  • Rain against the window on a night when the love of your life at the time is not there is like waking up to no air.

  • Hurricane Irene made me think of this beautiful song by the talented Ann Peebles.

  • Wwwhhoooaaaaa!!! This moves the heart and soul. MMmmm MMmmm MMMmm.

  • This woman turned 23 the day I was born; I guess that must be a trip. She's got more talent thatn me that's for damn sure.

  • This is a great version...but I've always thought Graham Central Station's version was the best.

  • I know this hard to believe but ive actually met her before

  • I love this Song....Anne owns it...Its great.

  • This song is amazing. The beat is incredible. It makes people want to sway to the rhythm. Genius! :D

  • dont know why people prefering seals version to this!!, its like prefering alien ant farms beat it over michael jacksons version!!! lol...fuck the horns!!!!!

  • This IS the best version, no doubt at all and l feel sorry for those 10 that can't FEEL it too!!!

  • I like Seal's version of one of my favorite songs - stronger horns, but Ann's hard to beat.

And nothing like a Hammond organ.

  • Oh yes....me too sweet lady

  • Yes"

  • I like the way she says "I can't stand the rain" ;3

  • CLASSIC!!!

  • I Love It. Is a Wonder!!!!

  • Missy Elliot & Timbaland, sampled this song, they fired it up, but Missy didn't change too much of the Chorus.

  • It rains........ This has always been one of my most favorite Hi Records songs, but this is the first time ever that I feel exactly like what Ann Peebles sings about......

  • Ann Peebles is a LEGEND and I so love this song.

    What a voice.

    Love her to bits.

  • a toon is a toon. no talent. no brains. all singin and all dancin. kinda patheic.

  • @boils2 I don't understand what you mean.........you mean today's music? Best Wishes, P

  • John Lennon actually called this the "The best song ever."

  • coming up in an era of so many great soul singers, ann is one among a large handful (like esther phillips, for just one other example) forgotten in the shuffle of years since. thanks to all those who posted ann peebles work on youtube - she was amazing!

  • Haha I never knew Missy sampled this.

    Oldschool is that good!

  • I was so used to Tina Turner's version. I knew it was a co!ver, but this was the first time that I decided to listen to the original. I really like this! I usually don't like music from the seventies but this is really good!

  • Why are the lyrics posted here so horribly incorrect??

  • @HellinMyEyes I wondered too.......Ann is still active......'specially in Memphis..as far as I know.........Ever heard Lowell George

of Little Feat do this one? Grand Central Station did one . It is different, but I love it 2 just such a great song.

    Thanks, Miss Ann.........

  • Cool steppaz kut!

  • That unusual string plucking sound really is a bit unnerving, but when the horns kick in with Ann's voice is when the song really soars.

  • before a performance she did of this song at the troubador john lennon pinned a kotex to his forehead.

    xD

  • Classic...

  • Anahein might ducks love those reed horns .The ductless glands endocrine system and bodily equilibrium. Manly Hall aslo does nice few chapters on sight the most excellent of sight the pineal gland Oh those Mighty Ductless Glands

  • Although I love the Missy version, the Ann Peebles original is soul personified. Missy doesn't sing on her track, she's rapping. Ann is singing. I think they both are great in their individual ways.

  • this tune is the bomb..!

  • happt birthday, ann :)

  • Great version of this song! Sing it Ann! The female Al Greeen?

  • @taterdickens lol I had never thought about that, but yeah- definitely a female Al Green!

  • @taterdickens Al Green and Ann Peebles were both on the HI records label that's why it sounds so much alike;)

  • @evertanneke They were on the same label.

Many times they used the same musicians/producers

Willie Mitchell was a great producer.

  • @taterdickens Without the hot grits! haha

  • Best damn version of this song PERIOD!

  • Missy owes her career to those 5 words lol

  • Song really have the All Green sound...

  • This song just makes you feel good.

  • Just Think If she Never chose to come out wit this Song..or sAID SOMETHIN ELSE in the chorus Line

  • You should see Ann sing Feel Like Breaking Someone's Home on the dvd Only the Strong Survive. She still has those strong vocals. She has a real talent and doesn't need to hide behind a synthesizer like some so many of today's so-called singers (Britney Spears as well as others).

  • When we was together everything was so bad now that were parted there's just one thing I can't stand

  • RAW!

  • How can you even try to remake this song?! It's f****n EPICCC. Ann Peebles voice is so raw and emotive. It touches my soul every time I hear her.

  • @Mikizzle15 Tina's version was an awesome version, too

  • @bubbajolee Yeah, but Ann's version is still the best tho. She captures all the emotions.

  • Missy???

  • @RealityHurts923 Sampled it !

  • produced by the late, great, Willie Mitchell........

  • This is good but Tina's version is my favorite.

  • This is cool...but I prefer Seal's version...especially his intro!

You can feel the rain in his voice!!!!

  • Best version. Who is she?

  • @ewalk4959 the person that wrote the song...

  • @ewalk4959: This is the great Ann Peebles. It's her song. She was a huge in the '70's with her Memphis soul. This song is written by her and her husband Don Bryant and a guy named Bernie Miller. I'm the proud owner of the original ablum on vinyl. She's awesome. Check out more of her songs of those days.

  • Absolute best version of this song! The music overtakes you :)

  • @lindajc23: Because it's original her song! Check out the unplugged version that's around and hear that voice! :)

  • HOTT!

  • wow

  • STILL LOVE THIS VERSION... people shouldn't compare artist against artist...( just like it or not). know what I mean?

  • Only comment is after listening to Seal's version, the mix left the kickass horns in the background. But she is it!

  • this is....the bomb

  • this is the BOMB

  • 5 people can't feel that sweet, sweet rain.....

  • Damn..let's not get nasty..can't we just agree to disagree? Ann's is better though..kick back to old school..when people still had souls!

  • I remember this one back in the day. Probably 1971 (not gonna cheat and look it up). I was a sophomore at Santa Barbara High.

  • if you don't like this song your dead inside

  • ann is the best---nobody can beat her at this song

  • Apparently, John Lennon really liked this song.

  • this song is the shit!!!

  • this is actually a really difficult song to sing.

  • i don't care what u old cats say , but timbaland killed this shit...

    and missy went hard....

i think that their version is better ...( but anyway without this song the other wouldn't existed....)

  • @PaPo0Se546 you may like that version but it does not have any of the emotion or more importantly the SOUL of this, far superior version

  • This woman and Tina Turner sound exaclty alike in this song. Very powerful song and to compare her to Missy Elliot is an insult to Ann Peebles.....you got to be out of your mind.

  • Makes me want to twist the cap off a bottle!!!

  • reminds me of nottin hill in london....at some poin they played this song while people where gettin wild

  • best version ever;)

  • @bewianin It's the sign of a great song that so many people wanted to try their hand at an interpretation. Good music knows no bounds!

  • Yes this version is Funky! Next to the one by Graham Central Station it's the best. If you haven't heard that version please listen to it! Not the live ones already on you tube, but from the CD/LP .( The one with The Jam, Water, Your Love etc. ) Then comment.

  • Fantastic! Thank you!

  • i love that missy got her chours from this song!!!!!! at first i thought Erica Baydu sung missy's chorus from the song

  • Sing Ann!!

  • wow, I only heard Tina's version. I think I like this a lil better! Hard one though, both talented women!!!

  • I absolutely love the organ on this song...I think thats the icing on the cake.

  • @Littlewater Try out Albert King's I can't stand the rain - lots of Hammond.

  • love it

  • what a classic

    superb

  • I LOVE THIS !!!!!!!!

  • Part of the lyrics are missing....?

  • Is this Hi Records? Sounds like Al Green.

  • it does, doesn't it

    and Syl Johnson too

but it was in fact on London Records

    stil sounds great

  • @titostacos -Yes. Same band and producer's as Rev Green.

  • @Buckeyecat2002 But on a different label?

  • I love this song but never knew who the artist was until now!

  • @jillybeans58 you said it!

  • 5 folks didn't get the memo that THIS is soul music.

  • It does not get any better than this song. It moves me.

  • Tina did it...Missy "Misdemeanor" did it...Ann did it like it was supposed to be done...:)

  • @jillybeans58 Thank you!

  • @Chicago10281 / i was only 4 so i will trust you on this one.. google lied to me hahahaha

  • @hottanger 1973

  • This is great! I always thought this was a man for some reason when I was a very small boy. It's obviously sung by a woman.

  • I like this and Missy did a great job sampling this. Fuck what you heard.

  • it still make me happy like when i was a girl
