Total Control was designed to work with a separate sound card. This controller is discontinued in any case. Numark have several models replacing it, some models have sound cards built in.
@PatrickTheMan69 Officially discontinued by Numark December 2010. Some dealers may have stocks but once they sell through that's it. Shame really, I liked the Total Control.
@Gerrieboy11 Separate USB sound card. This controller is discontinued, Numark have released the Mixtrack Pro which does have a built in sound card. Video of that controller will follow soon.
@Gerrieboy11 Separate USB sound card. This controller is discontinued, Numark have released the Mixtrack Pro which does have a built in sound card. Video of that controller will follow soon.
@Gerrieboy11 The sound comes from a separate USB sound device which is plugged into the computer at the same time as the Total Control. So two USB items - the Total Control and the USB sound card. That's why Numark have discontinued the Total Control, the replacement models have the USB sound card built into the controller, so there's only one USB cable involved. On the new model - called the MixTrack Pro - the sound does come out of the controller directly.
i bought this numark total control and the soundcard numark i/0, it works on traktor LE BUT not with traktor PRO.... I downloaded the recent drivers from the Numark site and tsi files, and installed in traktor Pro, but still no results (Yes, i selected the midi settings, Yes, i selected internal mixer,...) I tried everything. My computer is running on windows 7.... is the soundcard and controller to old to run on windows 7 ? Please any helpfull reply is welcome !!! tanx
I'm having a problem with mine, its not letting me scratch, its like on "pitch" instead of scratch..how do i get it back to scratch? I'm using virtual DJ pro..u was able to scratch fine before but someone messed it up..help please!
@djshades69 Hi. This is the PCDJ channel, not Virtual DJ channel. Respectfully suggest you log onto the virtualdj forum and ask there. It will be a setting in Virutal DJ which needs changing.
@lnbabz The Total Control is now discontinued, replaced by the Numark Mixtrack. Difference with the Omni is that it has a sound card built in as well.
@Splurgeyourheadoff Does nobody read the past comments ? Answered this one already multiple times ... you need a twin channel ASIO sound card, the DJiO is an example of one. You could also use a Gigaport, Maya 44, M-Audio Delta etc etc.
The Total Control is just a controller - no sound output or input.
Therefore you need a separate sound card.
There are other more expensive controllers which have a sound card built in but there's nothing wrong with using a separate card.
So i have a normal laptop, is that okay? do i need a certain sound card? do i need a certain kid of mixer? can i get some specific names of the items i need?
@woahjustintime ... no ... you still need a sound card and mixer. The mixer faders on the controller just control your mixer in software. You still need a way to mix other audio sources and your microphone audio - easiesst way is via a conventional mixer.
So, if I was to buy this, (and I already own a laptop), I wouldn't need any additional software such as mixers and shit to be able to DJ? Or do you need something other than the total control thing to be able to DJ?
@valewaytechnology So, what would I be looking at? I mean I have a laptop, speakers, headphones, and then this thing? I mean like how much will the rest cost me?
can any one please help me? Im already panicking with my numark total control because the left deck is acting crazy with both Virtual Dj and Traktor Scratch Pro. Cue, Set Cue, Play, Bass Kill, and loop out of the left deck are acting crazy.
@guifm Change your USB cable for a new one. Try a different USB port. If that doesn't help it's likely you've got a faulty controller. (That's rare though, we've sold over 400 and only had one faulty unit.)
@valewaytechnology lol i dont think i have one unless its built into my mac. i have traktor le . my headphone input it broken but works when i have something plugged into it but when i plug into my djio still doesnt work sound just come thru the speakers. im brand new to this stuff.
I watched your video before making the decision to buy this, I did end up choosing it over the hercules controller, I was wondering if it is possible to use the Numark Stereo iO USB Sound Card with the controller to allow me to use my headphones. Thanks.
@DjAleksandarZ This is a controller, not a sound device. You don't connect headphones to it! Sound goes via a separate sound card to your normal mixer, or plug headphones into your sound card. The Numark DJiO sound card allows this.
@enjoi679 It never came with Virtual DJ in the first place. Numark have included a very cut down version of CUE or Traktor in the past but functionality in those LE versions is very limited.
If you're buying the controller it's because you're serious about DJ-ing properly, so don't skimp on the software. Get a full verision of whatever program you prefer.
This is an excellent video, unlike most of the crap I have found on here. You have great camera work and wonderful explanations. Thank you for not having an intro track and bass beats throughout and shakey cam effect to nonsense like that.
@flyingpoo This device is a controller, it doesn't have a sound card built in. For best results use an external sound card like the Numark DJiO or Maya 44. You can then take the audio output into a mixer as normal or direct to a PA system. Note if you want MIC voiceover then you have to use a mixer OR the DJiO soundcard, as it has a MIC input on the card where the Maya does not.
In short you can do it both ways. You'll still need the external sound card and the Numark DJiO is the best option.
Look, this is easy ... if you want to do things PROPERLY then buy a sound card with native ASIO drivers. Yes ASIO4ALL works but you're still using a budget sound chip to play back with. The native cards have higher quality output circuitry.
Nickhansen - this unit isn't "tiny" or "crap". We wouldn't be selling hundreds of them if it was. It is very portable though as it fits into most laptop carry bags. The Behringer gear isn't anywhere near as popular, sorry buddy but that's how it is.

This controller is absolutely crap for a beginner, for several reasons, one you have to buy a soundcard with it like the numark DJ i/o which is an extra $100 or so, and this unit is tiny anyway. My recomendation would be the BCD3000 from behringer. This unit includes a sound card and is far closer to an original mixer, it also allows turntables or cdjs to be plugged in to allow it to become a 4 deck mixer. BCD3000 is a far better investment for new DJays

No you can't connect headphones. This is just a controller, not a sound device. The mixer controls just control the on-screen mixer.
No firmware updates needed. Plug in, tell your DJ software you have a Numark Total Control (should be on a menu) and it will work. No drivers needed.
If it still doesn't work contact Numark technical support or the dealer you bought it from.
