  • In the states, at 15 years old, I would have given my whole summer job pay check to hear them in concert. The song, Georgy Girl, was 10 times better than the movie. We lost them, but I didn't forget them. Finally got broad band a couple of years ago and could hear and see them, for the first time. To me, they share share equally, with a couple of other groups/lead singers, as the very best. Listen to her voice soar, blend with and wrap around theirs, at the same time. She was a Doll too.

  • thank you for letting me know she was a very attractive lady

  • @carlton683 I believe she has just released two albums and sang in Australia around Christmas. Obviously still a busy lady.

  • Pleasant memories from a happy childhood in a simpler and much nicer era.

  • LOVELY to recheck this CLASSIC just before the dawning of 2012.

  • 16 people live in their own world....

  • Back when things were much more simple... in life.

  • this song is copied by pritam an Indian music composer in film "woh lamhe" song name "chal chale apne ghar"

  • @MultiLord7 Nothing new there MultiLord7. Pritam knows no other way.

  • Judith is a beautiful woman and a wonderful singer.

  • With all that was going on in 68, this group and others like it helped me keep my sanity. So soft and soothing. It did my soul a lot of good back then and it still does.

  • pure 60's.

  • The show closed with "The Carnival is Over" followed by "Georgie Girl" as an encore.

  • My grandparents used to love this song.. And now I do.

  • did this song close the show?

  • @cumomsandcureloms No, they closed it with "The Carnival Is Over" and then "Georgy Girl". I still have it on vinyl. At least, that's the way the music was positioned on my LP.

  • Thank you for uploading the Seekers videos. They bring back a flood of memories from when I first heard them. At the time I had an all expense paid vacation to SE Asia for a couple of years and the Seekers' music brought a little bit of home to an otherwise lonely time in my life.

  • this band shows you don't need a 'lot'--just a couple of guitars, a bass and wonderful voices--and good songs, of course. This is a special sound you don't hear anymore!! Sort of folk tinged.

  • This is my favourite song!!!

  • Judith still has the voice of an angel, i have seen her quite recently and she's never lost her voice.

  • Were you an adult in 1968, not a great year, riots shootings two leading figures killed. The music was good, black and white. The vast minority of colleges did not have a lot of blacks but Viet Nam did.

We agree but I remember a lot of problems Dan.

  • @dbart101 Just like this year then

  • @dbart101 I was 17 in 1968, so not an adult. Since I went to an integrated public high school on the South side of Chicago, I am aware of everything you mentioned, which is why I said we still had a ways to go and we still do. However, although I am not black, I would still call it a decent era for blacks. And yes, there were a lot of problems, but still a decent era.

  • @ChicagoSouthDan much better than today,forsure.

  • I think there are some "Negroes" who would not agree with you about the decent era.....She has some great pipes.

  • @dbart101 Well, this was 1968, not 1958. At that time, the civil rights movement had taken hold, whites-only establishments and drinking fountains were disappearing, etc. We still had a ways to go, as we still do, but I think you could call it a decent era as far as "Negroes" or African Americans were concerned. Of course, some religious conservatives would not call the free sex and drugs time of the late 60s a decent era, but I'm not a religious conservative.

  • One othe greatest things to come out of OZ!!!!!!...I love most of their Hits..a great composition of songs!!

  • I loved to listen to this group. I think they ended too soon. Wasn't this an Aussie group? They sure show and perform the spirit.

  • Another GREAT ONE!!! Thank you so much!!

  • 16 idiots do live in a world of their own!

  • i fell in love again

  • Love it when the band kicks end on the last verse! great song!

  • @Syzygy60 unfortunately the majority of the people believed the govt controlled media complex. abc, cbs, cnn, pbs, msnbc, wash post. ny times and on and on. the govt controlled media complex is still controlling the message supporting obummer.

  • also I only heard them on one speaker AM-Radio,remember that,I still listen to one speaker in my car :)

  • why did they split up ?

  • this song and I'll never gfind another you were very popular when my husband and I started dating. They have remained veryspecial songs to us ever since

  • i was too young at that time to realize how fabulous she is

  • i like this girl, and her confidence in her voice which is "flawless"

  • wow what a finish!!!

  • they went together like sunny days and good times:}

  • This sooooooooooooooooooo God.

  • she

  • he's fabulous how did I miss her?

  • For a thorough discussion of why this video is in black-and-white, go to the Seekers Farewell Concert, from which this song is excerpted. The complete concert is worth watching.

  • Still has a voice of an angel !! WOW !!

  • On 2nd thought, since the audience gives an acknowledgment applause shortly after they start the song, showing it must have been familiar to them. and since they DO have an orchestra backing them on the reprise at the end, which likely would not have happened n 1965, Either colour TV was still thought of by the BBC as just a "passing fad" in 1968 or the original color master is lost.

  • This looks like 1965. It's not in colour and Judith is still at her pre-fame weight, which she lost over the first year of the Seekers' success. Regardless, Judith has an amazing clear and powerful voice, Definitely one of the best singers of the 1960s and beyond.

  • @sleepypie Er, excuse me... Judith still at her pre-fame weight!!! This is 1968 when The seekers broke up. By this time, Judith had lost 16 Kilograms (or 2.5 stone). Although she is a bit top-heavy, her frame and arms are slim by now and she could wear mini-skirts with her good legs. No wonder she is on the skinny side these days with comments like that! And colour TV was still experimental in Britain till the early 1970s.

  • @moomba67 Thanks for clearing that up.I bit top heavy? :-)) Her maracas have always been beautiful.Colour tv cameras was used recording this concert.Master tape got deleted by the BBC and we ended up with this black and white copy.

  • @Proculledtwo I agree with you there. Judith had great 'maracas'!!

  • @saucyseeker You could not resist that pun, could you.

  • @sleepypie Sleepypie, it was July, '68, at the Talk Of The Town in London, their farewell performance before breaking up.

  • I can agree with her assessment of her sweet vibrato amd harmony. I loved their sound. They were all over the radio when I was a kid. It is great see these videos today.

  • lovin' it!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • im so glad i was born to remember such classic songs like this.thank you dad and mom.

  • acoustical guitars and cuff links. man. that is a time long gone now, for sure.

    Mo Rage

    the blog

  • simply fantastic!

  • why dont people make this kind of music anymore.

  • @thunderstruck1 Probably for one of two reasons: 1) Because recording companies and producers don't think there's a market for it; or, 2) They think the kids don't want anything but garbage. And kids don't know this, because all they're ever spoonfed now is high-tech junk passed off as music. And so the beat goes on . . . . unless they listen here.

  • Nice to revisit this decent song by a decent group sung in a decent era.

  • there is a very good african version of this song : Makoma Jesus for life

  • I used to sing this song as a child....I am delighted to hear this ballad once again..

It brings tears to my eyes, with fond memories. I used to sing this song to myself thinking that life would be ever so different when I was older..

    Love, Peace & Joy

    Bridgette

  • truly greats even today, how refreshing to see musicians not some crackhead with his undewear hanging out while 8 sluts bend over at the waist to shake their assets in the camera, and people wonder why i have lost all faith in the human race, thank heaven there are groups like the seekers

  • a true masterwork

  • Can we hear songs with good and melodious lyrics without vulgarity in video or the song

  • What a voice.

  • Great song.....great group!

  • Judith had a voice strait from God with the tones of an Angel. This was the pinnacle of good harmony and music.

  • Its damn difficult to be as incredible as the Seekers !! Awesome !!

  • Love this song!! I am so glad you took the time to post this wonderful music...brings back memories!! suzi

  • This has got to be one of the greatest songs ever written and sung by the best group ever....... what a sound....

  • Judith Durham must be the most under rated female singer of all time. In a lot of polls, she is hardly mentioned. To me she is the greatest female singer of all time. She dressed modestly without exposing thighs and cleavage which todays wannabees seem to rely on.

  • @1953jamesh Yes, she does not quite achieve the high spot in polls her stunning voice should. And she usually dressed covered up. But I remember in early 1965 when The Seekers had just released this very song on the British pop TV show 'Thank your Lucky Stars' , Judith wore a dress revealing huge cleavage. It was some distraction from this great song! Even in this video, her dress is straining under her large bust. Maybe she should have exploited it more in the way Katy Perry does.

  • @saucyseeker I remember that Seekers TV appearance on 'Thank your Lucky Stars' and yes, Judith was very buxom in a low cut neckline. You may have a point that she would be more famous if she displayed more of her impressive bosom but I am glad it was a rare exception. Leave the bared flesh to the talentless babes of today and focus on a beautiful voice.

  • @moomba67 I wished I'd seen the show. Judith had a great figure.

  • awesome song... helped me get a grade A in the school choir :)

  • Great song with Judith fantastic voice and the guys harmony!!!

  • Judith, you are one fit babe.I've loved you since I heard you as a kid in the 60's. Dear me, I put the I've wrong first time.

  • Judith, you are one fit babe.Iv''e loved you since I heard you as a kid in the 60's.

  • How could there possibly be 16 people who dislike this?? Probably folks who think that Rap is music!!

  • Judith was so tiny, but what a voice she had : )

  • I'm not kidding when I say that she looks like my mother 15 years ago..... Thin out the lips and eyebrows a bit and BAM! My mum.....

  • One quick comment from this old Texas Redneck. In my life I've loved all kinds of music. My 3 favorite female pop singers are Rhonstadt, Carr and Judith... clear powerful voices. I was 18 and wearing a uniform when his farewell concert was held. Thanks for the memories Proculled. She was definately the "girl next door". The one you brought home to Mom

  • they are adORABLE, like quintesential 60s folksong beatniks. reminds me of these cartoons I see everywhere now.

  • @HoneyDollXO You Don't know anything about music

  • @bummer54 Oh really? Well you dont know anything about what I was talking about "bummer"

  • Just wonderful!

  • Hey friends, read Hell's Angels (Hunter S. Thompson). Chapter 10.

  • i can see my 726,756 views but where is everyone elses?

  • Does Judith realizes she has so many men who are absolutely crazy for her? Her singing talent, her looks, her charm. I'm one of them. And I'm not even Australian.

  • @wilsonchay She obviously didn't realize men were crazy for her because she quit at the peak of her career because she wanted to get married so she went back to Australia to find a nice boy.

  • @garycooper1000 Not exactly. Judith fullfilled her 4 year contract with The Seekers and even gave 6 months notice in January 1968. And she had already met her future husband who was English!

  • @rikee2011 Her own website says this. But Judith wanted to spread her wings, and without any notion of the lasting grief to be suffered by millions of shocked Seekers fans worldwide, she plucked up courage to give 'the boys' six months' notice. She was to leave the group in July 1968 to return to Australia … possibly to resume a solo career and, she hoped, to find 'Mr Right'.

  • Lovely lady, and still has that wonderfull voice approaching 70!!!! X for JudyX

  • Such a great song and what a great group.

  • Its amazing how full their sound is. It is just the three instruments and the four voices. The orchestra is completely quiet until the reprise when Judith really belts it out.

  • Judith really lets go in this performance, I love it especially when they're wide open with the orchestra at the end!

  • So long Australia’s Seekers :-(

  • Fantastic song and great band!!!

  • She has a billion dollar smile and a priceless voice.... or is that a million dollar voice and a priceless smile... or the dimples...yes... uh... wait.... er... I like her.

  • I could never have been a band member, I just would have wanted to kiss that girl over and over...

  • @TheTherese3

Or, a la the Romantic poets Keats, Shelly, Byron, sit motionless, entranced in contemplation, or speechless as Ulysseus contemplating Penelope.

  • I am an Australian and I am proud to say that this band is one of the finest that this country has ever produced.

I used to play my mother's Seekers records repeatedly, when I was a child and I wished that I could see them perform. Unfortunately, that wasn't to be, as the group had long broken up.

Thankfully, they had a re-union tour in the 1990's and they were absoultely amazing performers, live.

Judith Durham has to have one of the finest voices in music, both in range and clarity.

  • I was Born this year,!!!!! 1968,,!!!

  • Absolutely... What a beautiful sweet angel, I would give anything to have lived back then and sang with her and the group. I did grow up with Morning town ride in the 70's and I love it and cherish that song to this day...

  • i remember singing this in school..its beautiful!!! its still so amazing as ever

  • i remember singing this in school..its beautiful!!!

  • Judith Durham would be amazing even without the kewpie doll looks.

  • Wonderful, unique sound. This is excellent music.

Sad that one must come here to listen to it because there is nothing like it on the airwaves. Most new music is offensive to my ears.

  • I had just graduated from Durham University UK with an engineering degree when the Seekers an Australian group, burst on the music scene in England with a refreshing folksy style. Morningtown Ride, I'll never find another you, The Carnival is over, played on the radio everyday when I met my girlfriend(now my wife). So we love this era and songs from the Seekers. What a pity they disappeared from the UK music scene to be replaced by the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, and a thousand Rock groups.

  • Judith Durham, the PERFECT TEN.

  • My first album was Sound of the Seekers and I still have it lol

  • what a wonderful life I ones could live up to in Australia. I still be fair dinkum. Thanks Australia, thanks SEEKERS.

  • very true vivicDC couldn't put it better

  • very true vivicDC couldn't put it beterr

  • When we wake up to the truth of life, inspired music like this will emerge and flourish again, and all the uninspired crap that people call "music" these days will fade away and be forgotten. Search "Truth Contest" in Google and click the 1st result, then open The Present and read what it says to learn the truth of life.

  • It's obvious that her singing is miles above the boys, BUT put them together and they are untouchable. I'm a yank and never got to see them, until lately on youtube. Have been a huge fan since I first heard them in the 60s. Loving it. Thanks so much for the post.

  • pure class

  • What was, if any, the relationship between The Seekers and The New Seekers?

  • @raponte1955 Yes. Keith Potger on the far left formed the New Seekers. He performed with them for the first few appearances then dropped out as they found chart success.

  • @moomba67 Thanks for the information! The New Seekers will be always remembered by the classic "I'd like to teach the world to sing", but hardly ever got close to The Seekers in any area!

  • We will be celebrating our 40th anniversary this May 29th and this will be our featured song.... we rented a Honeymoon cottage for two in the mountains ....

  • @moparmtn Congrats to you and your wife. The song conjures up beautiful images. Best wishes!

  • We would hear this song on an old transistor radio at dusk from radio Caroline.as the crimson sun descended slowly over the silhouetted hills.

A World of Our Own. - where is the child of summer I used to know........?

  • Was at primary school and during the summer holidays the family stayed in a small cottage on the dark slopes of the Cooley Mountains overlooking Carlingford Lough, County Louth, Ireland. A small whitewashed cottage with no electricity, only oil lamps for light, and a hob with blackened pots over an open fire for cooking. .

  • @grdeeoh..........Yes .

  • I don't particularly wish to deride today's 'artistes',but hell, the 60s/70s and even some of the 80s were superior when bringing us proper musical talent.Judith Durham always had such a beaming smile, made you just know she was having the time of her life, knowing she was bringing such joy to so many people.I was only 8 years old back when this concert was on,and probably wouldn't have been allowed to stay up to watch it,so it's a real treat to see it here.

  • Love love love The Seekers. Wonderful pop group.

  • @cooltooth112.......In more than 9 line's of comment you did not once mention their music ...You'r 55 ,know a whole bunch of stuff about Hendrix and money and like to Slag "The Seekers" for not making million's ....I'm 73 I have loved their music since forever .....You are one sad ,sorry ,sick piece of s.......

  • @cuteoldguy Judgmental aren't we?

  • A year ago Mrtoonetune said Judith had a smile that could melt bricks. That was a great comment and we shouldn't let it fade. Judith's smile certainly hasn't.

  • This song at this concert proves that a person can actually sing an entire song in overtones! I was only twelve when they did this concert, and after hearing all of their songs, I can't believe The Seekers only had a couple of hits in the USA. This group is one that I wish I could've seen in concert in 1968.

  • This was a real group - not like the commercially driven rubbish that's turned out these days

  • I love she true.

  • THE SEEKERS REUNITE TO JOIN ANDRÉ RIEU FOR HIS AUSTRALIAN/NEW ZEALAND TOUR

Fans of André Rieu will also be very excited to learn that Australia's own fab four, The Seekers, will be reforming to join André Rieu on stage for the full tour. They will be performing many of their biggest hits and most loved songs with the backing of the Johann Strauss Orchestra. In may 2011 FANTASTIC!!!!

  • Why did they say farewell in 1968?

  • Judith Durham's voice brings more than peace of mind.It makes you happy. :)

  • the voice of an angel. sterling shit.

  • Absolutley the best music!!

  • BRINGING BACK THE GOOD TIMES, THE SEEKERS. colindaleradiosutch

  • ahhh the seekers a flashback to trips down to my family in Norfolk with this on in the car or getting a walkman for my 8th birthday and all the Seekers tapes my mum and dad could find, happy times

  • I think if I could spend a month traveling around with any group of my choice in the prime of their careers, The Seekers would be that group.

  • I remember this song!

  • Life is such a good thing you would think listening to sounds of yore like this one here....

  • Simply breathtaking....God is among us and he give us this miracle!

  • @tgrobe and the war and all the pain destroyed it , but not in our heart!

  • @tgrobe Amen!

  • i think im in heaven.xxxx

  • Why the hell does nobody sing songs like this any more?, harmless lyrics, every word is understood with an amazing voice that would melt the coldest heart. Love you Judith.. Rock on !!!

  • @flymoair Amen to that!

  • @flymoair Concur there, this kind of music wakes up/opens ones mind to awareness/spirit of humankind. 96% of Today's music is more of a repellant type and condescending; no soul in it.

  • Comment removed

  • Danke schön! Gracias, amigo, por la buena música de la armonía para el mundo!!! Thanks, from México (B-p)!!!

  • Now that was and is music! What happened to it these days?

  • It's too bad that the kids today have never heard this kind of music, and only know the crap that is being played today....They have lived their whole lives, not knowing what good music really is.....It's a dang shame.

  • I remember seeing a short film in the 60s showing NASA space shots with the Seekers singing this song in the background. It was spellbinding and beautiful.

  • @willowwald2 What a wonderful thing to remember. I wish someone would upload that original clip.

  • They are Godly to me.

  • God was good to us........Having been blessed by growing up in the 50's & 60's and privileged to be alive with beautiful songs like this and done by beautiful singers like Judith and the Seekers..............life was good.

  • I am 55 and realize that was a lot of money then but not anywhere near what other artists made back then. Hendrix made $50,000 for one concert and the other two split the other 50,000, according to Noel Redding. Artists back then made tons of money.

  • I saw an interview of Judith and she said she left at this time because she wanted to get married and had never had time for a love life while performing. There were other reasons too, but she said when she left in 1968 she had $80,000 saved. I thought that seemed meager for all the work they did and all the music they recorded and records sold. I assumed they would be millionaires. They really couldn't stop working so I'm sure the boys were somewhat frightened. But they all did well.

  • Super Oldie, einfach genial....-;)

  • StevenDFenrich, I will not be dictated to by you and your ilk. If you wish to be part of the mongrel race, that, is your choice. I will not subscribe to this generation or culture as long as I live, and that, is my choice.

  • You profane this innocence-celebrating music, not by mentioning Lady Gaga or Amy Winehouse, but with your hatred of them or anyone.

  • where can i buy this video or cd? please tell me thankyou!

  • @johnnyboy195516

You can make it by yourself. Play clips then find them in Temporary, copy and convert to mpeg, use Nero and burn...

  • She is just beautiful!! Isn't she?! So wholesome & lovely & with the voice of an angel! The sound of The Seekers will definitely never be paralleled by any...It was so strong & distinctive, melodious & uplifting & spiritmoving! Aged 5 my fave ever band!

  • @BakkiBoo I think so many male admirers are in love with her. Who wouldn't be? She's so beautiful with an angelic voice. That's why so many Australians still go to her concert. Seekers Forever!!
