to me this is a song about someone who is trying to gain the attention of someone he loves, but the person doesn't care about him reciprocally... he is just a "sad clown"
i remember having these feelings when someone i loved did not return it, and didn't have a clue... so you get depressed on the inside even if you continue to smile on the outside... ahh i feel the pain just listening to this song!

That's the whole idea. This is a song about the sadness of showing a happy face around people and then hiding the pain.

few years ago, two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to ask if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said,"Take the kids and get out of the house. We'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue." The "clown statue" is really a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this on to 10 videos tonight, the clown will be in your bed at 3:00 am with a chainsaw in his hand;sorry i didn't want that happening to me
