As a renowned culinary artist I must admit that I often watch this show with my jaw agape. The sheer culinary virtuosity and daring audacity displayed by these fine chefs are second to none. I have witnessed these visionary culinary craftsmen conjure dishes within an hour that most men could not possibly dream. What boldness! What creativity! I Bow to you Iron Chefs! Oh god!
The reason the japanese version is better than the american one is Chairman Kaga. It's the same reason as why they don't dub him when he's on screen: he's just so awesomely campy. No one can match that. Also, no matter how much I love Alton Brown, he doesn't have anyone to banter with.
i hate how the fact that the American version sucks...suddenly amounts to America turning things into nonsensical crap. if you don't like it...don't watch it. I have loads of respect for Japan and other countries...i don't see why there is need to post offensive comments about my country based off a tv show.
also why does the commentator always want a same cuisine battle (both iron chef and challenger are of the same style). Cross cuisine battles are a lot of fun to watch.
I caught one of these stingray when fishing last year... The best I could with it was grilled it. Watching this now really shows how much of a noob I am. lol
hahas me too!! me and my dad have the same expirence at japan too we went to a restraunt at osaka where they sell singray rice and we ask what these the waiter reply oh AE des ka me and my dad was like EH? hahas
I didn't like ICA that much. Their selection of guest judges aren't really that open-minded, as far as appreciating other cuisines that differ from what they're used to.
That doesn't make it fair, because those who prepare their dishes in any way other than American tends to lose. This by itself doesn't make ICA legitimate to me, and rather, it's just a glorification of American-style cooking (which isn't all bad, if they just made it fair). ICA also doesn't use too many "exotic" ingredients.
why doesn't inoue challenge the iron chefs himself? why send somebody else to fight for him? he's the one doing the talking, but he sends somebody else to back up his talk? and, to top it off, he backpeddles about what he said when he enters the kitchen. i guess his culture's sense of honor and pride hasn't rubbed off on him.
@MyFutureExWifeIs1 I guess because he doesnt feel the need to prove himself =/. Since he does think the iron chefs are below him BESIDE..in terms of seniority, hes one level above Sakai, so i guess another reason might be that he doesnt want to lower himself :S:S:S
I guess its the japanese culinary culture, Im not gonna judge it.
@jerrywu78 well he dint really say those things...but as usual the producers like to spice things up lol like they did with flay. Inoue was like "well, first of all actually I didn't say those things, the iron chefs are my buddies." thats believable cuz honorary ishinabe is one of his juniors. Also look at his face wen kaga-san summons the chefs, after saying "the chefs inoue believes are below him." xDD his face is like "..wtf? stop doing that!" xD
Why does the expert die horribly but the idiot who tries to get himself killed keep on doing stupid things? Don't tell me that nature doesn't have a sick twisted sense of humor.
i love this show!! this brings back alloth of memories i seen all of the episodes like 5 or so years ago, daimn i missed it, thx alloth for posting it up.
Michiba retired - I don't remember exactly when in the series. He was replaced by Nakamura, who didn't really last very long or do very well. Nakamura was then succeeded by Morimoto. :3
actually stingray is a very common thing in South East Asian cuisine. i come from malaysia and stingray curry as well as grilled stingray are very common dishes which you can find everywhere. grilled stingray is totally awesome! :D
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The Chairman here is so fuckin' gay it's ridiculous, and he's a blatant over actor!! He's annoying. The show is entertaining and Iron Chef America is a joke. Morimoto and Chen are the best. Bobby Flay is garbage. BTW, I have NEVER seen anyone cook a Stingray. This is going to be good!!
omg COMPLETELY agree, American chef is horrible and I think it is rly sad b/c Morimoto san is always critized for his use of "asian flavors" which is completely ridiculous since his cooking style is Japanese! And don't even get me started on the judging which is just crude and pathetic
LOL so true. The chairman on Iron Chef America isn't even the real nephew of the chairman on Iron chef. He isn't even "Asian", he's Filipino and Hawaiian.
Filipinos ARE Asians. Hawaiians are considered as Pacific Islander/Native Hawaiian. So... technically, Iron Chef America's "chairman" IS Asian; but you are correct, the original IC chairman is not related to ICA chairman. It's ICA's way of making ICA look legitimate to hardcore IC fans.
Thats because its narrated, thats what makes it Fun,easy to follow. I wonder how many people who gave you 22 thumbs up would like it if it Was ALL in Japanese. Im good at Japanese but wouldnt be able to catch all
@yomi1896 japan just has so much more detail innovation and things that give me goosebumps they are so much more real and yes they take it way serious. america can never be parralell with the amount of detail and time japan puts into the smallest things which make the best big picture
I think this series is waaaay better than Iron chef america. I wish this one would come back!

"let's call upon the iron chef WHOM inoue-san says are below himself"
whom is only the correct pronoun when it does NOT function as the subject of the sentence.
you don't say 'whom...are'
it should be who.
