i like this video a lot and i'm really glad you are enjoying your cabin, i saw the wood stove pipe, looking forward to seeing your new wood stove... my cabin site is at least 300 yards from my creek so i'm still researching MHG options, plus i've moved out of state so i only get out there once a month now.
@dirtTdude Hi DT_Dude man! I hope all is going well for you my friend. I also don't spend all that much time at this cabin, but a periodic visit helps me to evaluate my building technics and where I might improve my designs in my next cabin project. I've added a handful of concepts into this cabin that I haven't shown yet,but should soon, that would add to the civility of an off-grid life style without the burden or complexity of specialized trades being needed for building such a thing.
@186282plus1 the thought of building another cabin has definitely crossed mind but Oregon is an incredibly crappy state. i've been here for 8 months and have not made one single friend yet. no, not homesteading, well, kinda... i'll do a video... oh, and please, call me Brian :)
@dirtTdude Brian, I'm sorry to hear about Oregon. Yea some places are just like that but I'm sure you're there for a reason, probably for work. It's definately more fun building a cabin with a friend so I hope that you find one, maybe you should post your rough location on your channel and see if any locals want to start a new cabin project. I'd be right in for the project if I lived within 100 miles.
@highcountrytimber , Yes it would be a more practical setup to add some 12v rechargeable batteries in parrallel with the generator for backup power, as well in doing so it would also help to stabilize the DC voltage at about 12-14 Volts DC.I tend to try and create simplicity in my designs where ever I can, though not always practical. That is a very good suggestion and should be implimented by anyone building one of these.
Wow!, my subscription certainly paid off. Out of all the various alternative dwellings i have sorted into playlists, your cabin is the one i like the most. Thankyou for the update and explanation of your hydro power.
Is it possible to see an update of inside the cabin as well please? If i ever get enough money to buy 10 - 20 acres of woodland then yours is a cabin i can aspire to.
@bilko1971 Have you checked yurts? at Yurts Direct they make some specially built yurts for rainy weathers, yet have a "authentic" look. And he arguments very well about other low quality yurts. I have the same project as you (i believe)! I'd like to buy 10-20 acres too, and put a yurt, a complete workshop and scrapyard, a small permaculture farm and maybe some community stuff.
Great Job! Love the project! Hope that you look for gold in that small creek!

Have you though about using a few smaller 12 volt batteries to have a small reserve of power.
