@ClassicTVMan1981X No, my understanding is that GM's divisions were like this, cheapest to most expensive:
1. Chevrolet
2. Pontiac
3. Oldsmobile
4. Buick
5. Cadillac
But there wasn't a huge amount of difference between Chev and Pontiac, and Olds and Buick, respectively. Pontiacs were supposed to be "sporty." Olds, I think, was kind of the same in comparison to Buick. But it was really just minor styling differences for the most part; the engineering was more or less identical.
@ClassicTVMan1981X No, it was Chevy, Pontiac, Olds, Buick then Caddy. Back in the day, there was a huge difference in styling. Even engines and transmissions varied greatly.
The reason why the mention 43 dollars as the difference is because a Chrysler in the 70's was considered a luxury car where a Chevy was one of the low priced three. There was a tier system with auto names. Chevy, Ford, Plymouth and AMC were cheap low priced cars. Pontiac and Dodge were considered mid range. Olds, Merc and Chrysler were upper mid range lower luxury cars . Caddy, and Lincoln were the top of the heap. that's why 43 bucks was such a big deal here.
Back in the day, my father had one of these and I learned how to drive in it. Then I bought one, too, lol. BUT we had the A38 code cop car versions with the 360 cubic inch "high performance" (195 hp 295 torque) engine. He bought his straight from the state auction when it was 3 yrs old. I bought mine later from the 1st owner who bought it from the state auction when it was ~11 years old. They were both solid cars mechanically. Body-wise...not so much in the rust belt. I sure miss those days.
They put slant 6's in those? big car little engine

In the GM realm, Cadillac was usually top-tier, Chevrolet was usually middle-tier and Pontiac was typically low-tier.
Buick would be positioned midway between Caddy and Chevy, and Olds midway between Chevy and Poncho, correct?
