The answer to which one is a better phone is not because of the camera. If i want a great camera, i will obviously buy a camera, not the Nokia N8. If i want a great smartphone, i buy the iPhone. Simple.
I just got one for 299 , the pink one ( yes, I'm straight ) cos it was the only colour available , and let me tell you, the camera is awesome but it's not the only great feature ... HDMI, Dolby Surround , USB on the go ( you just plug a pen or a disk to it ), offline navigation ... freaking incredible device! Iphone is smarter but has nowere to use the brains except internet navigation ! The new software Anna on the N8 made it way smoother, no lags or jumps ! Waiting for the Belle update !
For me i choose Nokia n8... Why? 'coz i already prove that this is the best quality regarding in video and camera.. Why don't you try, before you buy a phone or wasting money.

For every non-carlzeiss camera buy at least 2 Mp extra to the carlzeiss one to get the same quality. This is my experience.(example; 5MP with Carlzeiss = 8 MP Non-Carlzeiss camera in terms of output)
carlzeiss definitely makes a difference, no matter what device .Please check out the same 720p comparison video between N8 & E7 (same camera same processor But the difference is that E7 has no CarlZeiss lens)

Nokia uses 2 variations of many different cameras as 5MP in a E 72 & 5 MP in N95 but the quality in N series With Carl Zeis lenses is superior to the usual non Carl Zeis lenses on E or X series ,if the similar MP cameras is compared.
the clarity & the crystal like transparency of the lens, it self make camera get the best color for each of the pixel it will read.

@stubru16 this is video they're shooting. 720p resolution is not even 2megapixels. the mp is not deciding factor here. iphone looks bad even if u watch the video 240p (lowest quality in youtube) which is like 0,5mp
n8 has 16gb memory and a 32 gb memory card support a 12 mp camera tons of app for free which are good not scrap like iphone it shoots in hd better results then iphone4 it has web tv in hd u don't have to jailbreak it it has java and symbian os it has very good gaming experiance and has a good look

@donzae1 iphone apps are more elegant for exemple go to gameloft.com the biggest game producer for mobiles you'll find that in the games tab the first category iphone and ipod touch the second ipad (apple products) then the third hd smartphones in general lol means n8-GS2-blackberry...so you see iphone and apple products in general are more elegant and attention paid then all the others...

@ListenToTita erm actually n8 also has tons of apps too, plus it has angry birds etc for free. You can alsso play ff VI and chrono trigger on n8. Lag free even with some other apps running in the background. Those twitter and fb clients can also be downloaded =D

I have a nokia N8 and an Iphone 4(I found it at a club) The nokia is superior in camera/video, memory, and battery life ( as far as music playback goes), other than that the iphone is better in everything else. I only use my iphone as an ipod. yes the OS on the iphone is better, but that doesnt mean the nokia is hard to use. Every OS is easy to use, its just that some are easier. Iphone = Igay
Nokia might have the iPhone beat in camera quality....but the N8's OS is still years behind apple's. Camera quality does not determine a better phone.

I have to say in low lighting my iphone4 is total shit and very grainy, but once out side in natural day light its amazing, both pictures and video. So I'm not sure what happened to his camera?

@curseknight5 Megapixels allow the image to be made bigger without distortion. So a picture taken with a 12MP camera can be made bigger than a picture taken with a 1.3MP camera. A 1.3MP camera will not be as good as a 12MP camera, but not because of the megapixels.

It means to have 4 pieces of pizza or 40 pieces of pizza, and remember pizza pieces remain the same size. so 5mp =5pieces and 12mp=12pieces of pizza nicely packed into same sized box.

@66enic66 They are using the default definitions of the camera. No color corrections or sharpness increase. The names on the videos are correct, because you can see that the N8 has a wide angle shot due to it's 28 mm lens against the iPhone that has a normal 35mm lens.

I wonder why the colors and exposure suck so bad on the iPhone split-screen. My iPhone 4 has color depth similar to the N8's in this video. Also, the resolution on the iPhone 4's part SUCKS in this video, which is not what I'm used at all. I not saying it a "conspiracy", but something smells fishy here.
Either way, the N8's camera still wins because of the better shake resistance and depth of field.

Apple fans need to grow up and get over this. I think there might be be some grease on the iphone 4's lens, and you can see the finger at the left side (iphone owners should know the camera is very near to the edge), but give it up, the N8 has a better camera. Period.
Zeiss, 28mm equiv. focal, f/2.8. If these doesn't ring any bell to you, you'll never appreciate the N8 anyway. Just go away and download some new games from the app store or something..

I have a nokia N8 and an Iphone 4(I found it at a club) The nokia is superior in camera/video, memory, and battery life ( as far as music playback goes), other than that the iphone is better in everything else. I only use my iphone as an ipod. yes the OS on the iphone is better, but that doesnt mean the nokia is hard to use. Every OS is easy to use, its just that some are easier. Iphone = Igay

I have to say in low lighting my iphone4 is total shit and very grainy, but once out side in natural day light its amazing, both pictures and video. So I'm not sure what happened to his camera?

i highly enjoy the N8 HD video it looks amazing mostly thanks to that ziess lens which is a pro camera lens maker! however from other comparisons the audio sucks! but thats a small price to pay! I am an iphone 4 user and would rather have the n8 for making videos but rather the iphone for a phone which is its ultimate goal!

@curseknight5 Megapixels allow the image to be made bigger without distortion. So a picture taken with a 12MP camera can be made bigger than a picture taken with a 1.3MP camera. A 1.3MP camera will not be as good as a 12MP camera, but not because of the megapixels.

It means to have 4 pieces of pizza or 40 pieces of pizza, and remember pizza pieces remain the same size. so 5mp =5pieces and 12mp=12pieces of pizza nicely packed into same sized box.

*N8 - 12 megapixel 1/1.83″ sensor (the largest ever put in a cell phone), optical zoom (the only cell phone on earth w/ optical zoom), Carl Ziess optics
*iP4 - 5 megapixel, 1/3.2" sensor, digital zoom ONLY, generic/Omnivision optics
The N8 is enough to replace all point & shoot camera & some DSLR cameras.

You'd be a fool to not look at the spec first, before buying a piece of electronic. In this case, the spec tells why the N8's video looks better. @66enic66 They are using the default definitions of the camera. No color corrections or sharpness increase. The names on the videos are correct, because you can see that the N8 has a wide angle shot due to it's 28 mm lens against the iPhone that has a normal 35mm lens.

yeah the nokia has better video, but thats about all its got going for it.. and there wasnt really any point making a video considering the first thing u find out when u look up nokia is it has a 12mp camera.. i have the nokia n8 and wish id bought the i phone, the battery is crap, its an all around business phone while the iphone can be business and also have good apps etc. also whenever i take a photo with the flash on, 90% of the time it comes out hell shit with a big white ghost blur

I wonder why the colors and exposure suck so bad on the iPhone split-screen. My iPhone 4 has color depth similar to the N8's in this video. Also, the resolution on the iPhone 4's part SUCKS in this video, which is not what I'm used at all. I not saying it a "conspiracy", but something smells fishy here.
Either way, the N8's camera still wins because of the better shake resistance and depth of field.

The n8 breaks after 10 minutes and has to be replaced, I know I had 6 in 4 days.

Apple fans need to grow up and get over this. I think there might be be some grease on the iphone 4's lens, and you can see the finger at the left side (iphone owners should know the camera is very near to the edge), but give it up, the N8 has a better camera. Period.
Zeiss, 28mm equiv. focal, f/2.8. If these doesn't ring any bell to you, you'll never appreciate the N8 anyway. Just go away and download some new games from the app store or something..
