Every time I see pictures of the Hagia Sophia it upsets me to know how the Muslim Turks have desecrated this holy church. It is not a Turkish national monument and it is not a mosque. It is a Christian church and should be given back to the Orthodox Church for everyday use!
Sorry...the "Byzantines" wouldn't know what you were talking about. They called themselves "Romans"....right up to 1453. The term Byzantine was unknown to them. It was invented later, by Western historians, to distinguish them from the classical Romans.
Was this really performed in Hagia Sophia? I knew an Antiochian Orthodox Priest who several years ago tried to Chant an Orthodox hymn in Hagia Sophia and was almost arrested, but certainly thrown out,
Continued existence of the Turkish state, between the years 1299-1923. Eastern Europe, Southwest Asia and North Africa, and expanded its territory until the 16th century, the most powerful empire the world has become.
The conquest of Istanbul, the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire of Constantinople on May 29, 1453, taken by the Ottoman Army led by Fatih Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror. Then the city was the capital of the Ottoman Empire !
Hagia Sophia must have been a beautiful church before it was converted into a mosque. It must have been a slice of heaven on earth. The smell of incense and candles. The chants.
The world needs to know about the tremendous spiritual awakening in the Republic of Georgia. Please see my promotional shorts and trailers in various languages on the spiritual history and future of the Republic of Georgia.,
Orthodoxy is not empire - it's confession which does not united languages and cultures but spirits. So when I'm saying that it's Georgian I don't mean that it's not Orthodoxical
