  • roll over, roll over... Good Boy!

  • 0:40 the dude inside: 'well, i'm ****ed'

  • Great shipmates, no one ran out to throw chains on the bird....

  • THE SIKORSKI SH-60 SEAHAWK IS IN THE FLIGHT DECK OF A US NAVAL FRIGATE, NOT AN AIRCRAFT CARRIER. THIS BIRD SHOULD BEEN TIED DOWN TO THE DECK WITH A 12-16 POINT TIE-DOWN.

  • @bionictrucker1 they were trying to straighten the bird with the RAST system. I've participated about 100 times. Someone should have been standing by with chains in case it started to roll over.

  • @grester OKAY. . . . .EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT A "RAST" SYSTEM IS.

  • @bionictrucker1 Recovery Assist, Secure and Traverse (indaltech.cwfc dot com)

  • Why didn't they chain the helo ? Idiots... I'm sure the CO of the ship and the Det OINC got a good reaming and they would have deserved it. Looks to me that numerous procedures were ignored across the board... Regardless of the conditions, this is unsat.

Been there done that on numerous cruises. Never saw anything like this.

  • ахаха))) привязать забыли)))

  • Well that was a bit silly wasn't it... Love the guy who thinks 'ah i'll just give it a little push and it'll be fine'

  • Dam!, thought they had to keep it tied down until startup

  • Looks like they were traversing, engine plugs are in, brake rider in, when it rolls over the RSD is still moving. The tail cables rolled the helo over. Maybe the RSD wasnt locked to the RAST.

  • how the fuck! the strong wind shook the helicopter and the man was standing their !

  • looks like dude is too busy texting to help

  • @sandshred25 Americans just get lazier and lazier.

  • At least it stopped moving

  • Dude, I think these are 2 rich idiots doing this on purpose. Did you see the guy push it back on the ground? He should have tied it down...

  • @europeanforums maybe they were just about to do an engine start??

  • @3IDLukeK Possible, but I would think that in those high winds the helo would be grounded. Just a thought...

  • Nothing really Happened to the Helicopter the part that Took all the Damage was the Rotorhead and the Rotorblades, but this is Still Extremely Expensive! :((

  • Well at least its in a stable position now. ;P

  • LoL the 2 blades that hit the deck the first time were already totaled from the first tipping and would need to be replaced...very mighty but delicate machines huh.

  • @madvid1996

They fly in the desert and they need replacing....in relation to the helicopter itself they are pretty much inexpensive.

  • @snedie69er how is a 50 million dollar chopper inexpensive?

  • @3IDLukeK

    Did you ever finish school?

If you read my comment again you will see the object stated as inexpensive is been compared to the "Expensive" helicopter.

And just to clarify the object is the rotor blades.

  • @snedie69er well your paying for it so i guess its pretty cheap for you right?

  • @3IDLukeK

No, I don't pay any tax (Seen as I legally don't have to and all).

  • The Nicholas if you want to be to the point!

  • Its a frigate you tard!

  • Not a carrier. Not wind. It's a destroyer and the deck is rolling because of high seas.

  • @mitcharooni LoL please think ,why would a helicopter be on a destroyer? Destroyers are like a floating gun and has no need or room for a helipad or helicopter its a fridgate.

  • @madvid1996 Actually. I am a LAMPs pilot. We do land on Destroyers. Now, you might be right and that isn't one, but sure looks it. Just in case you still think i'm wrong go look look for a picture of DDG-87 USS Mason and you will see that they actually have room for TWO helos.

  • LOL!

  • :31 SUPERMAN is here! He can hold it down, watch as he uses his incredible strength to push the chopper back upright. Unfortunately, the mighty EVIL wind would not be denied on this day.

  • Just bent up the starboard horizontal stab and the blue and red blades. Nothing a little FCF can't fix.

  • At least it wasn't cranked up when it fell over - I've seen the hell unleashed when that happens!

  • where are your chains, you idiots?????? what the fuck kinda flight deck are you runnin?????

  • epic effort points to the guy that ran to push it upright lol!

  • Question - why didn't the captain turn the ship headway INTO the wind? This would have minimized any crosswind issues and maximized the safety of aircraft crew and flight deck crew. Thank God the rotors weren't engaged and the pilot was about to take off.

  • @shakenama at that time of night, it isn't the captain thats in control of the ship, its the officer of the deck, could be anything from a Lt. to a Lt. commanderin control. you'd be surprised just how ofter the bridge forgets that we don't have the bird chained to the deck and we're still in the process of straightening it out so we can stuff it in the hangar

  • @TelefonicaRR

It was a LtJG actually. The bridge was told by the air boss that it was in fact chained and we could maneuver.

NCIS didn't find the bridge at fault.

  • ya cant fix friggin STUPID

  • why was it not below deck someones arse needs to be court marshalled

  • This is the safiest crash hopefully:)

  • This is one of the few cases I have seen of static rollover on YouTube

  • that is the back of a frigate, and HSL is Helicopter anti submarine Light squadron

  • What does HLS stand for? And please know stupid responses.

  • uh not strong winds otherwise those guys also on the deck would be sent flying, im guessing waves were the cause. false title.

  • 064 we have a black hawk down,we have a black hawk down

  • I love how I guy runs out and tries to push it back up. lol

  • This Happened on a Frigate. In order to pull the aircraft into the hanger you have straighten the aircraft. The XO walked in and said turn the ship and when they turned, thats what happened. Plus there were rough seas as well. We did this countless times underway and have come close to doing the same thing. Those who want to argue go away, Was in the Navy 6 years and over 2 years of being deployed. Look carefully at :48 and you will see the guide wire hooked up in the back. PS 22 Mil on its side

  • @richabrad9

I was on watch when this happened, and the XO was not the reason. We were taking 6-8 foot sweels on the beam which was going to make straightening difficult, plus we were about to enter a traffic separation scheme, so the OOD called down to ask them to chain it down while we came about for better seas. The Air Boss called back up and said that it was chained, so the Conning officer had us come around.

  • @richabrad9

The NCIS investigation that was conducted in Rota found no fault with the bridge crew or the XO.

  • Esse heli é de papel?

    JoNeS

    Salvador - BA - BRASIL

  • why didnt they tie it down

  • this isnt a carrier flight deck, looks like the back of a frigate..

that chopper cost more than ill ever make in my lifetime :(

  • @Kopihucky don't be scared... they only broked the rotor blade because of rough seas

  • @Kopihucky HOOAH!!! rotor blade cost like $40,000

  • @cjhyde78 actually try $250,000

  • @djtropiklfred ok I was a few $100,000 off LOL but I know there not cheap

  • @Kopihucky

it looks like that only wings broken up .... two million $ and it will fly again

  • @Kopihucky YER EXACTLY RITE ABOUT THIS SIKORSKY SH-60 SEAHAWK BEIN ON A FRIGATE INSTEAD OF AN AIRCRAFT CARRIER. I WAS IN NAVAL AVIATION AS A JET ENGINE MECH FER 4 YEARS STATIONED AT NAS NORTH ISLAND--SAN DIEGO, CALI. MY AIRCRAFT CARRIER WAS THE USS NIMITZ.

  • The issue was the sea state the ship was operating in. When the ship is taking large rolls and the helo isn't secured to the deck, this can happen. The air det was attempting to straighten the helo so it can be moved into the helo hangar.

  • winds string enough to blow a copter over but doesn't even faze the guy walking around on the deck huh? Sometimes they dump aircraft at sea. Seen it before. so whats up with the vid?

  • yeah, the guy was just wandering around, realy weard ay?? any idears

  • @BoracayOcean69 it seems to me in my novice opinion that it was the surf and the movement of the ship that caused this not the wind but your guess is as good as mine

  • Did you see that guy tring to stop it from tipping mate I font think your really going to do much het maybe you can help pay for damages to get under it that might help

  • and the helo was effed up because the rotor bent

  • they can replace the rotor easy lol

  • I bet you that RAST lost its grip.

I was stationed in HSL 42 from 97-01.

  • i agree with shotrod80 shit does happen haha

  • Clean Up! Isle 12!

  • BLACK HAWK DOWN!!!!!!

  • No no, it's the sequel.....Sea Hawk down!

  • oops my bad...

  • It's ok, just don't let it happen again!

  • LOL...i wont dont worry.

  • yess boss, im sory boss, , why is there plastick sheet on the walls boss BANG

  • @TheGoaltender94 well...sideways atleast

  • @supercrapnstuff11 Technically its a Sea Hawk and technically its sideways, but hey...

  • The wings looked weak, where they made of bamboo.

  • Could have been 100 times worse than that.

  • why weren't the rotors folded back??? And why wasn't it tied down?

  • @ste309w You cant straighten with rotors folded

  • First, that's on a small boy (cruiser/destroyer) not a carrier. Secondly, it's a SH-60 Seahawk not a UH-60 Blackhawk.

  • It was during a straightening evolution. Thats why there are no tie downs, and nobody near the aircraft. the ship took a roll as the rear wheel was turning, like it is supposed to do. This was a lot of things happening at once. No ones fault, accident at sea, doing what it is designed to do.

  • sorry Lordkamel, but your wrong. i had 10 years on Lynx on destroyers and frigates and been in mega seas. Helicopter should be lashed/chained down....if you are moving it on deck, you use running nylon lashes. Here, with the ship rolling as it did...someone fucked up.

  • due to the fact that your s.o.p. are different from ours since I'm taking it that your british royal navy that we have tail cables that are under the deck that are hooked up to pull the helo from right to left and the belly probe keeps the bird on deck and we use chains to keep the bird stable during non movements. Its a safty issue when moving on deck having people around and hensforth that why we have the cables. The ship tried to correct a movement during a bad swell and that what happend.

  • @Nicoladrag Sorry Nicoladrag, In the Navy for six years, No nylons used in straightning or moving. High seas were an issue but with in limits. Guide wires and RSD (If the beams are working properly) will hold up to 10 degree roll. XO had the ship change heading and the seas were hitting the ship broad side instead of cutting through them.

  • Thats what I tried to tell people when it happend, shit happens

  • Comment removed

  • its fix now

  • And those things sit lower than my SH-2F did and we never had a rollover......course, we TIED OURS DOWN!...lol (HSL-34 Greencheckers)

  • wtf..tie that thing down

  • LOL the guy runs up to push it hahahahaha

  • black hawk down black hawk down

  • hahaha,poor black hawk :D

  • Comment removed

  • Where were the tie downs?

  • At least nobody got hurt

  • omg did he die?

  • as a matter of fact he did die, he shot himself in the head!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lol

  • lol bendy blades XD

  • Aja....mother nature: 1. US navy: 0

  • bad tide uping

  • This helicopter seems to be more stable on its side!

  • I think that helo needs some retractable side stabilizers for that duty at sea.

  • Amen. How the hell military hasnt realized that yet? Call em right now, you'll get a job!

  • noobs

  • SOooooo.. Who's gonna pay for that?

  • your tax dollars

  • Ha.Yeah, my money.

  • I'm a little confused. Where is the deck crew securing the helicopter? Could somebody whose actually worked helicopter operations on ship enlighten us?

  • seahawk? I love This Helicopter!!! The Best ever(after Mil mi 12)

  • buy one!

  • Ach lass mich doch du XXXXXXXXX

    Kannse duetsch?

  • Been there, done that, got the pictures. Only ours was running hot at the time. Wave came, helo rolled over. *B-B-B-BANG!* We found bits of the rotors on the *foc'sle*.

  • yeah sure.............

  • where was this?

  • i like the guy who pushes it back over , hes the hulk

  • Wow, these guys did such a great job tethering the helicopter..... NOT. I mean, come on, $50 in chains to prevent a $40,000 problem. I bet you some guy got fired on that one.

  • that's way more than $40,000 in damage, it's at least $100,000 probably more just for new rotor blades and probably rotor head and then more depending on inspection requirements for transmission and mast after that kind of accident.

  • Strong glue should fix the blades.

IT CAN GLUE A CAR TO A CHAIN!

  • I'm guessing they didn't have time, you can still see people in the cockpit.

  • black hawk down haha

  • alright, roll it back over and let's try again

  • lol, the guy tried to push it back over!!! lol

  • And it wasn't a "carrier flgith deck because of strong winds", it was on a frigate, and there were 9 foot swells that we were taking while in a shallow turn

  • So why ain't that shit tied down then, figure it's not like nobody saw this coming...

  • Funny story there. The airboss (the guy you see attempting to push it back over) had called us up in the Pilot House and told us it was secured to the deck, and that we were clear to turn the ship. however, in all reality it wasn't secured to the flight deck at all, and as is evidenced in this video, the damn thing rolled over. When NCIS showed up in Spain to investigate, he said he'd never spoken to us.

  • Ouch... shitty thing coming from an airboss -- hope he got his ass kicked out of the navy for that. I couldn't see clearly but was the helo crew still in there? If so they must've about shit their pants when it rolled...

  • Yep, there was still a pilot in there. And surprisingly enough, no one lost their job over it. Not even any rank.

  • @USN1985 it wasn't a pilot sitting there, it was the brake rider, enlisted sailor that pulls the handbrake whenever the move coordinator tells him to put the brakes on

  • Ha ha, this happened on my ship, the USS Nicholas....the fucking flight crash alarm woke me up.

  • Hmmm now ummm what are these tie down ropes for again?

  • super glue it down!

  • lmfao

  • Amen to FatKiwiBeerDrinker !! They are positioning the bird to tow into the hanger with the RAST system... and the CAM is hard-mounted to the boat so you don't see the rolling.

I rode the same thing with HSL-43 back in 1989... saved by ONE high-side chain.

Though I always DID like FFG's

  • sucks for that brakerider... thats not a carrier though

  • huH....idiots lol..... hope thats not an AUS ship lol

  • Ummmm.... chocks and chains????

  • In showing my age, my huey unit in Hawaii used to periodically do landings on the fan tail of a Navy oiler that was underway. And in every instant (over 30) of our skids touching the deck there were people attaching chains and securing the aircraft until we radioed for clearance to take off. I wonder if someone will have an involuntary allotment taken out to pay for those blades?

  • hmas hubba bubba

  • Thats why man made rachet straps

  • Well, I guess they're NOT going flying that night.

  • I see what was going on here. I spent 3 years on the USS Durham, 2 on the Lake Champlain and 1 years on the Carl Vinson. I was told by the HSL guys on the Champlain that you never go hard right rudder with a helo on deck, especialy while launching or recovering...lol

  • haha that guy ALLLMOST kept it from tippin over..... and that was just a joke.... for the ones that do know what happend surely it must of been the roll of the ship.. cuz its not that windy.. if they had strapped it down it wouldnt have tipped over

  • If you're not an HSL bubba you have no clue whats going on and therefore are unable to have an educated idea about this accident... Also that ACFT weighs 6.5 tons, wind is not going to blow it over rotors turning or not (which they aren't). And as every HSL Bubba knows, if somthings AFU then its the SHOE's fault (SHOE stands for: Stupidest Human On Earth)... you know who you are!!! and FFG's should all be scuttled, who makes a single shaft warship?

  • ok for opoman there, first off, youre wrong bro, its hsl 42 det 6,on the flight deck of the james e williams, ddg 95 or some shit

one of my AD's on my last cruise was on that boat

the OIC was the one who grabbed the nose and flir turret and tried to push it

dont know what yall down at the snakefarm are hearing!!

  • someone got their ass handed to them for that mess up.

  • hell yah! someone is losing a job over this hahaha

  • Allright for people who really dont know what is goin on, this is HSL-48 and I was there. The freakin crew and BM or QM or whoever started turning the boat while we were straightening it to get it in the hanger so uh yeah. It wasnt the wind or even the fact that we were turning the h-60. They turned the boat and believe me. The CO messed him up.

  • someones in the shit!! lol

  • lol the guys in the hawk would of shit there pants lol

  • i know i would have!

  • First off, this is NOT a carrier Flight Deck. This is the landing pad on the fantail of an FFG-7 Perry Class Frigate

Secondly it is not a high winds blowover. Look at the tags, yes they are blowing but this is not a high winds condition. from the looks the winds are about 20-30 knots which is normal.

The Crew was attempting to align the helo with the towtrack for pulling the helo into the hangar, this is what caused the twisting and the rollover. NOT the winds.

  • black hawk/seahawk blades currently cost $95,000.00 each (a piece)not to mention the cost of the airframe inspections that need to follow. chocks/chains were not installed

  • oh boy! what a cost! damn! 95K's EACH?! EACCCCH?! man what a cost!

  • man i'd be pissed!!!

  • Shit, I would have got my ass out of there straight away if the wind moved the helicopter a tiny bit, fuck that

  • you can almost imagine the guys on the deck thinkin oh shit oh shit XD

  • ROFL @ LOL

  • how? there goes millions of dollars? wtf

    u cock

  • it was only the blades u blind twat...they dont cost very much....probably about $450-500each...not much if u think about it..?

  • not 500 dollars, aircraft parts are fucking expensive. btw the wind was not only damage the the front rotor blades, it also damged the side. and maybe some instruments who knows.

  • Ummmm... price isn't quite close to what it actually costs. Looking at approximately $20,000-30,000 each, due to special material and parts. And as 41ACE had said... aircraft parts are expensive.

  • they put taxes to make them ...now they will put taxes to you to pay the damages as well.lolllllll

  • there goes millions dollars

  • blades u twat...blades!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • hahaha shity deal. atleast it didint go overboard!

  • Good ole HSL-42 Det 6. Actually it was the Airboss (OIC) who tried to push it back. Heavy rolls and an RSD malfunction.

  • the guy trying 2 stop a hwk from rolling over, lol

  • that was chuck norris!!!!^^

  • its some1 ass.....
