H.I.M. Finding A Coding Job....

i am currently working as an CNA/GNA in healthcare field and i am having a bitch of a time trying to change over into billing. i've filled out numerous applications and with out any luck i dont what else to do. any advice!

@davise26 Going into billing can be a challenge because most places don't want to have to train someone. Billing can get very particular and experience speaks volume to a billing group when they are trying to get paid and slowing things down to train someone isn't the best option for them. Thusly, they choose someone with experience. I like training new people because it's a great opportunity for both parties. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Thanks for the helpful information/video regarding coding jobs. My question to you would be - do you believe it would be somewhat simple for me to get a job as coder having 15+ years' experience as a transcriptionist and being 52 years of age? I do plan on taking the AHIMA courses the first of February, 2011, excited about the transition from transcription to coding and wanted to know what you thought - Ms. Johnson

@calvincdj Your age shouldn't stop you for doing anything but unfortunately your experience as a transcriptionist isn't going to make much of a difference if you're trying to become a coder. Kudos on signing up for the AHIMA courses and I hope they go well.

I was feeling so depressed and like a failure because I thought I was inadequate and seriously considered settling for general administrative work again! Are there many males entering the field? Also, what about work schedules? Are there jobs out there that allow you to work 4 straight 10 hour days with 3 off, or is it more of the traditional 8-5 schedule? thanks for your answers and your time.

@fromanotherstar Yes, there are men in the field. Not many but they are there. Schedules just depend on where you work. I have a very flexible schedule but I've also had some rigid schedules.
