Stop criticing the full version of the song. The version used in this is "Spaceman (The 5th Dimension)" - that's the name, it's only the sped up stuff. I can't believe you have so much hate just because some advert - which doesn't claim to advertise the song - used the 5th f-ing dimension version which was on one of the versions of the single anyway. You bought the single - was dissapponited - so play the flipping b-side, it's just the sped up
@BringItBackITV "Spaceman (The 5th Dimension)" isn't actually the proper version either. It sounds like it, but it never actually breaks into the famous bit, and is basically just 5 minutes of noodling that goes nowhere.
@MyNameIsChriddof The version i have isn't on the single it's on a compilation. It runs for two minutes actually but still has "spaceman, i always wanted...."
Jeans were not that practical in the the dance days of the '90s, but this was Levi's jeans getting into the scene, just as it had become mainstream. It's shit like this that killed off the dance scene.
I think you're right. The kid in the Freestyler video is called Marlo Snellman and he was about 15 in 1999/2000 when Freestyler came out, whereas this advert and the Babylon Zoo track date from 1996, making Marlo about 12 at that time. Cool hair, though.
Bangin' advert--saved me from MASSIVE boredom after i moved to Manchester from SF to be with my fiance, who was working 14 hour days. where are production values like this in the US? and edginess?
i remember people buying it complaining that it was nothing like the song on advert as in the actual song is like this and is only a tiny portion of it and rest is slow
speaking as an american.....crazy/effeminate or whatever maybe, but Jas Mann was a physically beautiful specimen of a man....would let him do me......:)
Anyway, to go with the other explanations, the main reason it got to number 1 was because if i remember correctly it had already reached number 1 through pre-orders before the song was even released. (Jan 96?- i haven't checked)
At the time even in mid-brit pop, there was a big dance/happy hardcore/fantazia style music scene that i presume were the main eager orderers of this track only to be disappointed by the actual slow heavy inde rock offering it actually was.
@ApocalypticSea Last time I checked Jordan/Katie Price had got further than me by flogging her tits and kids to anyone who would buy 'em. Dont mean she's any good. It was a shit song, and always will be.
The irony here being that the chick in the video is wearing jeans properly and looks a million times sexier than the chicks nowadays who wear jeans half off their ass
I miss the 90's the commercial rocks... when i was just a kid everyone just talk about it...and sing the song... there was another memorable levi's commerical try to search portisehead glory box levi's commercial. They don make like this one anymore. Levi's should bring back this kind of commercial. It makes you wonder and you enjoyed it. Don you guys agree?
I have a massive problem with this track: the advert played all the best bits of this song and everyone went mental over it. "When is this single coming out etc etc?" Then the single came out and it ended up being a wanky slowed down version of the advert version. No wonder Babylon Zoo died a quick death! Fail!!!!
@stroudiemusic i don't really agree with you, i like the rest of the song minus the fast parts! although i heard the song first, never saw the commercial until now
Babylon Zoo had some ultra-weirdo frontman far too much in love with himself, who cleverly sacked the guy responsible for producing the amazing production on the chipmunked version. It is that production of an essentially mediocre record that made this single so astonishing to listen to-for thirty seconds.
You'd think some one could remix the thing and make a decent full-length track out of it, but while many have tried, they either sound shit or are essentially a continuous loop.
@stroudiemusic there IS however a full version where the entire track sounds like this, i know because i had it at some point, i've just been looking for ages trying to find it again,
have you not seen the smirnoff ad? that is also a masterpiece. you cant deny that. i mean i hate adverts too.. but it is a good one.. and the ford ka advert "go find it". pure genius!

Well nenver 4get thios advert for my life the tune was the best i rushed out a brought it thinking the song was gonna drop wicked and wot a piece of shit the song was !!!!
@wuozebi: dat's right! any1 remember the huge embarassment on BBC's Top of the Pops when they had him on?!? started the song off just like the ad... then slowed it to normal speed... and THEN everyone realised how they'd been conned into buying the single... the rest of the song was C-R-A-P!!!
I loved this ad so much when I was 12. The song reminded me of a boy I liked. They called him Spaceman cause he had big eyes. They were gorgeous and so was he.
Lead singer was ex of the forgotten 'Sandkings", was very arrogant, this song only registered after Fatboy Slim Sped it up at the start and the end to be the song we all love! Live gigs by Babylon Zoo started with this track, then other mundane songs, to finish with- this track.
It was Jan 96, freezing cold, drinking at my mate's house watching out for the ad breaks - we both fancied her, bought the Levis...and the single. God, advertising worked!
I've often wondered the same. All I know is that this was remixed especially for Levi by someone who realised the chorus would be good if mixed up a bit. As far as I know, it was only that one part of the song that was mixed for the commercial though.
I don't know if you agree, but the original version, wasn't very good. It was the mixing of the chorus that made it sound so good.
The Song is from Babylon Zoo "Spaceman" I bieleve its from the Single named "The Boy with the X-Ray Eyes" but im not sure, maybe you found the title on a "best of the 90th" CD´s.
I remember when this advert came out I was still in high school.
