I'm glad I checked back here or I would have missed this too. I didn't get an email for your responses. I gardened on a small scale for two years. I've found out what onions work best here. And I did find out on my own tomatoes grow very well. I have more land now that I have my own house and am looking forward to starting my garden this year.

Excellent suggestion. I just finished reading the reviews and I'm ordering a copy off of Amazon. My only resource besides the web is the Ball Blue Book. I could use another source, particularly one that goes into all the reasons behind the methods of food preservation. I was able to get five more quarts of tomato juice and six pints of BBQ sauce today. The BBQ sauce is a little thin, but it's pretty tasty for my first attempt.

you are an inspiration man. I had a good garden when i harvested lettuce, tomatoes, pepper, cabbage, snaps and possibly 2 watermelons. keep a look out on my winter garden I'm starting. will post vid in mid august when i plant the collards.

Watch those beans closely. I think those things can grow two inches over night. One day they're not ready to pick and you look away and they're all ready! :-)
How do you know when melons are ready to pick?
