passengers then they will have less of a reason to be irritated by a person with a camera. Also, no flashguns. Never!
As for new films, I have no plans at present but do not rule it out for the future.
It doesn't look like this video was made later than 1990 - the 65 bus going across the bridge is red, but from January 1991 Armchair operated the 65 using orange and white Leyland Olympians, and by the time the route passed to London United (June 2002), all of the Piccadilly Line's 1973 stock had been refurbished and repainted into today's white, blue and red livery.
the look of that train scares me, whenever I'm on LU I usually use the Northern, District and Central lines...lived in LDN all my life and I don't think I've ever used the Piccadily!
Not to much of a Rush going on at Rush Hour... looks more like sleepy hour... Come om mate get some major rush hours in like Waterloo or Victoria tube..
dont recall exact date (and its probably noy written on the tape cassette cover) but probably from the early to mid 1990's, as thats when I was filming a lot.
I practically grew up on this station! I remember waiting for hours once to see one of the 15 trains of 1938 stock that the Piccadilly Line had in the days when it was mostly 1959 stock and the line terminated at a very countrified Hounslow West!
Not to mention the raised walkway between South Ealing & Northfields that existed for many years! and the abandoned platforms of the original Osterley station.
I use to live like 3 streets away from this station back in 79

I much prefer the old white and red livery. Especially on the D stock. Disappointed that it was replaced.

If Chris tucker or Jackie Chan would'of walked of the tube, then i would of understood why you called it rush hour! but there's no one there!!!!!
swat006007 1 year ago
@swat006007
but this is a suburban station and in the evenings passengers travel TO here, so between trains it will look empty!
citytransportinfo 1 year ago
Why were they both going the same way? Did the piccadilly ever have fast and slow trains just like the metropilitan?

I bought the camcorder in December 1989 and therefore this would have been filmed in the early 1990's.
Thats all I can say / I did not keep notes of dates of filming things.

@newsmaniaingaidai - a rush hour at South Ealing isn't the same as a rush hour at Oxford Circus.
BartBassist 2 years ago
Rush hours are much worse than this video, i dont why the poster called it rush hour..
QuevilleWilderness 2 years ago
it was filmed at a station in a residential area towards the end of the evening rush hour - at this time of day the crowds are in Central London,
Therefore, at this station you will mostly see passengers alighting from trains.
But, come here in the morning and you will see crowded platforms with passengers trying to get to work on time.
citytransportinfo 2 years ago
why do they need 2 stations so close - south ealing and northfields?

Pre-Refurbishment. The LU trains were mostly made like that before the 1992 stock came into production.

Oh no much earlier I know this because the 65 bus that goes past at 0:18 is a red metrobus and Armchair took over the route in 1991.
