Early on while I was still dating my wife, my Venezuelan wife, we went to a seafood restaurant. She's trying to figure out what scallops are. Her English was still pretty weak at the time so she looks it up in her dictionary. She turns to me and says on no uncertain terms that we're leaving. She's not eating here. Screw this crazy place. It turns out that in her dictionary scallops is right next to scalps. LMAO.

Speaking as someone of mixed hispanic background (Father: Colombian Mom: Puerto Rican & Mexican) I've definitely noticed that each side of my family, though we all speak the same language, has a different rhythm to the Spanish they speak.

Most of my family are native speakers & I definitely can tell the speed & comfort in which they speak tends to confuse everyone but other native speakers. I do, however, get a real kick whenever my dad tries saying the word desperate...de-SES-parit...lol

I think Spanish is a cool language. I learned it when I spent a few years in Spain. As a white guy in my opinion the most clear and articulate Spanish is spoken by the Mexicans. No ofense to anyone. I have a hard time understanding Puerto Ricans and Cubans. But I love it.

@stylegalantsy Mexicans talk like if they were singing. the best variant of spanish that you can hear and understand is the spanish from south america and of course the native spanish from spain.

@numaquevedo1 it also depends what mexican accent you heard, Mexico is a big country and just like the US and many other countries there are very specific accents across the country, some easier to understand than others.

@Ftheebeep i do. i agree with u. im puertorrican and every time we go to a drive tru on a fast food, we amplifies our accent just to have fun cause we know they can't understand us well. so we laugh. sofia is great here she is one of the reason for why i watch the show cause make it more realistic.
