  • We are already in an advance lesson, though, I wanna ask few questions regarding the devanagari... I noticed that da, dha, na, ta, tha can be written in two ways. Which of the two is commonly used? Does it make any difference if I will be using the other way when writing "NA" in NAMASTE... thanks a lot...

  • @skydipper1712 Hi, I think there is only one way to write things. It depends on which sound you want to write. For example "na" in "namaste" will always be the same "na". नमस्ते will always start with न. द and ध are different characters used for two different sounds. It is important to learn to differentiate between "da" , "dha", "Da" and "Dha". I mean there should no be confusion as there never are two ways of writing the same sound. There are only different sounds written differently.

  • @CrazyLassi, thanks for that clarification... maybe the lesson that i've had was trying to emphasize on "na" and "Na" that is why I got confused... actually the mentor mentioned "there are two ways to write "t", "th", "d", "dh", and "n"... that's when I got confused... but it's clear to me now... thanks a lot...

  • Namaste. How much do speakers use shubh ratree, suprabhaat etc? After reading Rupert Snells Hindi bookd he makes these sound like awkward foreign influenced phrases that 'real' Hindi speakers don't use. Are they common enough or on the rise?

  • @nagagaruda Namaste! Usually Indians use English phrases in their daily talk, but some use Hindi ones, especially in the rural areas. Although today's Hindi has about 30% of English in it, it is always a good idea to know the original Hindi expressions too.

  • shukriya :)

  • I have a friend from Gudrat who likes cotti Rolls. He told me in certain parts of India cotti rolls are also known as Franky's. I am not sure, but I think cotti rolls are popular in Northern India and not in Southern India. Did you ever ride in one of those cool cars - the Hidustan Amby?

  • Shukria for posting this. If you come to New York City I will take you out for a Frankie.

  • @RedQNZ You're welcome. What's a Frankie?

  • I am from Venezuela and I just get married with a Pakistani woman and I would like to know my wife family. What's the best way to lean Hindi fast? thank u so much

  • @azael1922 I think that people in Pakistan speak Urdu, which is same like Hindi but written in Persian script. If your wife speaks Hindi though, I would advise you to buy these books:

"Teach Yourself Beginner's Hindi Script" (by Rupert Snell) / There is a book for Urdu script too

"Teach Yourself Hindi" CD pack (by Rupert Snell) (They have 2 versions, one is for beginner's, one is for everyone)

  • @CrazyLassi Pakistanis speak Persian and Pashto

  • @411dedrick Then, who speaks Urdu?

  • @azael1922 Also there are more links on Hindi learning resources on my blog (check the HOT LINKS on the side)

  • @CrazyLassi. Thank you for replying. I fine your video helpful. Thanks.

  • Are SOME of these words Urdu??

  • @santoshiful Yes, actually. Spoken Hindi is identical to spoken Urdu.

  • @CrazyLassi

What is the difference between Spoken Hindi and Hindustani(I think its the language of hindi movies)

  • @pascoesvale I don't really know the difference as, as far as I know, both are same. Hindustani is a language of Hindustan (Pakistan and India). Hindustani describes the language spoken in a certain North Indian region. However after the partition appeared two languages: Urdu and Hindi, instead of Hindustani. There are still millions of crazy debates going on about what is Hindi and what should they call it. So from my point of view, Hindustani is an old name of Hindi.

  • @pascoesvale Hindi that is spoken in Hindi movies is called "simplified Hindi" or, you can say, "spoken Hindi", as well as Hindi that is used in papers, news and political talk shows. The "difficult" Hindi is used to write novels. However, I think, we should understand both.

  • Very useful for me. THANK YOU

  • @cakersau You're welcome! Happy to hear that!

  • @haloboy996 Ma and next is Ta

  • I am not concerned with eritten technicalities. I am sure my friend will forgive my pronunciation since I am not indian. Which by the way reminds me. Are Indians allowed to marry non Indians? thanks

  • @PrayerCoach Are Indians allowed to marry non-Indians??? ARe you for real? Why wouldn't they be allowed to marry whoever they want? I think you are confusing India with Pakistan. India is the largest democracy in the world... Yes they usually have arranged marriages but because this is culture and they want to. These stories of forced marriages usually happen in areas of little or no education and they are in the minority. I'm Irish and my husband is Indian and there has never been an issue!

  • Great work thanks a lot it improved my hindi a lot :)

  • CrazyLassi, most Hindi grammar books I have found immediately switch to Devanagari characters after the first two or three chapters...as I am having difficulty mastering the script, I have pretty much given up my attempt to learn Hindi on my own. Your videos help a bit as you use Latin-script transliterations.

  • सुनाइए sunaiye when it ye we write ए and not ye at end its always ए

बहुत ख़ुशी हुई it is bahut khushi hui you have written bahuut khuushi huui

मुझे this is mujhey you wrote muuujhey

शुभ its shubh you wrote shuubh

    शुक्रिया shukriya you wrote shookriya

and yes and no is not ji haan and ji nahin it haan na/nahi and you did not use the small u all you used is long uu everywhere! and these are the mistakes in thise vidoe

  • @deepam08 Yes, I wrote "oo" instead "of "u". OK fine, we'll remake the videos. Thanks and keep correcting the mistakes!

  • At 1:24 what letter(s) is used for the second syllable of "Raatree" I don't see anything representing a "t"

  • @canaan1967 raatri it is tra used no t + ra but a different letter tra which is t+ra and written like त्र
