  • Cat: After you leave , I will eat them

  • Simple: The cat was a mommy who wanted babies, the dog had babies she didn't want. The cat took the babies and both got what they wanted. Humans do it all the time, it's adoption.

  • outstanding. thanks for posting.

    take care

  • peace harmony and understanding? wtf i have a cat and a dog and they never fight infact my cat likes to kill mice in the middle of the the night and bring it back to my dog so he can eat it so i dont know what shes talking about that all dogs hate cats

  • animals are better then most humans!!!!!

  • this cat can teach the world a thing or two lol.

  • why would you chanin the mother puppy, thats just said what if she does want to go her babies but obviously cant since there is a chain around her, and wth did they just call he a slut lol how stupid and ignorant, thats just how animals behave serioussly

  • why on earth do animal planet promote trailer dogs and cats, they are only worth something when they see dollar signs, giving tem a good start in life is not likely going to happen, getting the right nutrition miss missy would not even give her own kids just Like Amber from bb with dick and danielle, And thats that

  • while its a cute video, i feel sorry for the puppies .. when they are old enough to go to homes, will they all find their forever home or will the owners get tired of them once they are no longer puppies and then dump them at a shelter or on the side of the road? .. too many dogs and cats are being put to sleep every day all over the USA all because owners didnt want them or cant take care of them anymore .. spay and neutering is the best thing that any responsible pet owner can do!

  • No,the dog dosen't have to be chained up. The owner should be though.

  • who keeps a dog on a chain?????

no one civilized thats for sure. i have an un desexed dog, i don't chain it, i wouldn't chain anything, its not rocket science to keep your best friend indoors.....with the puppies, this is barbaric, someone call the animal rescue. wouldn't be allowed in Australia.

  • That cat knows how to care for those puppies better than that woman does. Why the hell are those puppies out side and why the hell is the mother dog chained up? I don't normally comment or think too much about animal videos on youtube unless they are outrageous. For some reason, though, this video makes me angry.

  • The animals do need to be fixed, no argument. And yes animals will get along if left to just be animals. All animals are so smart. Now if we could just get people to stop thinking of them as disposable.

  • people are so retarded "OMG its chained!!! animal cruelty" calm the fuck down

  • Lets chain the dog up so it doesn't get knocked up. Ever hear of getting it fixed?

  • that dog probably didnt want to nurse her pups cause she's on a 5 ft chain tied to a tree.

  • @jeff4304 After she left those puppies for dead, thats when they tied her up because that ho was gonna go get laid again.

  • ah for the love of mike, its a cute video. lets just leave it at that OK??

  • @ultimateanime45 You are really stupid cat hater. I will like to see the dogs close to a leopard when they are grown.

  • I just wish people would have their animals neutered or spayed and stop having litters there are too many unwanted animals now, go to rescue groups and help animals.

  • It's so fricken cute and amazing when animals do this. : )

  • I just want to know how the puppies are doing 4 years later? Did they go to good homes? Did they all survive the cat-upbringing? Are they litter-box trained?

  • At least one creature/living thing, an animal no less contributes to life of the living.

  • Please, for the sake of other people enjoying this video and the future of humanity, take your arguments else where. They're annoying and unnecessary. If someone has a problem with the content in the video, which the whole point of it is TO ENJOY CUTE CATS AND PUPPIES take it to private chat, don't point it out for the whole world to read. So shut the fuck up, and enjoy the video :3.

  • Wow, people these days really amuse me. I came to this video, hoping JUST to watch a cute video about a cat looking after puppies, when all I saw were these comments, and I didn't even scroll down the page. I can see that many people here are either a) immature in their approach to arguments, or b) try to be philosophical in their response to comments. Who cares that you worked in an animal shelter? Who cares if this person chose to let their animals have offspring. Obviously there is a reason.

  • @rachelf01 The reason is she'd rather tie a dog than take proper care of her, and she hasn't spayed her pets. People aware of the problems animals are facing have a hard time finding irresponsibility cute. And, if all you wanted to do was watch a cute video, why were you reading the comments at all? Furthermore, why did you comment? That is more than slightly hypocritical, wouldn't you say?

  • @kellycampbell86 Urgh, this comment was generally for people, but of course you have to comment on every single thing. As the video stated, she has to tie up the dog because it will escape. I'm perfectly aware of the problems animals are facing, but there are people out there who breed animals, or don't spay their pets, to give away the offspring to other people. Generally speaking, all animals that are bred go out to homes eventually, sometimes when they're a few weeks old, or a few months old.

  • @rachelf01 I know why the dog is tied. I also know that any dog can be trained, and a companion animal should be with her owner, not tied outside. If you are perfectly aware of the problems animals are facing, you should be perfectly aware that the cause of those problems is overbreeding and irresponsible pet ownership (i.e., not spaying and neutering). Generally speaking, you couldn't be more wrong. Only 1 in five kittens born finds a home. The odds being slightly better for dogs at 1 in 3.

  • @rachelf01 In order for all stray cats in North America to have homes, each adult would need to own 9 cats.

I'm not commenting on every comment someone makes. I am replying to certain comments, as I see fit to. I am stating the facts, like it or not, and I am not trying to be anything. If you find me annoying, you are welcome to bow out of this conversation at anytime.

  • @kellycampbell86 I wasn't starting a conversation with you. I didn't want you to comment on it. It's just there to state that people having huge, long fights and having long "philosophical" conversations should personal message each other. This was my statement in the first place that I placed, so would you kindly back off?

  • @rachelf01 No one was fighting, to my knowledge. Yes, we were having long conversations, which we're free to do and has no effect on you. You made it your cause and business to dictate to people where and when they should hold conversations. It's ironic that you could have just said "cute" as you intended, but instead knowingly posted a provoking comment, which you state you knew I would comment on, and yourself became one of your own irritants :-)

  • @kellycampbell86 Jesus, just stop commenting on my post. You keep bringing up notifications on my phone, and I can't stop it.

  • @rachelf01 It's easy enough to stop it. I don't reply when there's nothing to reply to ;-)

  • @kellycampbell86 The reason I read these comments was because I wanted to comment saying "cute" then I saw you trying to be philosophical about animals, when all the reason for this video was to show people that a cat took over a dog's litter, because the dog didn't want to mother them, and the cat lost its babies. Stop trying to act smart, it's the one thing that annoys me most. Acting smart online doesn't necessarily mean smart in real life. Don't comment on every single comment someone makes.

  • Somebody please give the trailer lady money to spay and neuter these pets.

  • yep, thats a cat lady

  • the dog was chained up outside, no wonder dog abondons its puppies

  • @haimaref007 lol wat

  • This is actually more common than you would think. Maternal instincts don't worry about species boundery lines. Love is love. Fairly common on farms, etc.

  • @scrapstreams True. I saw a report on Animal Planet a couple of years ago about a cat and a duck who took care of each other's children. During the day, the cat would keep the kittens and ducklings with her. Then at night, the duck would take over the infant care so the cat could go hunt for her kittens.

  • Nature at it's best.

  • Aww! That is so cute! :3

  • Sure this never would have happened if they would have spayed or neutered their pets, but then again, if we never would have taken these animals out of their natural habit about 20000 years ago we wouldn't have that mess either, am i right?

  • @mhachey3459 That is irrelevant, as we cannot change the past. We can, however, prevent these things from happening now with the knowledge we have gained through the years and the medical advances that have been made. We cannot turn back time and not domesticate animals, but we can do the responsible thing as pet owners and spay and neuter our pets.

  • @kellycampbell86 i agree with maternal instinct as a whole, but not certain individual behaviors

  • Cat lovers made this video, no doubt. Bashing the dog like she's some kind of whore. I bet that dog loved those puppies, but just didn't interact with them in the ten seconds of video they were shown together.

This isn't cute. That cat did KIDNAP those puppies to replace the litter of kittens she lost. The reason she's hiding them is because she wants them for herself so the dog can't have them. That's diabolical, and not something you should be condoning.

  • This has got to be the cutest story ever.

  • No wonder the poor dog found it difficult to nurse her pups that stupid woman chains her up!!! If you cant afford/be bothered to get your dog spayed then don't own one its cruel!!!!

  • @MegaIsha2010 so its cruel to NOT spay and neuter your pets? how would you like your balls to be chopped off? the only thing i have a problem with is her tying the dog up outside. i have a dog, hes about 2 year sold, and his balls are perfectly intact, hes the happiest little guy ever. are you gonna call the animal abuse hotline on me? oh yeah, i also have a cat who hasnt been to the vet since he was a kitten(hes about 13 now.and perfectly healthy.) am i a bad person?

  • Swag

  • Those poor animals - I wish I could liberate them all from the clutches of that irresponsible hillbilly freak. She has no business owning any animals - chaining that dog - perish the thought she could have a large run built. And check out it's filthy, matted coat - probably covered with fleas. Those animals have probably never seen the inside of a vet's office. Shame on her. God Help those animals.

  • @Lonestarry they dont have vets in the wild, does that mean mother nature is guilty of animal abuse?

  • @takingbackromance The truth of the matter is that animals in the wild usually live a brutal life, with not enough to eat, until they are either killed or die a long death. People tend to romanticize the wild. That is just the way it is. You know that mother nature isn't actually a being, right? Even if there were vets in the wild, an imaginary being couldn't take the animals there.

  • @kellycampbell86 i was using mother nature as a symbol to represent nature. and animals like cats and dogs are excellent at finding food in the wild, its one of the reasons theyre so adapted to it, such as dogs having good noses and ears, and cats have excellent vision and agility. yes animals get killed in the wild, but this is nature, the circle of life, one animal dies, so the other can eat.

  • @takingbackromance When we have pets, it is our job to care for them and give them exceptional lives. Not make them live like they would in the wild, that's proposterous. Animals in the wild also don't have food delivered to them. Do your pets fend for themselves when it comes to food? Your dog, the "happiest little guy" you described, do you give him affection? Because animals in the wild also don't get affection from humans. Your pets don't live like animals in the wild, so why compare them?

  • @kellycampbell86 im not saying that we should treat animals like like theyre in the wild. im saying that vets are mostly pointless, the only reasons an animal should be taken to the vet, is for vaccinations if theyre gonna be around other animals/outside often, or if they get sick or injured. if the pet is well taken care of, they shouldnt need to go to the vet more then once every few years for vaccinations(and thats if they need them.).

  • @takingbackromance Hey there takingbackromance.....why not take back that stupid comment, as it means nothing - makes no sense - and has no bearing on the condition of those animals - I don't know how you use your logic - but you didn't in that response. To help you understand - I was commenting on the condition of the animals and the filth their owner makes them live in - not mother nature.

  • @takingbackromance Hey takingbackromance......did mother nature put the chain on the dog? You are calling this the"wild"? Somebody owns that dog - and probably that cat - and that somebody ought to be severely reprimanded for not taking better care of their "pets".

  • @Lonestarry no, i never said any of those things. like i said in a previous comment, the only problem i have is the woman chaining the dog to the tree. other than that, there is nothing wrong with how these pets are cared for.

  • @takingbackromance I hope you don't own any animals because you would not be a caring, responsible and concerned pet owner.

  • @Lonestarry why? cuz i didnt chop my dogs balls off? or maybe its the fact that i spend $1.75 per (small)container of dog food, so i can give my dog the nutrition he needs to be healthy? or it could even be the fact that my cat (who ive had since he was 9 weeks, he is 14 years now.) is my absolute best friend? certainly if i wasnt a "caring, responsible and concerned pet owner", he would of died from sickness or hunger years ago. lets also look at the fact that all you know(see new comment)

  • @Lonestarry about me, is what little information i posted in my comments, which is what? the fact that i dont agree with your opinions on neutering animals? you have NO right to pass judgment on me based on that. so i dont think animals should have their family jewels chopped off, SO WHAT? so i dont feel that animals need to be taken to the vet unless necessary, SO WHAT? those dont make me a neglectful pet owner. i feed them, i play with them, i care for them, i love them. what am i doing wrong?

  • @takingbackromance Go try to explain yourself to someone who cares - because I surely don't. It is obvious to me the type of person you are - and that, in itself, is all that need be said.

  • @Lonestarry lmao, at first, i thought you were just an asshole. now i realize your just a troll. MAJOR downgrade. if you wanna see the type of person i am, i can send you a picture of me cuddling with my cat, while he has himself a big ole kitty smile. or hell, you could just go watch my video on my profile of me playing with my dog when he was a baby. that should at least speak for itself.

  • @takingbackromance It's always the guiltiest person who screams the loudest in protest and attempts to purify their deeds by demanding people accept their good intentions. Go ahead - have your animals - pet their heads or whatever - that will not change my perception of you or the views you have of pet ownership. Stop whining - it will do no good.

  • @Lonestarry your view of me makes no sense. only an idiot would base an opinion off of youtube comments. get off the internet. your doing it incorrectly. your doing LIFE incorrectly.

  • @takingbackromance Why is it that almost every video on youtube turns into a B***ching match between people.....

And for some reason politics comes in and so does race/gender or the likeness it is upsetting that the dog was chained but maybe the dog runs away or the owners don't have a fence. Judgeing baised on a few seconds of a view into the life doesn't give us the right to judge....Just saying

  • @aninmals4ever001 The video said the dog liked to run away.

  • Heroism

  • aaawwww... thts so sweet

  • one unspayed cat and her offspring can create about 400,000 cats in only seven years. go watch hundreds of healthy young puppies and kittens being killed every day and you'll become an advocate for spay/neuter.

  • @catherineturley People just don't get it. And it is the most simple concept to grasp in the world. The pros outweigh the cons by a huge amount! Not only prevention of unwanted puppies and kittens, but prevention of cancers and other deadly illnesses. Kudos to you for spreading the word!

  • Jesus H. Tap-Dancing Christ, people. It's a video about a cat who adopts a bunch of puppies do to a natural, maternal instinct. And all of you gits are bitching about the ethics of procreation?

Get your heads out of your asses; you're not philosophers, you're a bunch of whiny little, self-righteous tits. Enjoy the video for what it is, and calm the hell down.

  • @Kittykat6289 If you're so concerned, hun, how about you just watch the video and ignore the comments? Is that not just as easy?

  • @Kittykat6289 LMAO@ "Jesus H. Tap-Dancing Christ".

  • @Kittykat6289 Wow....kittykat.....I thought the neanderthals were extinct - yet you live, breathe and walk among us. What a hillbilly you are - do you fish with your hands? LOL - why not do us all a favor and hurl yourself down a tall staircase - your words betray your intellect - which is a big zero.

  • @Lonestarry so i see this comment you left for this kitty kat person, which makes me wonder.... you seem to act like your miss high and mighty, yet, you call this person a neanderthal, hillbilly, and then tell them to throw themselves down a staircase... how is this at all mature? you my friend, are an idiot.

  • @Kittykat6289 how can tits be self-righteous??? Hahahahaha

  • @Kittykat6289

    That's Right!

    - Tits!

    xD

  • Where are they now? Dead?

  • Smoochie is a WHORE!

  • dead beat dog

  • couldnt we say the same about humans? there are plenty of children living in orphanages yet out first choice is to try and create a child of our own.. what would u suggest? should we "spay and neuter" them also? -___- so ridiculous..

  • @taz20126

    Pretty much, yeah.

  • @taz20126 yes! personally i tink ALL people on welfare should b at least on birth control :)

  • @krommann1984

I think the idea is kinda harsh to hear but i see where you are coming from.. i think its unfair and selfish to bring a child into the world if you cannot support them...If you are not able to support yourself you have no business bringing another child into the world and forcing the community to help support him or her.

  • Comment removed

  • @whateverwhateverSB Hello, Pot.

  • the puppies will learn to prowl...and....POUNCE!

  • At least the puppies will grow up bilingual. :)

  • Haha! Your all mine now!

  • Awwe I use to have a cat called miss kitty!! this is very cute!

  • u go and take care of those pups kitty :)......because sum1 stole ur kittens

  • How about fixing the mother dog instead of being forced to "chain her up so she doesn't run away and get pregnant again"?

  • @ChuckieBG maybe the mother dog doesnt want her genitals mutilated.

  • @djdeimos1 Wow, that may be the stupidest comment I have ever read. Birth will do more harm to her genitals than spaying her, given that spaying an animal doesn't even come into contact with her genitals.

  • @kellycampbell86 yeah you go ahead and tell that skank of a dog how to live her life, and 'fix' her up properly so she obeys. your argument is flawed and based on simple semantics due to the fact you don't support chaining up an animal that is subservient to humans, in favor of surgically making the dog incapable of breeding and following its natural life path. right. do the world a favor and think with your brain (what little one u may have) and not your heart. thank you.

  • Amazing cat she is.

  • 0:40 This...is...odd...

  • trailer trash

  • Aww <3 love that cat <3

  • This was posted 7/14/07. What's happening now?

  • the cat cannot provide enough milk for thos dogs, is the first and biggest problem.

  • ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

SHUT UP AND ENJOY THE CAT!

    ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

  • Or spay her instead of tieing her up!

  • ahahah adorable :)

  • I was unaware that animal breastmilk could be nutritious to other species. crazy

  • @lqdoula Well humans drink cow breastmilk so I guess so. I never really thought of it that way.

  • This is so amazing and beautiful!

  • CUTE!!SO CUTE!!!!CUTE OVERLOAD!

  • catmom says: "R E T R A C T your claws."

  • nnaaawwww isnt that just beautiful!!?? why cant human life be so easy and caring!???

  • awwwww :) this makes me sad and happy :)

  • Ah, glorifying human irresponsibility. Don't train the dog, tie it up. Don't spay them, let them reproduce in a world where there are already too many animals and even more irresponsible pet owners (like the moron in the video). I don't get why people are always so amazed that animal mothers take on other species. It is merely maternal instinct. It is in the news and featured on Youtube every other day.

SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS! Too many are dying in shelters already.

  • @kellycampbell86 how is this human irresponsibility when it is the animal that is doing the humpity dumpity? and isn't it their own instinct to breed, considering greater numbers ensures the species survival and the carrying on of genes? pardon me for not forgiving your arrogance, but your quickness to blame HUMANS for an ANIMALS BIOLOGICAL IMPERATIVE is ridiculous and astounding.

  • @kellycampbell86 your mom. =P

  • @kellycampbell86 Have you been castrated yourself?

    If not, then don't complain.

  • @20ZZ20 Firstly, I cannot be castrated. Secondly, animals do not have the free will to not procreate. Their instinct is the only thing they live by, and that tells them to make more dogs and cats despite the millions dying yearly, diseased, homeless, mistreated and the harm that more dogs and cats does to this problem. You can't compare companion animals to human beings.

  • @kellycampbell86 Why not lmao?

There are 'too many' humans who destroy the earth and kill animals.

I've had a dog and it never had any puppies despite retaining it's genitals, so yeah it's human irresponsibility if you don't look after your dog enough to stop it being fucked by some random dog.

In that case, you shouldn't have a dog. And why can't we compare humans to animals? WE ARE ANIMALS!

  • @20ZZ20 Animals do not have the ability to reason. As a human, I can say I don't want children, and will not have any. So can, and do, many other people. Animals are not aware of the state of the world because, as I have already explained to your simple mind, they work on instinct alone.

We also have the ability to protect our pets from various types of cancer and other diseases by spaying and neutering. There is also the aggression issue. There is just no good reason not to do it.

  • @kellycampbell86 you're stupid what right do you have to say what can and cant have babys what gives you the right to say the dog is not entiled to have puppies or the cats to have kittens do the world a favour get ur self spayed

  • @kellycampbell86

Same for humans. Stop having babies left and right! We don't fit on earth any more!

  • @sjrivelino I agree with you there, as well!

  • @kellycampbell86 YES ! That is sooo true. Moms will care for all babies. And there are way too many puppies & kittens all over ! Yes they are cute but use your head ! Too many means they have to go, & that is just so sad. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Alan

  • @kellycampbell86 SPAY AND NEUTER YOURSELVES!!!! Too many people are dying in hospitals already. (When animals are dying we put them down because it's the "humane" thing to do, when people are dying hospitals keep us alive as long as they can, prolonging our pain suffering til the end)

  • @saiperus I certainly won't be having any children, and it has nothing to do with being "spayed or neutered" because I am a human being who can make the responsible decision not to add to the problem. I am not out having 19 Kids and Counting because some imaginary friend doesn't agree with birth control. Human beings ought to make the responsible decision themselves, with the ability to reason it should be a no-brainer.

Also, I agree with humane euthanasia for people who are suffering.

  • @kellycampbell86 AMEN to all your comments

  • @doodieheadable Thank you :-)

  • @kellycampbell86 if all animals were spayed and neutered, they would die out pretty soon. what would happen then?

  • @takingbackromance That is an unrealistic scenario, as it would never happen. Also, animals don't think of their testicles the way human males tend to. They don't feel any "less" without them. Nor do female animals feel any "less" for being spayed. You have a moronic way of thinking, and need to educate yourself if you really think of spaying and neutering this way.

  • @kellycampbell86 i know they dont think of them the same way, but is spaying and neutering really nesecary? what does it do besides take away their ability to have children. i understand some people look at neutering as a good thing, and i understand neutering certain animals(like cats so they dont spray around the house) but i find neutering animals that have no purpose to be neutered other then to stop mating, to be cruel and unnatural.

  • @takingbackromance If you research spaying and neutering, you find that the pros greatly outweight the cons. Not only spraying in cats, but many dogs will scent mark as well. Aggression is observably reduced with neutering. The chances of many illnesses and cancers are reduced, some removed entirely. The "it's not natural" excuse only ever seems to get applied to spaying and neutering, not taking into account at all that it was just typed to me on the internet. How natural ;-)

  • @kellycampbell86 wow. mature argument. "herp herp derp internet derp." im just standing up for the animals who deserve a chance to have children. and your turning me into a terrible person. douchebag.

  • @takingbackromance I just have to add, as I have already said on this video, visit your local shelter. The reason it exists is because people don't see the importance of neutering. There are so many unwanted pets in the world and not enough homes. Most kittens and puppies that end up in shelters are from unwanted/accidental litters. The feral cat problem in North America and feral dog problem in some areas is evidence of the same. Animals are dying as a direct result of not being neutered.

  • @kellycampbell86 no, animals are dying because of people taking them to the local shelters, where they wait for 7 days, and if no home is found, the animal is euthanized. this was their world first, not ours, as human beings we have no right to put an animal to sleep unless its 100% no doubt absolutely necessary. but humans think "oh we have thumbs, just cuz we build the houses here and own the paper deeds to the area, we can take whatever animal that lives in the area and get rid of it.

  • @takingbackromance That is not how most shelters work, for your information. You shouldn't speak without knowing what you're talking about, or you end up looking a fool. I am ending this discussion, as you and I do not and will not see eye to eye on animal rights, and you don't seem to have a grasp on how things work in that area anyway. I am just glad that more people are on my side in this than yours. It's a step in the right direction.

  • @kellycampbell86 really? thats not how most shelters work? go to your local shelter, im sure youll see it. every shelter in my area does that. my whole point is that it isnt required for animals to be neutered. if you think its abosolutely necessary to open up an animal, and remove the parts it was blessed with, then you have a problem.

  • @takingbackromance I ran my local shelter for years and was involved with many others. None of them operated in that way. I know that some do, but most these days do not.

  • @kellycampbell86 i totally agree with your spay and neuter comment...but as for mother instinct, if that was the case then all animals would adopt the babies of other animals and that's not the case...especially not without coercion/reward...i seriously doubt my cats would have done that although it's impossible to say

  • @kellycampbell86 i totally agree with your spay and neuter comment...but as for mother instinct, if that was the case then all animals would adopt the babies of other animals and that's not the case...especially not without coercion/reward...i seriously doubt my cats would have done that although it's impossible to say

  • @NiangoChan It's very well documented that both domesticated and wild animals will adopt orphaned offspring (or offspring being uncared for) of both their own species, and others. This isn't a freak case, and it does happen often. I have seen dogs do it with kittens while working in rescue. I have also seen countless cases of cats adopting other cats kittens.

  • @kellycampbell86 i'm not saying it's not common...i also worked in rescue...but it's note the rule and so it's not instinct

  • @NiangoChan You can't really argue that it isn't a maternal instinct. It isn't male animals doing these things. It is female animals (and typically mothers, themselves) doing them. They don't try to mother adult animals, but baby ones. They don't treat the animals they adopt any differently than they do their own offspring, not like prey, not like a threat or an irritation, just like mothers treat offspring. That is what maternal instinct is.

  • @kellycampbell86 true...although i've heard other criteria...but not only can the behavior of adopting other animals actually be debated but maternal instinct actually can as well...and it actually is in psychology (was a psychology major...not that that means anything)

  • @NiangoChan Also, the definition of instinct: 1. an inborn pattern of activity or tendency to action common to a given biological species. 2. a natural or innate impulse, inclination, or tendency. 3. a natural aptitude or gift: an instinct for making money. 4. natural intuitive power. It is not defined as being the "rule".

  • @kellycampbell86 it can because the definition of instinct almost always includes the criteria of presence in every individual...not in the colloquial sense but in the true meaning of the term

  • @NiangoChan By that definition, maternal instinct is present in every female individual in the animal kingdom. They don't get taught to care for their young, they just know how to. Instantly. They also know what the young of other species are in need of, which is why they adopt them and care for them.

  • @NiangoChan There have been documented cases of a cat nursing a deer, a goat nursing a horse, cats nursing rabbits, etc. In the wild, there have been cases documented of a lioness who hunts some type of gazelle (or something, sorry, I can't recall what) and mothers their offspring (which usually eventually get killed by other lions), and also a jaguar who killed a baboon and then mothered the baby it had left orphaned. The baby ultimately froze to death, but that's not the point. It happens.

  • @kellycampbell86 and by other criteria i meant that it is often believed the existence of a behavior in all individuals in a species is one criteria/definition

  • @NiangoChan Oh yes, I am aware that maternal instinct is debated in psychology. I have come across people who have children and don't seem to have a bit of maternal instinct. But, in my experience, that tends to be more the exception than the rule (not that I have studied that in depth). The point is, what we understand to be maternal instinct in animals (and as animals function on instinct, can't really be debated too much), is what drives these animals to care for the young of other animals.
