  • i am currently working as an CNA/GNA in healthcare field and i am having a bitch of a time trying to change over into billing. i've filled out numerous applications and with out any luck i dont what else to do. any advice!

  • @davise26 Going into billing can be a challenge because most places don't want to have to train someone. Billing can get very particular and experience speaks volume to a billing group when they are trying to get paid and slowing things down to train someone isn't the best option for them. Thusly, they choose someone with experience. I like training new people because it's a great opportunity for both parties. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

  • thank you for your video. it was very informative.

  • I really love your personaltiy, you seem so humble, and optimistic....

  • @blummerlo As long as you have the discipline to be a student you should be fine. Word of advice is to always stay in good communication with your teachers.

  • Thanks for the helpful information/video regarding coding jobs. My question to you would be - do you believe it would be somewhat simple for me to get a job as coder having 15+ years' experience as a transcriptionist and being 52 years of age? I do plan on taking the AHIMA courses the first of February, 2011, excited about the transition from transcription to coding and wanted to know what you thought - Ms. Johnson

  • @calvincdj Your age shouldn't stop you for doing anything but unfortunately your experience as a transcriptionist isn't going to make much of a difference if you're trying to become a coder. Kudos on signing up for the AHIMA courses and I hope they go well.

  • Many thank yous and hugs and kisses for your honesty. I was feeling so depressed and like a failure because I thought I was inadequate and seriously considered settling for general administrative work again! You have said things to me that I could not get my instructors or career counselors (ha!) to admit to. Thank you a million times and good bless that you were willing to post.

  • @FemaleMystified I am very happy that I was able to help you! It makes me feel good knowing the people get and take away ideas and inspiration from these videos! Good luck on your career! It's HIM week!

  • You know what you were talking about that was good!

  • Pink,

Are there many males entering the field? Also, what about work schedules? Are there jobs out there that allow you to work 4 straight 10 hour days with 3 off, or is it more of the traditional 8-5 schedule? thanks for your answers and your time.

  • @fromanotherstar Yes, there are men in the field. Not many but they are there. Schedules just depend on where you work. I have a very flexible schedule but I've also had some rigid schedules.

  • Great video! I am about to start at Santa Barbara City College to get my AS in HIT. Thank you for the insight on this issue. BTW, do you have RHIT certification?

  • @dustinblue79 Yes, I am an RHIT.

  • Thank you so much for this video! I loved your story and it will be something I will keep in mind.

  • well said! =)

  • Thank you!

  • Thanks for the advice. Gives me hope and inspiration to keep going in this field.

  • I am in my last five weeks in my HIT program, and in August I am going to take my RHIT certification.
