Korea banned him as he had "dissed" his Korean citizenship only just before he was meant to serve in the mandatory army service. This guy has no respect.
I remember what he exactly did. Actually a man who didn't go into the army can't go out from korea without permission. He lied that he would come back to korea but he didn't. So the public officer who witnessed for him got fired. The goverment even suggested him public service job which is really easy. He was idol star being loved by every korean but he chose the wrong way. Yes, he was the ambassador for Korean marines. ironic

@genghiskwon73 Every last person on this planet has, at some point in their life, said one thing and then did the opposite; or promised to do something then went back on it...
This whole situation is just really weird and messed up to me on so many levels; I don't see why South Korea FORCES young men to join the army there; and I don't see why refusing to do so is considered so shameful.
@genghiskwon73 These aren't politicians we're talking about, these are people who sing and dance. Frankly they aren't responsible for the lives of millions or making laws and policies.
And the war argument doesn't have a leg to stand on - without the draft I'm sure there's plenty of voluntary soldiers, and plenty of other countries are currently at war or have been in recent years - United States included - and they didn't force people into the military. Stop trying to excuse the inexcusable.
@genghiskwon73 Are you really sitting here trying to condone forcibly taking two years from the lives of millions of men? I don't give a shit which army outnumbers which; that still doesn't make the draft right.
@genghiskwon73 You just aren't that bright, are you? Like I said, there's plenty of countries that are currently at war or were not that long ago, that didn't start drafting people. And you really just added to my point - that's exactly it - if it comes down to something where you're going to risk your life, it should be because you chose to, not because you were forced into it. And the hate for YSJ is absolute bullshit for that reason as well.
@genghiskwon73 You tell me, you're the one that jumped from YSJ to how you feel South Korea absolutely MUST have a draft, I'm not the one who brought that shit up. You might want to take your own advice. And you didn't want a dialogue, you're a bored fuck who couldn't get laid tonight and you're pissed so you came online to argue with someone and try to force your opinion on them. It's not working, and it will never work on me, so you might as well quit while you're behind.
@genghiskwon73 Oh, you're full of shit. You came into this with the intent to argue and ultimately shove your opinion down my throat; don't sit there and pretend you genuinely wanted an open dialogue. You're just pissy now because it didn't go how you expected and I'm not the pussy you'd thought I'd be. Not my fucking problem kiddo.
@genghiskwon73 So what? Plenty of things that are fucked up and not okay are condoned by large segments of various cultures and populations; that doesn't make them right. Some women who refuse female circumcision are ostracized from their communities; back in the day women who refused to submit to foot binding were ostracized and couldn't get married... a lot of people in Nazi Germany felt that Hitler singling out the Jews was okay....was it?
@h2jn Uneducated, probably, "they" or music idols normally quit school early.
Even for an under-educated person though, Steve Yoo is pretty damn intelligent. It's not easy to get the backing and support of someone as renowned as Mr. Chan.
If I went to Korea and lived there long enough to become a citizen I would do just that. I dont understand why they had to banish him from his home country. That, in my opinion, is very childish and arrogant of the people involved in banishing him. Koreans have a very strong sense of morality but that morality isnt the same with every other race. We can mostly agree that morality and traditions are different for everyone. Just like how our minds are never parallel to anyone else's in this world.
@kiggawoo I am from Korea and remember the day when people blocked Yu coming into Korea at the gate of the Incheon Airport. He was trying to explain why he made that decision but people were just so upset about him and didn't listen. it was a real big issue at that moment. Personally, I feel deeply sorry that he became a victim of corrupted politicians' decision. I don't know you know this, but a lot of politicians' sons somehow don't join the military, which is ridiculous.
@gracesungsil sorry dude, you're wrong. I am one of Steve's fan. and I wish he could be able to come back to Korea and show his great performance to many that are missing him. But he wasn't victim of corrupted politician's decision. Just because some politicians are doing it, it doesn't make it Okay for him to do it. And he was on the spot and he made public announcement that he will go to military as a Korean citizen. He even did the physical exam and everything. It was a big mistake.
@brazilianspiritzz It's so rare now that ppl actually believe everything the news says. Yes, I think I remember the news made a big deal out of what he said, and didn't even bother to ask why he chose US citizenship? Funny! It sounds exactly like what the news or some ppl wanted us to know.
@BraveBamboo not wat he said, but what he did and didn't. He was on TV doing the physical and claiming that every healthy korean men must go to army. And the law in Korea states that these behavior that harm the national interests should be banned. As other actors like Jang Hyuk, Han Jae Suk, and Song seung hun tried to ditch the duty got caught and went to military. But Yoo Seung Joon was already US citizen, and if he was allowed back on TV, then the military becomes joke to people.no personal
@brazilianspiritzz Right, we all know what's been on the tv and what's been emphasized through news. Now, do we know why he chose US citizenship over Korean military duty? Did anyone bother to ask him and listen? From what he claimed, it clearly showed he wasn't a bad guy. Why would it be a joke, if he came back to tv? By law, he didn't do anything wrong, and nobody knows why he changed his mind, if he did.
@brazilianspiritzz I read the interview of Yoo Seung Joon's father on magazine. His father claimed that it is his fault to push him to get citizen when Seung Joon was saying, in tears, he has to go to army as he made promise with his fan. His father said he and some paster that the family knew talked to him in to getting citizenship. But u do your research, even if exaggeration was made on news, he still made his decision. Ask him for reasons? it's not personal matter. and he made unwise choice
@kiggawoo But in a way, other men in Korea would have boned out too if they wanted to. Just because he was a celebrity doesn't mean he can escape out of it.
@blo0magic You mean banishing him! WAS IT A CRIME? Seriously, he was a green card holder. He had the full right to be a us citizen! Are u saying that every Korean males who don't go to the military get banished?
@BraveBamboo Green Card doesn't mean anything. It gives you the right as a person in U.S to do almost everything a citizen can do except voting. You are not a citizen. If you go to Korea with a green card, they still think of you as a Korean citizen. That is their law. So, you comply with their law. Are you saying that if every single Korean with a green card goes to Korea, they can dodge going to millitary? It would be pretty unfair if this person can avoid it just because he is so special.
@blo0magic Did u really read my comment? I SAID HE HAD THE FULL RIGHT TO BE US CITIZEN which means it was his choice to be us citizen or "remain" to be korean citizen. Well, if they choose to be us citizens then why should they go to korean millitary? I don't think choosing us citizen over korean is a crime. By the way, a green card doesn't give you privilege to do everything that a us citizen can (I am not talking about voting).
just so everyone knows about the whole "not wanting to go to mandatory military service thing" I will let everyone know all about it. Steve's family moved to the U.S. when he was 13. He had enough years to become a naturalized american citizen so he did it. This came into conflict with the fact that he was now exempt from military service. However, he DID NOT become an american citizen to AVOID the service. Nonetheless, there will always be speculation that he did do just that to avoid it...
thank u 4 uploading this clip, it was gd to see that his passion and talent in entertainment r still going on. and hope his great performance continues worldwide. keep going !!!
What I don't get it is why he was banned to go to Korea, wasn't he already an American citizen? So he had the option to go or not, and because he didn't he gets banned? Sometimes I don't get Korea...
@tenaciousdlancet cause he didn't want to join korean military so korea got mad lol, he probably doing better in china he very lucky jackie took him in but yoo was cool when he came out with " Gawi" a 90s smash hit
@satinbox ysj said, to Korea, that he want to appolozise, but only way of appolozise to Korean people, is to go to army. I wish he goes to army for 3years and become a korean singer again.
@sae05z He could've joined the army and just served his duty. He would've had it easy. I cannot imagine anyone giving him any hard times in the army. Only little more than 2 years. Stupid dude or pussy ass doesn't matter much now he is all done past history.
i just saw the movie....... i didnt even realize it was him until i saw the credits........ he looked so different with those long hair and makeup.... not to mention his mandarin was very fluent...... i didnt have my suspicions until i saw him shirtless when he was injured.... and then again with his ripped short arms grabbing a sword before he was about to die....
@satinbox 굉장. I felt no need to finish it. I am, after all, just another stereotypical youtuber with bad grammar skills and a terrible temper that I should learn how to control.
@KimSteppe I'm Korean myself and I love the Korean language. The reason why I said learn English at kangantafe (not you) was because he was saying (in Korean) "What a dumbass... What the hell is he saying?" to YSJ. First off, that was rude. Second off, Koreans have a bad image of YSJ because he tried to skip out on the army. They extradited him. He was a star. He was good. Just because he wouldn't serve his country, they made an example out of him. I think that's fucked up. Excuse my french. :(
@satinbox I see, apologies, I misunderstood terribly, and have caused you trouble. Yea, I heard about that, didn't really know the details, so thanks for the info. Hah, so... do you have something against the French? It's is an old phrase, but I think you should know that Englishman used that phrase to describe vulgar words(since they thought the French, themselves were vulgar)
@KimSteppe I used it as a figure of speech. I have nothing against any race or countries. But thanks for the info. I never knew the Englishmen looked down on the French like that. With that being said, society has really evolved and became more civilized! Thank goodness for that!
@satinbox yea, I just figured that since I've kinda wasted your time, I might as well tell you something that not everyone knows. You are welcome. Yes, thank goodness for civility! If only everyone had it :l

I wish Korean didn't force men to join the army. :S
satinbox 1 year ago 2
@sae05z He could've joined the army and just served his duty. He would've had it easy. I cannot imagine anyone giving him any hard times in the army. Only little more than 2 years. Stupid dude or pussy ass doesn't matter much now he is all done past history.

I didn't realize Yoo Seung Jun had such a heavy korean accent. Good luck to him, though. His career needs a boost again.

Do you know him personaly?

@kangantafe Learn English.

@satinbox 당신은 한국어를 배울
KimSteppe 1 year ago
@KimSteppe 한국어를 알거든요. Why don't you finish your sentence.
satinbox 1 year ago
@satinbox 굉장. I felt no need to finish it. I am, after all, just another stereotypical youtuber with bad grammar skills and a terrible temper that I should learn how to control.
KimSteppe 1 year ago
@KimSteppe Are you using Google translation? LOL And how does your bad temper apply to me???
satinbox 1 year ago
@satinbox yup, too obvious? xD
Well when you said "Learn English." I felt a bit infuriated, it was as if you were basically saying that the Korean language was inferior.
KimSteppe 1 year ago
@KimSteppe I'm Korean myself and I love the Korean language. The reason why I said learn English at kangantafe (not you) was because he was saying (in Korean) "What a dumbass... What the hell is he saying?" to YSJ. First off, that was rude. Second off, Koreans have a bad image of YSJ because he tried to skip out on the army. They extradited him. He was a star. He was good. Just because he wouldn't serve his country, they made an example out of him. I think that's fucked up. Excuse my french. :(
satinbox 1 year ago
@satinbox I see, apologies, I misunderstood terribly, and have caused you trouble. Yea, I heard about that, didn't really know the details, so thanks for the info. Hah, so... do you have something against the French? It's is an old phrase, but I think you should know that Englishman used that phrase to describe vulgar words(since they thought the French, themselves were vulgar)
KimSteppe 1 year ago
@KimSteppe I used it as a figure of speech. I have nothing against any race or countries. But thanks for the info. I never knew the Englishmen looked down on the French like that. With that being said, society has really evolved and became more civilized! Thank goodness for that!
satinbox 1 year ago
@satinbox yea, I just figured that since I've kinda wasted your time, I might as well tell you something that not everyone knows. You are welcome. Yes, thank goodness for civility! If only everyone had it :l
