I have read the police reports. The officers still acted inappropriately as Mr. Meyer did not threaten Senator Kerry, himself, or others. Resisting arrest seems counterintuitive when there was not anything illegal to necessitate the arrest.
Senator Kerry (or the students) could have put an end to situation immediately, but he didn't, and he is a coward.
First amendment issues aside, it doesn't take a taser to restrain someone when there are that many police.

It is too bad that so many of the other students did not follow his lead and do not understand this. He dealt and spoke with the officer and the official in a way that they will listen and hear him. The other student yelling, accusing, insulting accomplishes nothing and gets doors close. It causes people like the officer and the official to not hear you.

I will say that the police could have handled themselves better, BUT Mr. Meyers, no matter what he says to the contrary, was there to cause a scene. He was asked several times to cease. No did the police use more force than necessary, possibly. Did Mr. Meyers' actions want the inverning of the police? Yes. Would they rather pepper spray or a gun? First of all, you have no understanding of what happened. The Forum was announced to be over, no more questions were to be asked, they were out of time. That's when he freaked out and pushed his way to a microphone and started yelling at Kerry that it was bullshit that he didn't get to ask his questions. He interupted the other student and Kerry's conversation. The police were going to escort him out then for being disruptive. But Kerry intervened and asked that he be allowed to stay.

There were rules and codes of campus conduct that he violated several times, so he lost his PRIVELEDGE to ask a question in the forum. He didn't have a RIGHT to ask one. He could have asked whatever he wanted, but there were also rules against not cursing or using vulgarities, and if you did, the mic would be cut and you'd be asked to leave. He wasn;t escorted out for expressing himself. Look it up. He was already told to leave for a number of reasons (NONE of them being any questions he asked - he hadn't asked anything yet - just yelling and shoving and cussing) before he got to the mic. They gave him a special chance to ask a single question before being escorted out and he totally abused it. Look it up.

His choices were stop resisting & be cuffed or continue resisting & be tased THEN cuffed. He had all of the information to make a decision & he CHOSE to ignore them. Yeah. Why the hell do you think he was already on the ground? He had been resisting for over a minute before he was taken to the ground. Like you said, "he attempted to stand." THAT IS AGAINST THE LAW. He had ALRADY aggressively refused to leave (at 2 different times) and now it's too late to walk out. If he would have wlaked out in the first place, NONE of that would have happened.

Did I say he was charged with them? I was giving two examples of what he COULD have been arrested for, and why he was under arrest.Police charged him with Disorderly Conduct(interfering with a school function) and Resisting Arrest.
And yes, if it's an unlawful arrest, there's a caselaw that states that from a year 1900 case, but this was a totally legal arrest so your point is invalid.

Meyer had disrupted the forum, yelling & cursing at Kerry & was being removed when Kerry asked that he be allowed to ask a question. NOT to allow him to ignore forum rules, which he did. ACCENT cut the mic & the Officers were simply removing him, as they were doing before honoring Kerry's request to allow Meyer to ask a question. Nothing wrong with the removal at all.

I have read the police reports. The officers still acted inappropriately as Mr. Meyer did not threaten Senator Kerry, himself, or others. Resisting arrest seems counterintuitive when there was not anything illegal to necessitate the arrest.
Senator Kerry (or the students) could have put an end to situation immediately, but he didn't, and he is a coward.
First amendment issues aside, it doesn't take a taser to restrain someone when there are that many police.
