@whipchops how many great songs do they have? I'm trying to like them, but the furthest I get is, 'that sounds cool', but not endearing, or daaamnnn/wow. But yet when I hear The Drums, and even better seeing them play, I'm like wow/daaaammnnn, yeeeaaahhh!!! Endearing. The Strokes not so much, though they remind me of the Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum.
@ToolsnFire the drums are pretty cool. I've always liked new wave punkish 80's bands. the drums are a decent imitation of that sound. Are you 43 like youre profile says? it doesn't suprise me that you like that sound. even if you werent, its still a great sound. I love bands and music from every decade. I'm 28. I have 3 brothers who grew up in the 80's. two of them are really rapped up in the 80's sound and one of them hears music like i do. Anyway listen the the stokes "is this it" album
@Jordo1900 yeah you're right of course...you ever love a band so much that you feel like they're your bestfriends even though you've never met them...? That's how I feel about The Strokes.
jules' voice was so amazing and he sounds great live! but i just recently saw him and all those cigs are ruining his beautiful voice :( I STILL LOVE HIM THOUGH
what a genius composition of melody and harmony. i hope this starts a genre of a more highly synchronized style of music. everything is easy but dynamic at the same time.
@aubiefan24 I started picking up on the way they do that, pun intended, and actually I pretty much only play with the bridge pickup these days. I love how mellow it sounds at times.
What I meant was like in a humbucker. It's just a single coil that's much more sensitive, so you'll get all sorts of sounds just not possible with humbuckers.
Both Nick and Alberts guitars have single coil pickups. The only way you get that classic ringing tone with with single coils and a tube amp. Single coils are a lot noisier than your average humbuckers or preamped pickups, because there is no noise cancellation between the reverberating sides of a humbucker. As of the second album, the only pedals nick and albert used where a Jekyll and Hyde and a volume boost for solos.
@shreadhead96 i remember reading about this somewhere on the internet. he does use some kindof pedal. but overdrive with the tone on ur guitar down (rythem pickup) gets a pretty similar sound. as for the previous comment, yeah, besides their guitars they both use 212 fender hot rod devilles and they both use the first jekyll and hyde overdrive/distortion pedal
@shreadhead96 no i'm possitive he is also using a pedal. i remember reading it somewhere. u can try googleling it. i just dont know what the pedal is. i was just recomending a similar sound.
well he uses a fender deville which has a good tone to begin with it just sounds like a little overdrive....i heard from the sites that they both use the U2 jakel&hyde but who really knows, everyone trys to sell shit now....most likely the tone is a result from the Deville and a $3000 guitar and what ever drive pedal sounds best in the room they are playing in...Alberts tone in 100% his bad ass handmade fender that costs more then my car and a generic drive pedal maybe even the drive on the amp
You know why i love this band so much...the lead guitar is second to the rythem guitar but with out the lead the songs would sound totally different...its a weird little quirk. I might get some hate mail for this comment but I'd say the two players in this band do what Keef invented better then keef himself
@zinestrokes hello, ZineStrokes, I'm from the future. Don't hold your breath, the new album ain't anything special. We'll have to love the memories we have of this wonderful band, while new players will find new ways to capture our hearts.
well if your gonna get technical about it... the guitar lick shares most of the notes in almost the same order. The strokes version of the riff servers the song a lot better then the GnR one, but we are talking same fret and same string for 70 % of the lick, only difference is the gnr version does not use the 15th fret on the b sting it uses the 14th on the little E and that is where your hearing the different tone
Anyone notice that the whole band is wearing almost the exact same outfits they wore when they performed "take it or leave it" on letterman (except Julian)?
What guitar does Nick play? Doesn't look like his Riviera.
