My Lao friends at northeast of Thailand said they don't want to be Lao and don't call them Laotian. They just know their forefather was Lao but it's not necessary now because the word "Lao" doesn't provide any opportunity for their lives.

โหผมคนอีสานครับ พูดอีสาน เคยมีคนมาว่าให้ว่าผมลาวผมยังโกรธเลย คำว่าลาวถ้าใครมาเรียกถือว่าหยาบคายมากครับ เพราะลาวที่ใช้ในไทย มีความหมายว่า คนชั้นต่ำ ขี้ข้าหรือว่าคนหน้าเหี้ยเท่านั้นครับ พูดง่ายๆคือ ยกตัวอย่างเช่น ไอ้หน้าลาว ก้แปลว่าไอ้หน้าโง่ หน้าเหี้ยก้จะเรียกว่าหน้าลาว อีขี้ข้า เราก้มักจะเรียกว่า ไอ้ลาว ครับ

My Lao friends at northeast of Thailand said they don't want to be Lao and don't call them Laotian. They just know their forefather was Lao but it's not necessary now because the word "Lao" doesn't provide any opportunity for their lives.

@vieng1able I live in isan. Isan means" northeast" region, I knew the history, but It is nonsense to back to Lao. Now I am happy to be Thai, The people of Thailand. My anchesters were Lao, I am the sixth generation, I was born in Thailand so now I am Thai, if I was born in USA or France, I would be American or Fench like some of Laos there. In Thailand I can see the sea shore, I can go to every parts of the country or abroad. My children are well-educated.

Before the Laoland both left and right wasn't divided, the Laoland call "Meaung Lao ." This was happening in1893 to 1904 when Mek Num kong has divided. Your generation has not yet to live there for 6 generations. Esan was named when Thai Sa Yarm captured Viengchanth in 1828 when Chao Anou tried to free Laos both left and right of Mekong River.

With Lao government, Lao Isan is able maintaining to speak Lao language. It is how some people like that because the parents praised their children too much or they go to school has been teaching them, so when they grow up, they don't know who they are talking about. i beleived the history is true, that's how there are 3 heads elephant in laos flag. now a day laos left over only 1 head, population of lao other than chinese and vietnamese proably only about 3 millions peoples, these peoples remain because they ran away to jungle during thailand invade vientiane during chao anou reign the country. this is what lao history i had learned in school in the few decades ago. i am not against any body, just saying what i personally beleive guys.

Lost Laos i dont think so. I grew up in prachinburi. Im half THAI/LAOS and proud of it. I was borned as a prince, my great grandfather is King Ramkamhaeng. THAIS/LAOS people are the true people of THAIS/LAOS hiritage not those BKK people. I missed my home ban Sang. I hope one day we can unite.

we should learn history as the lesson to protect and improve our motherland. don't ask for anything back because it's impossible. by the way, the emerald buddha was not first created in laos and was moved to many locations, ended at siam. i always pay respect the the lord emerald buddha when i go to see my relatives in bangkok. we lao over the world must be united to enhance our country .

Xieng Tung in Cambodia was a part of the Lao Kingdom at one point. You are confusing current nation-states with past un-bounded territories that use to belong to Kings, not nations. You cannot stand here in 2009 and say that "so and so was KHMER LANDS because its in CAMBODIA today".
Look bro, there's many places that were once considered "Lao lands" and many places once considered "Khmer lands". They've all switched rule, they all had their share of powerful Kingdoms. History is history.
