The woman dancing was Nat's first wife, Nadine Robinson. I think she was a few years older than him. They split in 1948-- three years after this recording in 1945.
No. But Diana Krall's version is at least equal. It's a direct tribute, even to the same head sheet but taking advantage of the longer play time. Oscar Moore may have been a slightly more inventive guitar player than Russell Malone, but not by much.
@JazzScene ....sorry..John is a great guitarist (much thanks to his dad I'm sure) but he has no business singing..he cannot carry a tune and the sound of his voice is, frankly, annoying..but kudos to him for carrying the American Songbook torch forward..
just great

Sorry, but Diana Krall doesn't hold a candle to Nat King Cole! But then again, very few people do!

Nat Cole was a great singer and pianist and I'm a fan. But I find myself muttering... "gotta make a living" after watching this particular vid.

Check John Pizzarelli's version in his album "P.S. Mr. Cole". The piano player, Ray Kennedy, plays it with an incredible swing, don't miss out.
There are 3 or 4 songs in that CD that KILL.
While you're at it, check other materials by John Pizzarelli. He's the king!
