@slayermik Yeah, it has 1/4" and XLR outputs, so you can use it with pretty much any powered speakers. You don't NEED a pre-amp, the board has built-in phantom power and good mix controls, so no use for one.

this board is garbage....it didnt even last me a year. Channels would lose signal, then come back on....it never made it out of my house thats how unreliable this thing was!!! Took if for repair 2 times in 6 months and was told not to move the mixer around too much! HUH? Whats the point of having a mixer if its not mobile? Anyway I went Mackie and never looked backie!
Just a question...I'm new to this stuff. My mixer now connected to my audio interface don't provide me with enough outputs to go to my speakers and pa system...will this be good enough?
hey, i have this mixer and i've trying to record with it through the usb cable on my mac pro.. i tried to use logic pro and garage band, it says it's connected but the sound doesn't come on the computer. what program should i use? how should i set this up?
@hugo110794 when i plug any mixer into my macbook for garageband, audio doesn't come out until i click on some different tracks to "wake it up" maybe. but it works for me. also check that little box that says "inputs". idk if it will solve ur problems but it always worked for me. i was stumped before i figured it out
@lostprophetsjosh YES! Just hook up to powered PA's or an amp/passive PA speakers...the USB board has a neat compresion knob! comes in handy, forsure!
Has anyone else had problems with the fx's unit? mine has terrible popping and hissing and a sound that reminds of bumping an old spring reverb unit. the noise gets so loud that I can't use the fx's at all'
I had my AKG headphone plug into the phones of the XENYX1622 FX (the one right under FX FootSW), but only the right side is working. Why is it? Did I missed somthing here? Pls help!
Does this mixer with the USB interface could be use for multitrack recording in my computer? or it doesn't sends each channel individually? I need it to record drums. If anyone knows a way to record each drum individually with this mixer though the included usb interface pls tell me. thanks!
@Vanielz the only way you can record each track, or in your case each drum, individually is by firewire. if you're just sending the recording from the mixer into your computer with a standard USB cable, you'll only record a stereo track of everything being sent from the mixer.
on top of that, mine also features broken sliders and inputs. really, it's my second one (the first one was sent back because it did not work so I got a "new" one, which at behringer means merely that it's from the factory, not necessarily that it's new) and again got trouble. really, it's worth spending a couple of extra bucks on a mixer made by developers (people who make mixers) rather than by a manifacturers like behringer (which merely produces very bad copies of what developers have made)
@3v45b5 mind didnt last 6 months. two trips to the repair, shop rca jacks fried, channels going out. Did I mention this never made it out of my house or ever used to record? Sold it to guitar center and 8 months later, its still there!! hahah suckers dont buy this mixer!!!
You could get a 1/4" jack to 3.5mm mini jack and go out of the control room out on the back of the mixer and into the 3.5mm microphone input on your computer, then you can assign the main mix to the control room out and whatever comes out of the main mix would also go out of the control out into your pc... Hope this has helped!!
hmm thats weird because i have a model that has a slot in the back to attach a usb 2.o cord, maybe its only a added future, i bought mine off ebay and wouldnt know..
Just thought I'd share, Im a drummer of 14 years, and this is my first time EVER with a mixing board. (and using all 10 XLR pre-amps and a few of the 1/4" ins to play everything through my comp and headphones.

i agree, but it is usualy only good for live situations and basic recording needs, you arent going to get the sound you would get from a 1000$ dollar mackie, or somthing, but its a great entry level and i use it often, i cant complain about the quaility but no matter what anyone does, you cant make a 300$ mixer sound like a 1000$ thats the only thing that sucks
hi how do the mixer to the computer. i would like a specific "recipe" cus otherwise i will not be able to do it :O lets face it behringers manuals suck
Behringer manuals are some of the best manuals around, they don't take foregranted that you've already used the kind of equipment you just bought. They're occasionally funny too, and they offer some (pretty obvious) examples and applications.
Read through the goddamn manual first before asking for help. If you can't understand such a simple document, maybe audio may not be for you...
Hey dickhead listen up; first of all: behringers manuals do suck (just like you) however the products are awesome Second: no i should not be in sound. maybe thats why i'm a guitarist and a drummer. so suck it up Third: you even write yourself ; that youre on you tube to learn. so maybe you should get the hell of Youtube if you cant say anything productive. To sum up. GO FUCK YOURSELF and swim around malta or something
Hey dipshit, this is from the Behringer website. I guess you're not smart enough to know how to read simple information:
"While many of our competitors force you to buy a separate card to connect to your computer, weve included superb USB connectivity with each and every XENYX 2442FX. No drivers to download, no complicated setup routines, just plug the included UCA200 2-input/2-output USB/Audio Interface into your Windows or Mac computer and start tracking!"
What that means is that when you connect your mixer to your PC you'll only get a Stereo Signal (2-Channel) from your Main Output on your mixer to your PC.
If you want separate channels for example of a drum mix, with a mic for bass drum, snare, 3 toms and 2 overheads (7 mics) you need to buy a multichannel soundcard, like M-Audio 1010LT, which has (analog) 8 inputs and 8 outpus.
Connect each channel's Direct Out to soundcard's inputs, and presto, separate channels (multitracking).
@Animatronica Let this be know folks, that this ONLY A POSSIBLE SOLUTION IF YOU HAVE WINDOWS XP, those that have Windows 7 will encounter MANY issues as the M-Audio 1010LT has not come out with 64 bit drivers.
Just wanted to make that clear before people go out and purchase unnecessary & expensive items.
@thekid22585 What the heck are you rambling about? I have no issues with 64 bit drivers for my M-Audio 1010LT. I've been using it on my Windows 7 64bit system for months now. Stop spreading misinformation on the internet. I have first hand, personal experience. Thank you.
@Animatronica Im sorry but you're sadly mistaken. If you truly have a windows 7 OS, you would know that the drivers for the 1010 LT are compatible, and M-Audio has had many users with issues stemming from the compatibility between the two. Obviously, you havent been aware of this & if you lookup throughout the internet, many like myself have had issues like this.
i agree. i used to be all behringer before i switched to mackie. i got behringer 1222 fx mixer when i first started out. when i got my mackie 1642-VLZ3, the manual was hard to read. but anyways there manuals are awesome. give you examples and real life situations on when your going to use certain things on the board. They also recommend products to use. i wish all manuals were written that way.
Um quick question. If i want to like record a 8 piece drum set i know it has enough inputs but i want to like put it onto my cpu via usb. I have like a moble pre converter thing but i don't think that matters. How do i use this to record and put it on my recording software?
You need to buy an interface, this allows audio signals to be processed by the computer... A good starting point for an 8 input interface would be 'Motu 8re' or similar...
The Xynyx is obviously a ripoff of the Onyx, but that Mackie line is outdated. This specific board is very versatile, and does offer performance to full upgradeability. The 1832&Quad2 series are quality mixers but doesn't give you the options like the 2442 does, pending on your project and I believe this is a 10 channel board. The Xynyx line is an ok buy on a budget for an unpowered mixer (have to run guitars through an amp). Also would recommend the Yamaha MG series.
I recently bought one of these desks, they do everything it says on the tin but all the features seem to work so well, allo this desk is extremely versitile allowing itself to be used in live sound and recording situations... 10/10
Your comments regarding the manufacture of Behringer products is unfair. Lots of stuff (including iPhones) are madein China. Behringer stuff may not be as high end as some Yamaha etc, but they are excellent value for money. I use (amongst others) a DDX3216 and an 03d - the DDX is the nicer mixer, to my ears at least. Both are well built and both have lasted years.
Chinese doesn't equal garbage. On a budget Behringer is good stuff.
Well I am glad that your products have lasted you that long, and seen good use. Although I wasn't referring to chinese products in general... Just Behringer. I know that some of their products are better than others (in terms of build quality), But I can tell you as a REPAIRman, the circuitry, is of pretty questionable quality.
But I stand by my comment... this is not a good desk, but probably fine for the beginner, just don't expect longevity.
Ok im looking to buuy this mixer i have a couple q's
1. does this have enough mic inputs for at least 8 drum mics?
2. can i run this into the zoom H2 handy recorder with an xlr cable?
3. IS THIS A GOOD MIXER, and lastly what does a mixer do for a guitarist and bassist and vocalist?????
Oh and lastly do i need powered speakers for recording or is there a way i can run this mixer into the zoom h2 handy recorder and use headphones or sumthing to listen to myslef????
As an ex-AV salesman, I am telling you, Behringer products are cheap imitations (this mixer is a rip-off of a Mackie ONYX), and are made with cheap chinese circuitry in most cases. I would suggest even the poorest of person to put something reasonable on lay-by even. When i was working nearly 20% of the behringer gear we sold was returned for repairs... bad bad bad
it depends on your budget and what you want to be able to do with it. If you just want a desk for live applications, the yamaha EMX series is great. It has a dual FX unit and is powered (id est. has an internal amplifier). They have a line of more studio based mixers too which i think are the MG series. So many choices... Soundcraft, Allen&Heath, TLAudio (pricy), all make great stuff too but once again... depends on your application. Feel free to msg me
oops i should learn to read hey. studio recording I see!
In that case Soundcraft, Allen & Heath, TLAudio are amazing, their prices range from fairly reasonable to riduclous! lol
Although the Yamaha EMX stuff is designed for live applications, I find it useful in my studio... but you can't send out each track individually (say back to your comp. for mixdown), only LR out. Not being someone who uses alot of outboard gear, it doesn't make a difference to me, I might as well have the powered desk.
i used to own a djx700 back when i used to be into djing... it said it had, like, 70 effects or somthing, but it only had 2o, it just skipped numbers.
I have it connected to my computer and im recording vocals and when the xenyx marks that the main mix its in "0" my computer says its too loud and clips and if i lower the line in volume the audio quality is bad. If i lower the behringer my computer says its okay but in who i trust to obtain the best quality?? (i think this mixer "knows" more about sound than my computers sound card so im confused)
I currently am using this specific soundboard for a play and I have my PC connected to the soundboard using some converter cables since I don't have the USB plug in, and when I play audio through the board it has too much bass and is really muffled, I have moved the dials around and stuff and it has not fixed anything, any suggestions on how to fix this?
the sound card that comes with your computer is not capable of processing audio very well..so that's why u hear a muffled sound..
if u have a drum kit or a guitar or anything plugged into your soundboard and u want the sound signal from your soundboard to go to your computer u need an external sound card or an Audio Interface(same thing) like the Behringer U-CONTROL UCA222 USB Audio Interface
this can process audio pretty well and will give u the sound u are looking for
hey, im thinking about buying my 1st mixer and have been researching them for a couple of months now, i want to connect it to my computer and work with Reason 4.0 and my Akai MPK49, any ideas which mixer will be good for me and compatable? thanks
if i were to use the Behringer USB interface and hook this sucker up to my computer, would the computer be able to recognize all the different tracks, or would it see everything thats plugged into the mixer as one track?
i do know, that depending where u buy these, they ship with the behringer uca200. this is an audio interface your DAW will recognise. Then u use RCA cables from the CD in/out to send the signal through the interface and into your computer. it will record the full signal (all mics) but only onto one track, u can upgrade to a better interface later though for more. ok, now i have a question, will this power passive PA speakers? i know about recording but not PA related stuff. Thanks in advance.
In PA applications unless a mixer is described as a powered mixer (which this isn't) the normal way is to take a line output from the board into a power amplifier and then into the speakers. Other option is to use self powered speakers that operate on line level inputs.
only i cant figure out why the RCA in isnt detecting the RCA out from the mixer
the RCA out from the mixer (or the only one i can find says INPUT/OUTPUT CD/Tape thats the only RCA cable place on the mixer so maybe its just the software. idk...
To answer some questions, to record using a board like this you can either use the direct outs if you have a four input recorder, or the subgroups.
If you have a four channel recorder, you must take your input channels and subgroup them to the correct groups (1-2, 3-4) and then pan them to left (1 or 3) or right (2 or 4). Mix the levels using the monitor selection he mentioned for each group so that they come out balanced in each channel.
im confused if you were to mic a drum set and you had 6 mics, you would plug them in but where is the main out? Can you plug this mixer right into a computer?
Being an ex owner of the Xenyx 2222fx (from yesterday) i would not recommend this mixer. Mine is now faulty, i regret not taking peoples opinions on behringer products. You'll get your use out of behringer for 5 months before having to send it off to be repaired, just save a up a few more quid and buy a better mixer. Infact today i bought the Tapco 260fx which not only looks better, but sounds better & is part of the mackie family - only £135 from retailer!!!!
crunchy blues... its meant to be like that. u can do wonders with this mixing desk. dont expect to be able to plug it in with cubase or something though and be able to record 16 tracks in cubase. it doesent work for me anyhow.

Um quick question. If i want to like record a 8 piece drum set i know it has enough inputs but i want to like put it onto my cpu via usb. I have like a moble pre converter thing but i don't think that matters. How do i use this to record and put it on my recording software?
withoutajem 2 years ago

@Cataclysm31
On a budget Behringer is good stuff.
p8ddy 2 years ago 10
Well I am glad that your products have lasted you that long, and seen good use. Although I wasn't referring to chinese products in general... Just Behringer. I know that some of their products are better than others (in terms of build quality), But I can tell you as a REPAIRman, the circuitry, is of pretty questionable quality.
But I stand by my comment... this is not a good desk, but probably fine for the beginner, just don't expect longevity.

No, this is not a good quality mixer.
As an ex-AV salesman, I am telling you, Behringer products are cheap imitations (this mixer is a rip-off of a Mackie ONYX), and are made with cheap chinese circuitry in most cases. I would suggest even the poorest of person to put something reasonable on lay-by even. When i was working nearly 20% of the behringer gear we sold was returned for repairs... bad bad bad

As a person who is new to studio recording, what would you recommend?
Syndor1017 2 years ago
it depends on your budget and what you want to be able to do with it. Feel free to msg me
Cataclysm31 2 years ago
oops i should learn to read hey. studio recording I see!

Q?
I have it connected to my computer and im recording vocals and when the xenyx marks that the main mix its in "0" my computer says its too loud and clips and if i lower the line in volume the audio quality is bad. If i lower the behringer my computer says its okay but in who i trust to obtain the best quality?? (i think this mixer "knows" more about sound than my computers sound card so im confused)

I currently am using this specific soundboard for a play and I have my PC connected to the soundboard using some converter cables since I don't have the USB plug in, and when I play audio through the board it has too much bass and is really muffled, I have moved the dials around and stuff and it has not fixed anything, any suggestions on how to fix this?
jonney934 2 years ago
the sound card that comes with your computer is not capable of processing audio very well..so that's why u hear a muffled sound..
if u have a drum kit or a guitar or anything plugged into your soundboard and u want the sound signal from your soundboard to go to your computer u need an external sound card or an Audio Interface(same thing) like the Behringer U-CONTROL UCA222 USB Audio Interface
this can process audio pretty well and will give u the sound u are looking for
get back if u need help

if i were to use the Behringer USB interface and hook this sucker up to my computer, would the computer be able to recognize all the different tracks, or would it see everything thats plugged into the mixer as one track?
TheJoe101 3 years ago
it would only see it as one track
cabeza27 3 years ago
its takes it in as 1 stero track,
you need a fire-wire card for all the channels like the mackie onyx 1660

i do know, that depending where u buy these, they ship with the behringer uca200. this is an audio interface your DAW will recognise.
AxeManAnt 3 years ago
In PA applications unless a mixer is described as a powered mixer (which this isn't) the normal way is to take a line output from the board into a power amplifier and then into the speakers. Other option is to use self powered speakers that operate on line level inputs.

its my first mixer.

im thinking of it....
where abouts is this usb plug
jamez123123 3 years ago
its a separate adapter thing that it comes with
with RCA in and out and a USB cable
only i cant figure out why the RCA in isnt detecting the RCA out from the mixer
the RCA out from the mixer (or the only one i can find says INPUT/OUTPUT CD/Tape thats the only RCA cable place on the mixer so maybe its just the software. idk...
mapleleafsrock13 3 years ago
To answer some questions, to record using a board like this you can either use the direct outs if you have a four input recorder, or the subgroups.
If you have a four channel recorder, you must take your input channels and subgroup them to the correct groups (1-2, 3-4) and then pan them to left (1 or 3) or right (2 or 4). Mix the levels using the monitor selection he mentioned for each group so that they come out balanced in each channel.
