Nah, it's not a video effect, take note that he never shows the back of the coin. He's using what's called a "shell" which you can buy this trick at pretty much any magic shop. He simply palms the shell in his other hand with the pencil and "shuttles" it to his other hand on the pass. Pretty common coin trick.
