  • :53-:55.....3 seconds of guitar that is well beyond human technical ability for thousands of years to come

  • uhm.... can anyone here tell me the chord progression again? I can't hear Jason underneath all the AWESOMENESS.. lol seriously, I only made out D G A G(?) F#m Bm Em Cm Abm Ebm Ddim Cm Cdim G ...... I'm at an internet cafe at the mall right now I can't test it out. If there's a guitar shop somewhere in this mall, they're about to have an ear wrenching afternoon if I didn't write down the right progression.

  • @makisunn I know this is super late but the progression is

Major: D-G-A-D (with the #5 and #4 thingy at the end)

    Minor: F#m-Bm-Em-Cm-Eb(major)

Diminished- F dim. pattern starting around 19th fret - Cminor- then the diminshed run at the end which is an Eb dim. pattern.

I do not properly know how to label dim. chords but since they repeat i went with notes that they hit revolving around E.

If my webcam did good video i could upload a tutorial.

  • The title should be changed to "Becker's tutorial on how to go into FUCKING WORLD DOMINATION MODE"

  • Comment removed

  • Commandment # 11: Thou shalt not even mention Herman Li's name in the comment section of a Jason Becker video.

  • ohhhhhhh, now I can play it, I just needed the chord progression, ya fuckin dick!!!

  • @Masterrese It's a guitar clinic, not a how to play session.

  • yea actually this is relativley easy

  • THERE'S NO ARGUMENT ABOUT WHO'S THE GREATEST GUITARISH IN THE WHOLE WORLD, YOU HATERS ARE IDIOTS!!

  • Becker's talent is illegal in 12 countries

  • Guaranteed to make you want to stop playing guitar in 1 minute or your money back.

  • @D1vid3By0

    I'm sorry, but I don't buy that....

If anything, this video has only inspired me to try harder.. Jason is one huge inspiration for anyone who knows his story..

  • composition theory + ability + practice + chilling with friedman = JB the annunaki guitar player.

  • That shitty guitarist doesn't even deserved to be named on this video. (hence i will not be using his/her name) Jason is without a doubt the best sweep picker in history and best guitarist IMO. Get well soon Jason.

  • @TensaZangetsu814 Not to mention, the nicest/coolest guy on the planet.

  • @halpyngwie correcto

  • うますぎて参考になんねーww

  • el mejor y ninguno podra =larlo.

  • Lol he seems to have a lot of fun explaining his awsome sweeps. He propably thinks: "you will never be able to play this haahaha!!"

  • It´s so unbelievable how he just plays it...he just plays it like: ok here we have that arpeggio, then this one, and all together it sounds like this...

and no other people are able to play it with that kind of controll.

    someday, I promise ;)

  • it would sound so much better with a cleaner tone

  • I think he just killed a few people.

  • jajajaja que risa.. jason lo toca como si fuera la cosa mas facil XD..

    estos arpeggios me llegan !

  • what an absurd.

  • For those who cant understand what Jason says (I couldnt in some parts),

    this is the chord progression:

    D|G|A|D , F#m|Bm|Em-Cm|Abm|Eb ,

    Ddim|Cm|Cdim|G.

Thats it,you got three sections as you can see, major, minor and diminished.

A great piece to learn..be sure to check my profile for new footage of becker.

  • Thanks man!!

  • @dvary89 fuck! thats it? thats fucken hard brah lol

  • Ha-ha! I meant thats it concept-wise.

    Becker follows those chords.

This is where things get interesting..

  • he's the best guitarrist. no doubts. malmsteen, petrucci, vai... all these guys would all be #2 today if jason becker wouldn't suffer this desease. and no one would disagree that these guys are all cool but not as skilled as jason becker!!!

  • I hate people who think that playing guitar is just about practice and try to be "better" than other guitarists. That sucks man!! Guitar is not a sport, it's not about competing, but sharing and enjoing. There are no 1st or 2nd, just you and your music. So STFU!!

  • no i don't shut the fuck up, personally i think he's the most amazing one and not only technically he's the best but also his suff is going somewhere and moves sth. what he does is more impressive to me than everything else and he's my personal #1 and that's btw what i mean with #1. it's a personal choice. if you think there is no #1 fine then go fuck yourself and celebrate that you have no #1 but i do fucker.

  • There is also skill but as you said it all depends on what you are trying to implement into the music world.

  • The funny thing is, there is practically nothing separating the best technical guitarists. How would you prove that Becker is the best? and in any case, no shredder has ever come close to the masterful composers they try to imitate. In fact, guitarists in general are rather poor musicians. So it's futile to argue over technique when the most important facet is languid at best.

  • ive got to agree with you because you didnt here them playing in huge bands when there 17, 18 and on and on and called guitar gods by thousends of people

  • Emh...excuse me.

I'm not gonna ask you anything about technique. Simply, due to my shitty audio and my bad english I don't get what he says next to Amaj (3rd chord); could someone post the progression here? Not with the sevenths or the fourths or whatever; simply write what he says.

    Thanks

  • He says "D major".

  • Perfectly stated.

  • God obviously doesnt exist

  • @Fendershred50 maybe god doesen't exist, or if he does, hes sure not really smart to leave him like he is!

  • @Fendershred50 god didn't cripple him, jason was so amazing and fast that he ripped a hole in the fabric and space and time and that crippled him

  • how long had he been playing for?

its a crime that he cant play anymore.

  • What amazes me here is he's the same age as me and I can't imagine being this good in 50 years O.o.

Bless you Jason and thank you for the wonderful songs :)

  • Jason, Nº 1

  • "...and then it goes to G major:

(insane ass-raper arpeggio with perfect right and left hand coordination)"

    LOL

    awesome skills^^

  • Comment removed

  • jaja he say it starts in Dmajor and then Gmajor just like he's "passing the chords" to this guy playing arpeggios is the same as we normal guitarists feel about strumming I wanto to play like him when I grow up

  • When you grow up? He's only like 17 in this video haha.

  • i know and i'm 21 but i mean i will never play like him none of us will too bad what happened to him i belive vai and malsteem did like black magic or something to fuck him up he is still makin music tough that's admirable i woulda say like kill me man if that shit happened to me he was the best sweep picker but also has a grat spirit and love 4 life

  • He was 20 actually, but what's the difference really?

  • ahahahahahah!

wtf herman li is sped up like crazy status!

dont even dare compare him to jason becker have you heard herman li live!

    he sounds like shit

your probaly just a little kid that likes guitar hero

  • @jasonslave123 lol good coment man lmao

  • hey dudes im learning this song, almost done, ill upload it soon

  • nah this was 89 so he was 19 or 20

  • what guitar is he using?

  • thats true, one time, i tried it and ended up just coming up with my own thing based on it. thats why i love this guy. if you cant play his stuff (you probably cant), then youll at least get something out of the patterns

  • "you probably cant" -thats where you are wrong

  • well its a bitch to nail some of his stuff, and a lot of guitarists cant. ive only seen a few pull this off half ass decently

  • ubershredder1989. shut up. stop being a conceited little bitch. nobody gives to shits about ur playing. especially on a jason becker video. keep the comments about the vid instead of urself.

p.s. no offense but ur not that good anyway.

  • dunno bout that mate. i dont like bragging, and i am by no means a great guitarist. but judging by your videos, your video views and comments, u aint got beef on me. little bitch.

  • that just shows that ur conceited anyway lol. statistically speaking by my rates and comments YOU dont have shit on ME. retard. now stop crying and listen to someone whos better than both of us combined. becker.

  • what you said makes no sense. RETARD.

  • Comment removed

  • i will have to deal with retards like you that dont know maths. my FBTS video... 25 000 views. Your best vide, something like 14000.. that taht it matters that much. i got shit big time on your sloppy herman li chops. deal wiv it

  • Comment removed

  • look at you mate. youre a bedroom guitarist. always will be a bedroom guitarist. cause ure just there with a shitty sweep picking technique and lame ass covers. youre like a messiah for the noobs thats why they give you high ratings. and yes there is a big difference betweem views and ratings. even tho i have 10 times less videos than you, i am way more known.

  • Comment removed

  • i dont give a fuck about you peers and you being satisfied with your playing. fair enough i may not be that good in comparison to many, but that coming from a sloppy kid like you is unacceptable. you dont need popularity so why do you bother posting your videos on youtube? what sort of para-guitar contests do you even take part and win in with dirt cheap skills of yours

  • that other account prolly isnt even ur friends. its blatantly one u made to watch ur own videos and post comments and get mor views ha ha ha. wtf wud u use ur friends account

  • Comment removed

  • dont put words in my mouth. music isnt a competition. but then dont tell me i am not good. if you didnt like my comment about becker thats your oppinion. but saying that i am not good, is a lame ass way to try to insult me, or a very ignorant oppinion. the sooner u accept that u need to practice way more to write comments to people that are better than you, the better for you. tons of noobs think herman li is clean. same with you.

  • u can take this whole thing off topic again, talking about shit like music isnt a competition bla bla. i say again for your dumbass, dont post comments like that to people who are better than you.

  • Comment removed

  • u hate herman li yet he is better than you. i dont think i am alot better i am certain. not that it ever mattered to me. but then u did write that dumb comment. u r just some 16 yr old punkfukin kid who needs to realise that there are players that cud whoop his ass and respect that fact. i know enough about you already to know what a punk you are. u are insecure and alsways reffering to yourself being 16. shut the fuck up, no one gives a fuck about your age.

  • hey buddy this doesnt say serrena lesson it says chord progression and unless your stupid he clearly mapped out the proggresion, besides this is just the opposite the notes arent obvious the technique is. frankly your logic is quite backwards

  • Sorry for being dumb but are the sweeps themselves just sweeping bar chords?

  • dont worry its not a dumb question at all, and im not a wiz with theory so if im wrong someone please correct me but im 90% sure your right. its just taking those notes in bar chords of a progression and playing them seperatly and this proggresion just starts with D, F#, then A and moves through the whole proggresion

  • Ah, thanks.

  • dont complain about me arguing when you constantly do yourself, and you were the first to write a rude personal message. shitforbrains. hopefully when you mature abit, youll realise what a fucking punk you were now.

  • There will always be someone who is better, so shut your fucking mouth, you little arrogant bastard. You have polluted this video enough.

  • Excellent

  • youll be thanking me when u grow up

  • wtf man your an idiot. He says right at the start that he's explaining the PROGRESSION, not the technique of how its played. He's not even trying to teach the technique of sweep picking. Thats not the lesson he's giving here moron. The lesson he's giving is on progressions, not technique. So in what way is it a bullshit lesson? He explains with 100% clarity what he set out to. The end.

  • OMFG

  • jesus, he is so excited in the beginning!

  • ye hes got a total boner in the begging

  • at the very beginning he's speaking so fuckin' fast! but not nearly as fast as his shred... God bless you, Jason, we all love you!

  • man, it's weird to see him so "alive" and upbeat, talking.

    I miss you Jason!

  • I wrote it down but not sure what he said on some of them

D major, G major, A major, D something (I'm not sure), F# minor, D minor, E minor, C minor Ab minor, Eb major, D something not sure, C minor, C diminish, G major

help me out if im wrong and on the arp. im not sure about

  • i dont know what he said, but its D maj judging by what he played

  • the first one is D maj, the 2nd was D dim

  • he is fast even to explain XD

  • A lot of what Jason does is play the same 3 notes in the scale over and over in octaves in his arpeggios (which he explains on Hot Licks). Simple when you think about it but he did so much amazing stuff with it. He pulls of arpeggios so effortlessly...

  • i've been watching this video over and over and over...all he really is doing is arpragiating the chords and their scales from the chords he's sayin out loud.......i think...@_o

even if that's the case, i don't know half the chords, and their scales and just that chord progression he was sayin is hard enough to memorize.

  • ah, now that i know the chord proggresions, it makes it sooo much easier to play. :D

hahahaha, i like jasons sense of humor on this one.

  • jijij

  • hhaahaha I love Jason Becker!! You gotta hand it to him in this, he is being quite a dick! hahaha walking through the chords progressions, I love it! hahahah And he's smirking the whole time!!

  • he was 16 or 17 on this video, i guess at that age, everyone's a dick xD.

gotta love this guy, such a great influence for all guitar players.

  • 0:53-0:56 LOL....uhhhh haha insanity

  • best guitar player......ever!!!!!

  • total command of the fret board, best guitarist in rock history

  • I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!! Jason was so amazing

  • becker is the best guitar player in the history is a master and is a fucking god

  • so its DMaj,GMaj,AMaj,Dmin,F#min,Bmin,

Emin,Cmin,Ab,EbMaj,Dmin,Cmin,CDim,EMaj. wow thats alot of arpeggios, just shows you how well his he crafted his songs

  • if you know diatonic theory its not so hard

so I IV V I iii vi ii vii<would be minor7b5 but i think he did a revers polarity making it a normal minor key thus explains why Cm turns in to Cdim and ii is now II

on the album its actually in Eb and not Dmajor

i had a hard time trying to play it with the freaking piano im like "wtf why am out of tune? wait a minute! lol"

the dimish parts get me :p

  • im just learning theory, its amazing how much theory there is, but it will make me a better musician. this just shows how brilliant jason becker was in crafting his songs.

  • oh yeah theory opens so many doors

improvising is so much easier all you need to work on really is your phrasing(thats what im doing) i find it boring if you just follow Natural major or minor progressions so the whole mode thing really opens up you song writing and when i say modes i dont mean soloing i mean composing its all part of diatonic, thats why i like Friedman and Becker

they did some really creative stuff hands down the best musicians our time could ever have

  • it does but its gonna take a while for me to learn theory lol, i wanna learn like all these diminished, augmented, super locrian modes i think major and minor is just way to overplayed, jeff loomis and chris broderick are probably the modern version of those two guitarist, friedman and becker are also two of my favorite guitar player

  • nah once you get down your triads its simple to morph scales and all that good stuff

if you have any questions you can message me about them i teach guitar and soon to be theory im actually thinking about buying a cammera and making some lessons for basic stuff im currently studying Marshall Harrison which in my opinion is like 12 steps above Shawn Lane(in technique) i hope to get some lessons from him i almost did in 2006 but school came along girl friend blah you know life lol

  • sweet, im taking jazz in my high school, and the teacher is showing us theory to help us understand what is going on with the music and how to improvise better

  • the dainty point you were trying to make never shocked my head (until you finally typed it out in yer last comment, and called me an idiot!) because: why would someone say "to be jason becker, all you need is hours"

fuck oaf good players need good hours, but every one is different and thinks different ..BUT ummm, that sure as cunt sounds nothing other than bloody common sense!

but if that greave12 guy meant it in the way you thought, then fair enough, hes worse then a fuckin twat!

  • sorry for calling you an idiot. You are not, but i was just getting frustrated because you wern't getting my point about greave 12's comment that's all.

  • To Greave12

If that's the case, how come Marty who practiced with him, played with him, shared the same passion with him, wrote songs with him still even though cannot match him technically. Not that I'm saying it's all about technique and marty is also a genius in his own right, but that was what you were referring to.

  • 1madaboutguitar

simply cause marty friedman stuck to the same way he plays throughout his career,(marty has a more sensible slower melodic soloing)and he prob wont change for anyone but himself....jason becker in the other hand, from what i've seen, explored many different diverse genres and stuff, and that wont let anyone let go of the guitar.. i dont know why Greave12 has like 4 thumbs down, he's exactly right

  • digitalldeth

Your comment bears no relevance to either mine or greave 12's comments.

The reason why greave 12 got 4 thums down is because he effectively in his statement takes all credit away from what Jason had achieved by saying that anyone can do that if they practice 10 -16 hours a day .

..Which is a load of crap! Theres loads of guiatrist who could practice 24 hrs a day and still in a lifetime get no where near Jasons level.

  • ummmmmm

fuck me dead, are you serious..i thought 10-16 hours a day is at a professional/talent-whizzing level...last week, ive started playing 4-6 hours max to brush up for music school, and out of one week ive gotten somewhere that i couldnt reach after 5 years of playing *(and believe me, im no begginer wanting to learn some gay canon rock, or how to sweep pick like buckethead just to get off on a 5 star rating on youtube)..maybe its just that some people got it in 'em

  • You stupid idiot, you are missing the point...It doesn't matter how hard you practice you can never reach the level of Jason Becker.

I'm not just talking about just technique, I'm talking about, creativity, feel , soul, songwriting ability, timing, spirituality, passion, personality...all the things that makes Jason so special that twat Greace 12 didn't take into consideration before he making his stupid Comment!

  • pssh fuckin dare call me a "stupid idiot".. wat greave12's comment says to me is that anybody could do all the TECHNICAL shit if they practised for 10+ hours

"And Jason was so good because of one thing.." ...That sentence struck me as "And Jason was so good TECHNICALLY because of one thing...." which is a no brainer bloody fuckin obvious FACT, ...NOT an opinion made you or anyone else..yeh get me? AND....

  • ...and the fact that at that time he was maybe 18 or 19 and had been playing since he was 5.

  • if not dead him..the best guitarist in this world..

  • Your English is so painfully bad... But, if what you were trying to say was that If he wasn't dead he'd be the best guitarist in the world, than that makes you even more of a dumbass... Jason is still alive, he just has ALS, an illness which has made him unable to move. Pretty much all he can do is move his eyes. He was diagnosed with it in 1989 and was given 3 to 5 years to live but with the help of God is still alive today. When it comes to Jason Becker, I have 0 tolerance of ignorance. lol

  • HAHA, dude give the guy a break.

  • hahah

  • the day will be 30 days of night if i can play solo like that..

  • There are no words to describe jason's ability...

  • yeah there is....its

    "dkjasghaksdjghlaksjhglaksdjg

    hklhlkajshdkgjhlaskjdhglkasj"

    ..............yep

  • If you got your technical knowledge in hand, then he explains it in a easy way. Just the chords played as arpeggios. Ya the arpeggios are very difficult, but its easy to figure out and practice on.

  • yeah i bet everybody in the audience has a notebook in there hand trying to write this shit down lol

  • ahahahahahahahahaah

  • if you knew your arpeggios you can pretty much pick it up when i first saw the video i was just writing down what key it starts it

and so on as he explains

i can play most of it but damn it is pretty tricky the diminish parts get me so bad

  • yeah i can play it just not that fast

  • damn i wish i could play that

  • Jason becker is the nicolo paganini of the guitar!!!!

  • he is smilling because he is explaining something that is impossible to play for 90% of guitarists.

  • LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i lold.

    <3 jason ^^

  • I love how he is so excited about it, and seems to talk as fast as he plays :) An amazing guitarist!

  • bigmonkeyman also sucks at typing....faggot.

  • what guitar is he playing

  • A Carvin guitar...not sure what the model is though.

  • DC-200

  • bigmonkeydouch, leave now.

  • his technique makes my jaw drop, its just like none other

  • Actually it WAS helpful.

Only the Eminor arpeggio for 22fret guitars, you have to play it in a different inversion of the chord, but if you have a 24 fret, you can play what he just played np.

  • minus the no problem part lol

  • lol that was very helpful

  • Yeah!

To explain is not far easy, rs

  • ...:O...
