It's 6 minutes cause it was made for DJ's to play....You must be a young one or just have no clue why a track is this long. Kids these days need to learn the history of true old school hip hop & DJ culture.
My days at James Monroe High School in The Bronx in the 10th grade. Thanks for posting this joint. It's a response to both The Pee Wee Herman and The Fila.
I remember this joint from 1987- word up! We used to have sore necks for days doing the Whop at the Stae office Building on 125th St in Harlem, The Rooftop and at every blockparty in between. Ahh, this was when Hip-Hop was fun, safe and EVERYBODY could enjoy listening to the same songs WITHOUT being offended. Now we got the Soulja Boi? Teach me how to Dougie? Ha, those are NOT dances, the Whop was a dance that took skills! Watching a hot girl do the Whop was so fly!!!!
Hadn't heard this jam since I left New York.....much love to WBLS 107.5 and WRKS (98.7 KISS).....RIP Frankie Crocker.....and much love to Mister Magic, Marley Marl, Chuck Chillout, Kool DJ Red Alert.....Bed Stuy, Money Makin' Manhattan, and the place where Hip Hop was born......Boogie Down Bronx
Man! I've been looking for this jam for 23yrs!!!!! I used to tear this shit up at the club back in the day. Good times, good memories and good fun. Love it!
RUNDMC, KURTIS BLOW, FAT BOYS, WHOUDINI, SUGAR HILL GANG,. GRANDMASTER FLASH & the FURIOUS 5, UTFO, ROXANNE SHATE, FUNKY 4 PLUS 1, & a few more were all out before B. FATS,
When this song came out I was 16 and my ladyfriend was 27. Yeah I was a TRUE player ya'll! Man I remember making love to her off this song. I used to woppit on dat azz! LOL
You tube is the shit you find songs you haven't heard in a longtime or cant even find in a music store or online damnnn!!!!....This was the shit back then at house parties miss those days.
Maaan! I never liked songs based on a dance, but this wuz my shiiiznit. Jazzy Jay spinnin' this track at Bronx River Community Center had the crowd wildin'! AND it's STILL my favorite dance to this day! You can keep that Chicken Noodle Soup, or whatever's happenin' now!
That beat is so dope!!!! I can listen to this over and over and it won't get old. I found this on a rap masters record I recently got, why isn't this more popular????
I remember this song when my boys and I try to learn the dance before going to union square in NYC (with Fake ID's for the chinaman). One of my boys got his chain taken that night! Then came home and tried to master the dance at about 5am in the mornin. SWEET! This is when I had no bills this music should be therapy for all old heads.
i can barely remember this song, but i do The Wop (the Hype, the Fila, the Cabbage Patch, the Scooby, etc)... the beat is similar to Tramp (Salt-N-Pepa) and Straight from the Soul (Finesse & Synquis)... can someone PLEASE upload a clear version of "Straight from the Soul"???? i'm beggin' dammit... thank you

yeah, i bet it played in boston too, but some OTHER tunes that i ALWAYS heard in NY, but NEVER in Las Vegas were:
gordy's groove - fresh gordon
set it off - strafe
girls (inst) - the b-boys
johnny the fox (inst) - tricky tee
the man marly marl - " "
&
suppresto - malcom mc laren
the west coast just doesn't seem to like east coast stupid fresh b-boy tunes other than "atomic dog" & "jam on it"
Boston is right next to NY, so you were getting REAL hip-hop back in the day. the west coast HATES it
dubhippy 1 year ago
Ya it sure ws played i Boston ... Everyone one was woppin to this when the song came on lol.
