I'm trying to remove the Transmission Kick Down Linkage... The little cord with a black "keyhole" looking thing at the end of it. How do you disconnect this?
@iVideoful If you grab that Trans Kick-down linkage as you're standing at the front of the engine and pull it toward you while holding the throttle linkage still, it should just slip off forward towards you...
It's just an interference-fit piece that has a pinch slot built in.
No need for special tools, just pull on it and when you replace, just push it in until it clicks into place.
@iVideoful The instructions below are for one type of kickdown that is a black teardrop shaped plastic piece on the end of a kick-down cable...
If you have the style of kickdown that has a long slot in it and a round exit point towards the front, you should be able to hold the throttle open and then slip the kick-down off the throttle level, through the round exit hole, while the throttle is open.
OK, so what carburetor INSTALL videos actually show how to INSTALL a carburetor? So far, the two I have clicked on (this one included) has shown either removal or tuning - I have yet to see a video on INSTALLING the thing. Please title your videos appropriately as it saves your viewers MUCH frustration and annoyance.
@JamesMorlan This short clip comes from a full length DVD that is over 2 hours long. It contains a ton of information specific to Holley carburetor installation, tuning and troubleshooting.
The reason the keywords "carburetor install" are in the title is because of the obvious reason that that's the title of the DVD...
We did post a specific video related to the installation section of the DVD, just go to the BoxWrench channel here on YT and you'll find more carb videos.
@boredomblows Well, seeing as I never did it before, I didn't know if I should clean the area with something where the carb seats, or if I should be concerned about torquing the bolts down to a specific tension, etc. It seems a lot of people make a lot of assumptions about what others know or should know, and that's easy to do if you're familiar with something. But since I've never done it before, it's all new to me, especially since I wasn't the one who removed it.
Thank you for this information; we are having a hard time finding accurate info in the Haynes or Toyota manuals for our 1991 Corolla. You really did a nice thing putting this up for the world to see. If you have any pointers for our particular model (the last month of production 5/91 in which Toyota used carbies) we'd love to hear it. Are working on a new head gasket and head recondition. Cheers!

i have a an 88 chevrolet blazer s-10 4x4 it has the black peace i guess its a carburetor?
i wonder how can i change the carburetor into a holley because i guess i have to change the hole peace please help! i want a lil bit of hose power thats all! lol
When you lift off the air cleaner what do you see?
A spread bore (q-jet) carb would have two smaller holes in front (primaries) and two larger holes in back (secondaries) both would exist under or inside of some throttle plates that open to let in air.
A square bore carb will have four equal sized holes and will either be a Carter or maybe a Weber carb. Either of these will mean that the intake manifold is either a spread bore or square bore.
Holley's can bolt to either with a converter plate
Holley used to include the entire 2 hr DVD that we made for them with every new carburetor...that's not the case any more unfortunately.
You can get the full length disc from our site, URL is in the BoxWrench logo up top right on this page at YouTube.
The complete disc will help you understand the difference between spread bore and square bore intakes and carb bases. The Holley disc will show you every little thing you would need to know about a Holley carb install & tuning, it's a good DVD
jonmark, you're right when it comes to the carb/spacer or spacer/intake since they're machined surfaces, but the cable they showed was just a press fit. No real harm doing it that way.
made it easy to take my carb off. ty.

A fairly good video, but one part caught me wrong. You should never use a wrench or screwdriver to pry on any part.
jonmark1985 3 years ago 2
What would you suggest to remove a press-on ball type throttle connector.
These kinds of connectors are designed to be pried off with some type of metal lever or any sort...just like a screwdriver or wrench.
However, if you have a suggestion for a different type of tool that would be commonly available in the average persons toolbox, please let us know.
This is a great place to share wrenching secrets with others...
