Hi.I remember this match very well as I had a better view than many as I was one of the policeman on duty that night.I was the 'copper' at 5.15 behind the goal as Exeter went 3-0 up and bent down to pick up the 'sponge' as they dropped it when taking off that player.
It was a great night and as I remember, there was very little trouble to deal with and we all went home feeling very proud of the guys at St James Park !!!
I was there, tea stand boy till i die, one of the best nights of my life! Went to school at st sidwells just round the corner, born 200 yards from the ground. I live in cambridge now, and wore my ECFC shirt round town after the play off. I LOVE ECFC!
I was there too as a kid. Went to leicester as well as Spurs.I disagree about the best team I think the team with Kellow and Beer was the best. This game was the best I've seen at the park.Peter Hatch was awsome.Pearson was not very good very often still what do you expect from an ex argyle player, Delve was forgiven as the argyle fans hated him so we loved him he was a card.
i was there,we had a very good home team in those days,i would say better than Terry Coopers side 1990's,Tony kellow made the difference top striker should have played at higher level,Steve Neville came along a bit later another good player,he went on to play for Shefield United i believe.....ECFC
Cheers for your comments bud, yeah great days!! & in my opinion the best team we have ever had. I only missed 2 away games that season. Kells was deadly & would have done better If he had stayed 'off the piss' (especially at Blackpool I heard!). I agree Stevie Nevs was legend. I always liked John Delve, good grafter & top-bloke! still see him around town. Enough bollix....
I was talking with my brother who still lives in heavitree the other day about great FA CUP goals do remember DAZZER ROWBOTTOM's looping header against Norwich City in the FA cup in the early 1990's final score 1-1 we should have beaten them. And if you were there do remember when we scored that goal a bloke threw a bog role on the pitch and the local bill marched him on and made him pick it up 12000 people pissing thenselves.
Hi, that's brilliant!! just had a look and can see you grab the sponge ha!!
Its a shame the quality is quite poor but it's all i could get.
Best wishes to you & thanks for your comment.

It is worth mentioning though that Newcastle were second division at the time. Taking nothing away though, what a result.
