Oi, Lad. Don't listen to any of these fools. Bass guitar was meant to be a rhythmic instrument. Don't no one care about how fast your fingers move, just as long as you have that nasty and chunky growl to go with the drumming. I play both but i have to admit I perfer the 5 string. your range of what you can play is much greater and the strong tends to be much thicker so you can get some hard heavy bass notes from it

don't do that.... you'll blow your amp! if you wanna try bass go down to a music store and get you a starter set usually around $200... they come with a bass guitar, a bass amp, usually a strap. then look into some bass effects pedals if you wanna get distortion. I use just a fender 15" combo amp and my effects is the boss M-50 be.
